Their complaint about Beetlejuice was they expected it to be The Money Pit with ghosts--the reason for their Ghostbusters knock-off comparisons. It was not that.
.

It's like when Ebert (Chicago Sun-Times) and Canby (New York Times) snubbed Carpenter's The Thing (1982) for being a terrible, gore-fest remake of Hawkes' The Thing from Another World (1951). What made it terrible for them was their expectations for the movie. Carpenter's movie was a new adaptation of Campbell's "Who Goes There" (1938) novella, not a remake of Hawkes' earlier adaptation of Campbell's novella.

https://www.metacritic.com/movie/the-thing-1982/critic-reviews/

tl;dr: They were disliking a sandwich for not being a hotdog.
.

Btw, anyone pointing to the burn-away opening title as proof that The Thing is a remake didn't realize that it was Universal, the film's distributor, not Carpenter, who made that title.

It's like saying you beat a game but you watched a let's play.
However, if your intent is to "go through a game" to clear it from your backlog, watching a let's play start-to-finish is alternative, but legitimate, way to do it.

I once did this with a friend for Limbo; I played and they watched. When they asked "What happens if you [...]?", I'd hand the controller to them, but they wouldn't take it.

[ Btw, we played with my copy of the game on his console, so he received the achievements for it. ]

You can go to Bitterblack Isle in NG at Lv.3 after you reactivate the Riftstone in the Encampment and meet Olra (at night, on the far end of the long pier in Cassardis).

Phantasy Star IV (GEN/MD) was $100 USD when it first released. That was 30 years ago.

A physical copy of Pier Solar (2010 for GEN/MD) direct from the developer was $50. After the studio had to restructure a few years ago, the price was $140 (Standard Edition) to $170 (Limited Edition).
.

The real price needed for a studio and its publisher to recover the costs of a complete AAA release--one shot, no DLC--can easily be $80 adjusted for inflation. Higher release prices might mean having to do what many gamers had to do in the 1990s: Being more careful over which games you choose to buy. It's also why renting games became such a popular option then, especially after Nintendo's attempts to make rentals of their games illegal failed.

[ I'm not saying that I like higher release prices, but any other option available is not sustainable. ]

Wrong.
He intended to make a sequel and hired somebody to write a lowbudget sequel before the first movie even was released, in case it flopped.

Wait a second... Lucas has been known to use "historical revision" for Star Wars... what he said happened does not always match what happened. But *that* sequel was a "Plan B." He plainly said in a 1980 interview what his "Plan A" was from the start [beginning in winter, 1973].

LUCAS: "Star Wars was originally titled 'Episode Four: A New Hope.' I felt people wouldn't take it seriously if it looked too much like a serial, so 'Star Wars' is the beginning of a movie trilogy."

In 1999, Gary Kurtz, the producer for the first two films, talked about the darker *original* story plan for all nine films before the screenplays were rewritten with character family connections.
