It happens (albeit much less frequently these days as PC hardware configurations are less widely varied than they were a decade ago). You either roll it back to a previous installation or you wait for a new patch to fix it (reporting your issue if you want it fixed faster). A clean install would also likely have fixed the problem. Instead, you decided to fall back on what seems to be an understanding of computers that you learned from your grandmother's cat and deleted everything. DPsx7 posted... The message was sent a while ago. It wasn't 'please update'. Instead they sent 'we've started tampering'. Wanna say it was a phone number or something was changed. Without seeing the actual email and going entirely by your vague, paranoid ramblings, the only possible explanation I can come up with for what you're describing would be that your account has been compromised and somebody changed your information, and they wanted to verify that it was you. The email would have pretty clearly stated that intent, so I'm not sure how you could miss that, but you haven't exactly demonstrated a solid understanding of how these things work, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. It wasn't a crash. More a series of increasing problems. From DL'ing for hours despite installing from disc, to blocking its use, to DL'ing an update that corrupted the game. The ammo counter was moved to the center of the screen and the backgrounds became multicolored. Sounds like a broken installation. Something got messed up somewhere, whether it was a PEBKAC error or otherwise. A clean reinstall would probably have been your best bet there. It's nothing inherent to Steam or HL2 in general, since I can tell you I installed HL2 from a physical copy of The Orange Box without any issues. DPsx7 posted... I explained it in the previous reply. It was at least a year ago. Which is bad, but I still think it's better to have those countries at the table than not. Not a lot, because you aren't looking to water it down, but adding water helps some of the more volatile flavour compounds make their way to the air-liquid interface so you can smell/taste them more readily. --- This is my signature.
