it's just one uncle. I have on my dad's side 2 uncles and on my mom's side 2 other uncles and 1 aunt. I was never all that close to the uncles on my mom's side anyway. the only part of my mom's family I ever saw much of growing up was

Everybody knows of someone who died from a heroin overdose, sure, but I'd imagine a lot of people don't personally know anyone who died from a heroin overdose, and I'd be one of them. I also don't personally know anyone who died from alzheimer's. That's just how the odds play out sometimes.

My brother's probably on his way to ODing heroin, so I guess there's that.

So many people from my high school have died from heroin overdoses. Some of my close friends have been addicted to it, fortunately none of the people who died were really close friends of mine. That shits an epidemic back in my hometown.

I only know one dude that did heroine, one of my friends as a teenager. As far as I know he stopped using but he ended up having 3 kids with different women by the time he was 18 and now proudly works at a Kroger store

There was a town meeting a while back that addressed those that were affected by heroin addicts. The meeting had to be rescheduled because almost 200 more people showed up that couldn't fit in the original venue.

well the type of people who go to town meetings are the type of people who are outgoing and social. I'm not those things. so I mostly only know my family. and my family sticks to meth and alcohol

I loosely know people who have lost loved ones to heroin but no one I know directly.

I got offered it once but declined. I'm smarter than that.

I've known several people who did it including my dad (who also regularly tried to push it on me but i always refused) but off the top of my head i can't think of anyone who actually od'd. One of my dads druggie exes committed suicide in jail but that's about it.

I have two. One was a close friend who fell down the slippery slope after legally being prescribed opiates from a doctor. The other is my cousin who was only 18, but his step mom was an alcoholic bad influence and his dad ignored his cries for help while bending over backwards for his drunk wife and her bastard kid, so apparently he turned to drugs.

It's a better reason than some. I have a friend who became addicted to heroin and ruined his life because he was "bored, and everyone else was doing it."

I did know an addict though, technically. I actually had no clue he was a meth addict (he had a job, for instance) and only found out years later when I ran into him somewhere after he found Jesus and got clean and was telling everybody his story.

I'm not justifying it. He made a series of bad choices and it killed him. But I do find offense when people assume that heroin users are all waste of life junkies who deserve what's coming to them. They need help, not judgement and criminal charges. My brother used for a while, has been clean two years because his support is way stronger than my cousin's was. Crap friends might convince you to try it, but bad family life will push you there and keep you there.

Did you know that poppy plants and heroin is made under the supervision of the us government in places they occupy in the middle east?

No joke. It's pretty common knowledge. You might even say it's a safer environment for growers with troops around.

Now idk if it's enough to account for the huge heroin epidemic, but they aren't doing a fucking thing about it in the actual places it comes from, and really it's all $$$ exchanging hands when people OD. Government prob sees it as a good thing.

The DEA literally sends teams to Afghanistan to deal with the industry. Is there some multi-layer US involvement to use of the industry to their advantage? Likely. Is the US blatantly encouraging and promoting the industry? No.

Nope. But depends on how you define "to know" someone. Like, if I shook hands with some random dude at a party once, and never saw him again in my life, and that dude eventually ended up dying from a heroin OD, then sure, it's plausible (but still not 100%).

Other than that, I can't name someone I know, or know, that even does heroin, let alone to die from it (to my knowledge).

Yeah, that's the closest I come other than having met people who claim to have gone to school with somebody who either OD'd or later OD'd. Granted, sooner or later I'll probably meet somebody who dies from it.
