I'm so tired of having to deal with the common rabble day in and day out, not encountering a soul who is anywhere near my wavelength and watching as the world slips farther into decadence.

The requirements for entry would be

>martial prowess in at least one school (excluding guns)
>philosophic and creative mindset
>above average intellect and cunning
>good fashion sense
>a specialized skill that could come in handy for the guild (doctor, lawyer, game designer, etc.)

The guild would just be known as The Guild to outsiders, as would the members (being referred to simply as Member [Code-Name]) and its true aims would be a secret to everyone.

I doubt I'll find any takers (or anyone who even qualifies) but send me a P.M. if you're interested or whatever.

You know, there's an Aesop that goes along the lines of Prometheus complaining to Zeus that the first humans he created were vastly out numbered by the wild beasts. Zeus, being Zeus, just took some of the animals and transformed them into humans to even things out. The moral of the story is that some people have the souls of beasts, not people, which explains the awful things they do.

If I would put credibility in any of the fables it would be that one. Living as a true human in a world of beasts is insufferable.

As the founder I would take the burden of being The Leader and let the Members focus on their tasks and projects. As for the requirements obviously I fit all of them or else I wouldn't have listed them.

I usually wear at least chain mail wherever I go and if I feel like I need it, I will also wear a steel breastplate.
I not really sure if this qualifies as a skill but I am a pro at saving damsels and have courted some of the most beautiful princesses across the land and danced the shaking of the sheet with many more. Let's just say I will be able to get some women into this guild.

Guns are actually fairly useless unless a) You are intent on killing your target and b) You have sufficient time to draw it, disable the safety, aim, aim, and fire (i.e. at least 20 feet from your target, if you go by police standards).

In my opinion, the ultimate martial arts weapon is simply fists and feet. If you want to discount those for not being a true weapon, then I'd say there isn't such a thing as an "ultimate" weapon, because the efficacy of weapons depends on what your goal is and what scenarios you have to use them in (which is why police typically carry batons and tasers [and sometimes knives, though they're not supposed to] in addition to their sidearms - if a gun truly was an "ultimate weapon", they wouldn't have need for anything else).

Most martial arts weapons aren't useful unless you plan on potentially killing your target, although a gun more effectively deters a person than countless other weapons. And you don't need to be 20 feet away from a target to shoot them, not to mention that drawing a weapon is a concern with every weapon. As for cops carrying batons and tasers, that's because they don't want to resort to lethal force which isn't a reflection upon the weapon. The whole point of martial arts is to subdue your opponent as quickly as possible with as little damage to you as possible. Guns are the perfect weapon in this regard.

Swords throughout history have been backup weapons. Samurai in particular preferred the bow and polearms. Hands and legs, while good for close-combat melee and surprise attacks, are basically useless against most weapons and are therefore one of the worst types of weapons. They're also *heavily* prone to self-harm, which defeats much of their purpose as weapons. Hell, if you don't tape your fists properly going into a fight, you break bones in your hand.

I have actually broke a bone in hand punching someone before. doc told me too its unlikely it will ever fully heal and will be prone to rebreaking easily

also what you said about swords is very true. even knights preferred lances or pole arms over swords. reason being was the range. seems like a lot of advancements in weaponry has come down to how can I strike my opponent from further away.

What if he's looking for weirdos?

Then they're still likely to be turned off, because anyone weird enough to match that level of weirdness will have to have specialized their weirdness, and probably taken that specialization in a different direction.

You want to be a Kingsman?

For real though TC, I think joining a HEMA group would be a perfect fit for you.

I've actually wondered why you haven't done so already when you're so obsessed with swords and swordfighting.

The most common martial arts weapons around - sticks/batons/clubs and their variants - can do exceptionally well at disabling a target without killing them.

Or killing them if you really want to. Point is, that's not their only application, which separates them from guns (one of the basic rules of gun safety is "Do not point your gun at anything you are not prepared to kill").

The police say you're wrong. Specifically they say that if your target is less than twenty feet away from you and you do not have your weapon in hand, they will be able to reach you before you have time to draw your weapon, disable the safety, and aim it.

True, but most weapons don't also have the additional steps of disabling a safety and aiming it. Hell, nearly all martial arts disciplines will teach you some variant of turning your draw into a strike. Iaido, for instance, broke off from kenjitsu from exactly that mindset.

*sigh*

No, you're wrong, and this is coming from someone with 25 years experience in the martial arts and who runs a martial arts school.

The point of martial arts isn't to "subdue your opponent as quickly as possible with as little damage to you as possible"; the point of martial arts is to do whatever you need them to do. That may be exactly what you said. It may involve non-lethal takedowns. After all, if you're dealing with a drunk friend who's getting a little punchy, you'll want to take him down without killing him, ideally without causing any serious injuries at all. Guns, in that particular application, would be an awful weapon. They would actually be worse than having nothing at all, because "nothing" can't inadvertently be turned against you.

Now, granted, there are applications where guns exceed other weapons by a vast margin. But that doesn't make them the ultimate weapon. If the only use of a weapon and martial arts was to kill, I might agree with you. But it's not. Again, this is why batons still exist and are still in widespread use despite the wide availability of personal firearms.
