I do not understand why they can't just keep the kids with the parents. put the kids in the same facility, or just deport them as a family. it makes no sense to me

When illegal immigrant parents were arrested in the past before trump what do you think happened to the children? Deportation isn't unique to trump and illegal parents being arrested for crimes they've committed other than illegal immigration is not new either

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I would assume the kids are being brought to a better facility where they are safer, and receiving better treatment then the parents, who are probably stuffed into a cramped, prison like area with everybody else without kids. Otherwise there would be no point to separating them at all.

That said, the alternatives many people are suggesting are equally unrealistic.

With the most common ones being:

"Just let massive amounts of illegal immigration happen."

"There should be no punishment for illegally trying to cross the border. If they fail today just let them try again tomorrow."

Those children aren't sent to abandoned Walmarts to live in cages with those shiny heat blankets on mats on the floor having no idea where their parents are or when they'll ever see them again. Their parents also know where they are. It's not a comparable situation.

I'm pretty sure the intention of removing the kids from the parents is to try and keep them safe, as I said earlier, correct me if I'm wrong, the parents are probably brought to a much worse place then the kids.

And without any documentation, and everyone probably in a hysterical state, how are you supposed to prove who's kids are who's. What if some guy grabs a crying child in the confusion and claims that's their kid. I'm guessing not everybody working at the border speaks Spanish either.
