Why would the corporation Google be any more trustworthy with this than any other ISP?

Most notably, in the areas where Google Fiber has been operating, other ISP's have provided similar speeds for similar costs, exposing the reality that they've been deliberately throttling their speeds so they can charge more for minor incremental upgrades, rather than for any technical reasons. Google's certainly done their share of shady business, but as far as their track record as an ISP goes, they've generally been less eager to rip consumers off than others, which is unfortunately pretty rare and commendable in the telecom world. That's a field where collusion to avoid legitimate competition is the norm, and Google bucked that trend.

Mostly, though, it's hard to be any less trustworthy than the major ISP's.

Not realistically. They could probably bring it to every larger city, but rural internet users would end up suffering horribly as other ISP's gouged them in an effort to cover the costs of legitimately competing with Google. Bringing Google Fiber to the entire country would be a massive undertaking, even for Google.

Doesn't matter. The Internet probably is a better place to look, but that means it's also a better place to look for just plain friends, with none of this weird plan that sounds like some kind of larping cult.

"Cock" is pretty much just used as slang for willies* (and chickens and stuff, obviously), whereas "c***" is used as a particularly vicious insult (in the US, at least. It's quite a bit more mild in the UK) about as often as it's used as slang for vahoohas, and even when it is used as a slang term, it tends to be more aggressively vulgar than alternatives. That'd be my guess.

*Newfoundlanders will use "me ol' cock" as a term of endearment, so that statement isn't entirely true, but that's a fairly niche use that I wouldn't expect most people to know of. Newfies are weird.

The internet is going to end because Net Neutrality has only existed since 2014 out of 23 years.

When it was brought into effect to combat the emerging practice of ISP's throttling popular and/or competing sites for the sake of being able to charge more for them. The regulations were introduced to prevent a problem from developing, and that problem's only going to come back with a vengeance if they're repealed.

Bear in mind that while the Internet has been around since the early 90's, its use has shifted dramatically in the last decade. Facebook only really became a thing in 2005 or so, with the whole idea of social media exploding from there. Youtube in 2006. Netflix only began streaming in 2007. The Internet has become a very different place, particularly with the amount of video content that gets streamed, and that evolution has turned it into a competitor for cable. It's only natural that the telecom companies that run both Internet and cable would restrict Internet to keep the dying cash cow that is cable alive.

Really, I'd be a lot more okay with not having net neutrality if Internet wasn't run by cable companies. That's an extremely obvious conflict of interests, and one of the biggest driving forces for the sort of shenanigans net neutrality is meant to prevent. Break the telecom companies up so that ISP's are actually motivated to compete with cable companies, and a whole lot of those problems would go away.

I find it hard to call Protestants real Christians. Most denominations tend to really dumb down everything about the Faith. The way I see it, the real Christians are the Catholics and Orthodoxy. Of course, I'm biased.

All denominations are Christians by definition.

By an inadequate secular definition, sure. Look, if I call myself a Christian but then refuse to acknowledge parts of the Bible, can I still call myself a Christian? What if I refuse to acknowledge the Bible altogether? At some point, you can't truthfully call yourself a Christian. I know where I and the Catholic Church draw the line. Where do you?

The problem with the bible is that it's 2000+ years old. Anything that's that old is going to be out of touch with the realities of modern society, because today's society is very, very different from that of the ancient Middle East. That means it has to be interpreted through a modern lens, and some of that interpretation is going to end up concluding that parts of it are irrelevant, or would even be harmful to follow now. It's important to keep in mind the distinction between what's actually irrelevant/harmful and what's just hard to follow (most of the points Jesus made were meant to be difficult or contrary to how people would like to think), but I don't think disregarding bits after proper consideration should disqualify somebody from saying they're following Jesus.

Basically, it's a matter of emphasizing the spirit of the bible over the letter of it. Catholicism's insistence on following the letter at the expense of ignoring what Jesus was actually suggesting to improve the world was one of the bases for the Reformation, and later for Vatican II. Theological study exists because it's not practical to interpret ancient religious texts literally, so people need to consider and discuss what they mean and how to apply them to everyday life.

For the record, I do think there are a whole lot of people who call themselves Christians but ignore Christ's central teachings, and they definitely shouldn't be considered Christians. Opposing charity, for example, is flagrantly at odds with Christianity. Saying that somebody isn't Christian because they interpret relatively minor parts of the bible differently from you, though, is definitely not right.

People with their dicks out in public tend to be doing so for flashing purposes, so having one's dick out is treated under that assumption. It's entirely different from boobs, which are serving an obvious practical function when being used to breastfeed.

Oh noes! Not tits! Won't somebody think of the children, having to see breasts be used for their intended and wholly non-sexual purpose! How will they ever recover?

Yeah, not so much. Any kid that ends up scarred for life by seeing a woman breastfeeding needs to have their parents arrested for child abuse, because they have not been raised healthily.

"I feel bad about how sexualized breasts have become" said women who wear push up bras and low cut tops to get men to pay attention to them

The onus for sexualization lies primarily on the ones finding the thing sexually attractive. Women don't make boobs sexual (ignoring non-heterosexual interactions for the sake of simplicity). Men make boobs sexual by being attracted to them, which women then take into account when dressing to attract men. On the flip side, men don't make fitness sexual. Women make fitness sexual by being attracted to it, which then prompts men to work out to attract women.

It's also worth noting that something can be both sexual and non-sexual. Most people would agree that the lips are an integral part of sex, yet most people would also agree that it's not usually particularly difficult to avoid getting aroused by lips when not being kissed by them. Similarly, breasts can be integrated into sex, and be dressed up in a sexually attractive fashion, but also serve a perfectly non-sexual function in everyday life. It's really not a hard distinction to make.

OK sure, but it's perfectly reasonable for someone else who could claim she died from disease or old age, and not include her in their stats.

And given that a dictatorial regime that was slaughtering its populace isn't likely to have kept detailed statistics on causes of death, it does get hard to tell who's actually right.

you do realize that after the libs let bill 'the rapist' clinton off for lying under oath, molesting interns, and getting his dick sucked in the oval office, this means absolutely nothing right?

It's almost like social attitudes toward sexual harassment and assault have changed in nearly two decades. Wow!

Why not?

I've seen the pumps, you can extract milk and store it in a bottle.

And then you have to carry around a bottle, which also doesn't keep forever if you don't refrigerate it. Plus Sunny's point about the airline liquid restrictions and the tarmac delay. Why not avoid those hassles? To placate a couple of prudes that don't like being reminded that boobs exist?

lol the fact that you need an explanation to this shows you how desensitized from actual human emotion you are, ok?

Oh, I don't need an explanation. I know why it happens. I'm just challenging you to explain it, because I know you can't. That's the point.

Pedophiles have been bogeymen for as long as the media's been reporting on them. The fact of the matter is, though, that pedophiles are not all child molesters. Child molestation is - and absolutely should be - a crime. A very serious one, and a very scary one for anyone that cares about any children. Pedophilia is not child molestation, however. There is overlap, certainly, but being attracted to kids doesn't automatically mean actually having sex with them, just as being attracted to an unattainable adult doesn't automatically mean raping them. Pedophilia is merely attraction, no different from any other attraction that's unacceptable to act upon. And there's nothing wrong with that, provided it stays that way.

This is uncomfortable. Of course you don't like this idea. The notion that all pedophiles are dangerous child molesters is extremely common, and the fear and disgust that you (rightfully) feel toward child molestation gets conflated with fear and disgust of pedophiles. But that's wrong. It's hard to accept, but the fact that you can't articulate the difference between liking pineapple and liking little boy dicks is all the proof you should need to know that that aversion has no practical basis. Children will be a whole lot safer if pedophiles feel safe and comfortable saying "don't leave your kid with me," and that's only going to happen if everyone overcomes that aversion Then it's only the evil ones you have to worry about, instead of lapses in self-control. The evil ones are assholes. Nobody likes those guys.

LOL, are you joking?

it's a pretty big difference from not agreeing with someone's opinion of the new star wars movie to not agreeing that an eight-year-old has a sex-able body, ok?

And why is there a difference? Ignoring that you conflated "thoughts you don't like" with "opinions you don't agree with," what tangible, practical reason is there to treat those differently (again, presuming the latter is not acted upon)?

yeah ok, no sense in not hiring a social degenerate, right...

But they aren't a social degenerate. Not until they actually do something. Then they're scum and should be locked up and/or ostracized, but until then, they're just somebody who has some thoughts you don't like, and if you can't handle that, I question how you manage in day-to-day life.

i'd rather be judged for not liking a pedophile than otherwise.

But you're not being judged for not liking a pedophile. You're being judged for forming opinions without thinking about them. That's definitely not a good thing to be judged for.

So by being honest about having a problem and taking steps to avoid harming anyone, a person should be punished and shamed and not be associated with. I know nothing about this guy, but your logic is the entire reason people don't speak up about having problematic thoughts or obsessions before it's too much for them to handle. The thoughts are disgusting, but by ridiculing someone for being honest about having them and trying not to act on them you are doing more to contribute to the problem than they have.

Basically. When you have to hide urges because they're socially unacceptable, they get worse, not better.

That said he should seek therapy as should anyone else with those thoughts, but most don't out of fear.

Eh, that's debatable. It's not that black and white. Some should seek therapy, but others can completely mitigate any potential harm by just not being left alone with kids, something that's actually pretty easy to arrange when saying "I'm a pedophile, so don't leave your kids with me" doesn't carry a major risk of being beaten to death. It's not actually a disorder if it doesn't adversely affect the person's life (or the lives of those around them), in which case there's no need to cure them.
