Fred's portrayal in those movies gives me a very similar vibe to Ken (only 20 years earlier, so I guess it's kind of the other way around). Not quite as aggressively tongue-in-cheek as the entire Barbie movie was, but still a similar impression.

Lillard definitely got the closest to the original characters' personalities, though. Well, him and Scooby, but Scooby doesn't count.

Tales of Symphonia, both Baiten Kaitos games, Skies of Arcadia, Paper Mario, PSO episode 3, Crystal Chronicles, Fire Emblem, and both Lost Kingdoms were the ones I had.

I think that's pretty much a comprehensive list, though, and even then, Skies of Arcadia and Paper Mario are the only "traditional" JRPG's on there, and SoA was a remake. FE is strategy, BK, PSO3, and Lost Kingdoms were card battlers (weirdly ahead of the current popularity of deckbuilding RPGs, now that I think about it >.>), Lost Kingdoms and Tales are action JRPG's, and Crystal Chronicles just made pretty much everyone ask "why is this called Final Fantasy?". For people that wanted "more games like Final Fantasy," there wasn't a whole lot, whereas the PS2 had a metric ton of them (including FF itself).

It's a lot like the WiiU (though not as extreme) in that it had a solid library of really high-quality games, but not all that many of them. Notably, that was an era when JRPG's were big, and it had very, very few of those (though, again, Tales of Symphonia and Paper Mario TTYD are still highly regarded despite being less than numerous), which kept it from really thriving. That's actually a big part of why you struggle to think of third-party titles that we still care about: JRPG's have fallen out of vogue, and those made up a solid chunk of the PS2's success.

Still, I agree that it's a quietly underrated console. People generally won't actively disparage it aside from pointing out sales, but it's kind of tacitly accepted that it had a substantial number of games that are now considered classics, without many people overtly giving it credit for that.

I did play GC version years later and it was graphically a gen ahead of the ps2 version almost

This is something a lot of people seem to have forgotten. Every system Nintendo's released since the GC has been dunked on for not being as powerful as its contemporaries, but there was a very substantial power gap between the PS2 and the GC/Xbox that didn't stop it from becoming the best-selling console ever, let alone within its gen. The ecosystem of the console industry is now very different in that the vast majority of third-party releases are multiplat, which makes parity a lot more important to avoid being excluded from such releases, but the bottom line is still that having a good library matters more than specs in terms of overall success (hence the DS outsold the PSP 2:1 and the 3DS utterly demolished the Vita).

I don't know why I like that handle so much, given that I can't think of a single scenario where it would actually be useful (99% of the time, it stays in place, and if I am transporting it, it's either a short enough distance that a handle isn't necessary, or it's long enough that it's going in a larger bag or something), but I really like the handle.

Even before this most recent escalation, Palestinian civilian casualties outnumbered Israeli ones 20 to 1, and it's very likely that that ratio has only grown with the massive scale of Israel's retaliation. Can you really claim that whatever evil is being fought is so much greater that it is in fact necessary to kill that many civilians? Or is the person murdering the most civilians actually the greater evil?

that's just the excuse they give in Canada.

For all I know the boxes are free and landlords get to pocket the ad revenue

EDIT:, also, welcome back zang

I know for a lot of neighbourhoods, Canada Post has switched from doing door-to-door delivery and instead uses community mailboxes. That might be what they're talking about, in which case those are paid for by Canada Post. It wouldn't apply to houses that still get door-to-door delivery (in which case the mailbox was paid for when you bought it at Home Depot) or apartment/condo buildings that have an in-building mailbox (that would be paid for by the landlord and covered by your rent/condo fees). Some buildings might have struck a deal with some advertisers to send ads to their mailboxes (in which case, I'd expect the junk mail to be addressed to specific units instead of just being a blanket "deliver this to everybody" sort of deal) in exchange for a bit of revenue, but in that case it's less explicitly paying for the mailbox and more covering the general expenses of the building(/lining the landlord's pockets).

Either way, I avoid most junk mail with a "no flyers please" sticker on my mailbox.

I can't say I've ever heard of the idea that paper ads help pay for mailboxes, except maybe community mailboxes run by the post office. For personal mailboxes, that's 100% on the property owner in every case I know of. Even so, only covering part of the cost doesn't mean the box provider is paying to receive ads so much as it means they're paying to provide you with mail service, with ads meaning they can pay less.

OK, let me put this in simpler terms. Those are considered crimes in US justice system:

aiding and abetting
accessory after the fact
concealing a felon
harboring a fugitive
obstruction of justice

Correct?

How many crimes on that list are capital offences? Moreover, is every single American guilty of those crimes because Americans exist who have committed crimes that could be aided/abetted? And do none of them deserve a trial in which their guilt of those crimes is proven before they're executed for them (again, crimes which are not capital offences in any jurisdiction in the US)?

The idea that every Palestinian deserves to be killed because they haven't done enough to hold Hamas accountable for their terrorist actions is horrific even at face value. When you take a moment to think about it for a moment and realize that half of the country's population is under 18 and therefore you're suggesting that goddamn children deserve to be executed without trial for said "crimes," you cross the line into fucking lunatic territory. So stahp.

For bonus points: The logic you're presenting here is exactly the same logic that flew planes into the World Trade Centre. Don't you just hate when you accidentally a whole Al'Qaeda?

Seriously, what is the trouble you're having understanding this? The civilians being massacred by Israel are not Hamas. Why are you insisting that Hamas' actions justify massacring Palestinian civilians? Or is this all just a thinly-veiled way to say that you don't see a problem with murdering large numbers of Arabs?

Like the Inflation Reduction Act? The 740 billion dollar bill that does basically nothing to reduce inflation. They hope it will bring in 300 billion over the next decade. Super helpful.

Like the gas price gouging prevention act? Like the insulin price gouging prevention act?

The problem with inflation isn't simply that there's too much money, it's that too much of that money is being siphoned away by the leeches at the top and not trickling back down. If you want to mitigate that, you need to do things like implement a VAT, or adjust tax brackets to shift more of the burden to those who can afford it, or regulate the housing market to keep investors from pricing people out of having somewhere to live, or implement UBI. There's absolutely no chance the GOP would ever support such things, let alone propose them. The Democrats aren't particularly likely to push that far because they're similarly in bed with corporations, but the odds are nonetheless much, much better that they'll do something than that the GOP will.

Without measures specifically intended to stop wealth inequality from continuing to spiral out of control, the situation's going to get worse. Republicans won't take such measures. Quite the opposite: they'll cut taxes for the wealthy, distract everyone from the fact that they've done so by picking on whichever minority punching bag makes for the most effective culture war, slash a few programs for some short-term savings, then leave office just in time for the next Democratic president to have to solve the fallout from those decisions (fallout which, of course, the GOP will blame said president for).

You should know, you are Canadian. You actually have the luxury of a choice when it comes time to vote.

On paper, sure, but it's no secret that the actual competition is between the Conservatives and the Liberals. Everyone else mostly just gets votes when the Liberals are in a comfortable enough position that losing the riding in question won't let the Conservatives win, and even that often doesn't amount to much because the NDP or Greens having a few seats doesn't translate into having enough power to actually enact any of their platforms (the PCC offered an option for the Conservatives to split their vote, but they failed to gain any meaningful traction and will probably do even worse in the next election because Polievre isn't as moderate as O'Toole was). Trust me, I'd love an NDP government (and, in fact, I've voted NDP in every federal election since I turned 18, though I've voted in historically-Liberal ridings that have stayed red), but it's not something that's going to happen under FPTP, and the platform of electoral reform that the Liberals ran in 2015 died within weeks of them getting into office and realizing that nobody was ever going to agree on how to change the system.

The problem isn't the mindset of "one or the other," it's that one party is popular enough to stand a real chance of winning and also has some horrible ideas for running the country that need to be stopped. That results in people gravitating toward whichever party stands the greatest chance of beating them (and in some cases, formally forming coalitions to prevent vote splitting). From the politicians' end, you stand a much higher chance of having your voice heard and being able to act on your ideals if you align with an existing party instead of splitting the vote. That's something inherent in the electoral system and how votes get counted: So long as whether or not a party wins is a binary matter, securing a partial victory for a different party will have no value.

tbh, it's an interesting issue because the point is 100% valid yet sites also need to monetize somehow. Although a 100% premium model is an option, it'd kinda lock a portion of the population out from content.

Realistically, if enough people were blocking ads that it was actually jeopardizing sites' financial viability, those sites would have gone 100% premium a long time ago. The fact of the matter is that, as much as "if everyone blocked ads these sites would die!" is an accurate statement, not everyone blocks ads and those that do represent an extremely tiny minority of those that actually click on them (so even if they're hypothetically forced to view them and ad views go up, click-through rate goes down because they get ignored). Viewership stats are also valuable regardless of whether or not ads are blocked, plus you get word-of-mouth advertising and other forms of social engagement that can rope in views from people that don't block ads, so it's not like there's genuinely no value in adblock users using the site. This may change as adblock use increases, but that's mostly because ads are just straight up getting worse across the board (both in terms of intrusiveness and in being outright dangerous), so that's 100% on Google et al for refusing to take responsibility for the ads they deliver to people.

Really, the issue here is not that sites are in grave financial danger, it's that sites are trying to keep their revenue growing indefinitely to keep shareholders happy. If it were just about making enough money to stay afloat, safe, less-intrusive ads would be plenty. Instead, they keep looking for new ways to push the envelope for revenue and new corners to cut so this quarter can be bigger than last quarter, and that means periodic campaigns like this to convince shareholders that they're doing something about this "grave threat" to their profit margins. Capitalism, ho!

While true, even if Palestine was nothing but Hamas terrorists, it doesn't change the fact that their existence is something Israel could prevent if they ceased their apartheid.

Just in case someone pops up and says "look, 90% of Palestinians support Hamas", you know.

Yes, 100%. Palestinians support Hamas because the alternative is supporting an apartheid state that wants them all dead but doesn't quite have enough international support to achieve that yet, so it oppresses them to an inexcusable degree. If Israel weren't bent on turning Palestine into an open-air concentration camp, significantly fewer Palestinians would harbour enough resentment against them to engage in terrorist attacks. Because they're so mistreated, it's easy for terrorist organizations to find people desperate and disenfranchised enough to throw their lives away lashing out in anger. That becomes significantly harder when most people are content and comfortable and don't actually have anything to be angry about.

It's something a lot of people seem to struggle with: You can understand and even agree with terrorists' motivations without agreeing with or justifying terrorism. For an example that most will find easier to swallow, Nelson Mandela was a terrorist. Quite unambiguously so. He spent 27 years in prison for the terrorist acts he committed in his fight against South African apartheid. That doesn't mean his cause was not just, it means he went about fighting for it in a manner that wasn't. And then his time in prison gave him an opportunity to move past that and seek reconciliation and a peaceful resolution, such that he's remembered not for being a terrorist, but for being a great political leader.

Now, I'm not about to suggest that Hamas is the same as Mandela and those that fought with him, nor do I think characterizing them as "freedom fighters" is altogether accurate (as much as they're ostensibly fighting for freedom, they're focusing too much on spreading terror and not enough on trying to make strategic gains to secure a better life for Palestinians), but it's still analogous. That some people resort to terrorism in fighting for a cause does not invalidate that cause. You'd think Americans would understand that, but contextualizing one's own national history is a skill many people lack.

If it does start blocking you, updating ublock should clear it up. Don't be surprised if you have problems and other people don't, because Youtube has a history of only rolling out changes for some users, and in this case limiting the number of people they block reduces the chance that somebody working with ublock gets blocked and can work on bypassing it.

Neither party has ever voted their own speaker out, either. The democrats could have voted to keep him in, as much as that would have radically broken tradition. They chose not to.

Is Johnson their fault? I wouldn't say so. But it's still not wrong to say that the Democrats have some responsibility for ousting McCarthy.

For example when they started making USB keyboards and mice, at least for a while computers would also still include PS/2

More than that, most USB mice/keyboards also included a USB-PS/2 adapter for a very long time after USB started becoming the norm. If anything, it got annoying having to throw one out every time I got a new peripheral, but I'd still prefer that over having to buy a dongle for compatibility with a standard that's still everywhere.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

USB-C is great, and new devices having USB-C compatibility makes sense, but not at the expense of USB-A compatibility when so, so many devices (including ones that are currently for sale, not just legacy stuff) still use it. I also can't say I've ever really felt limited by "only" being able to transfer 10 Gb/s, particularly where the only place that might really matter for me is transferring to/from an external hard drive with a write speed slower than that and whose entire 3 TB capacity would take about 40 minutes to fill even if I could maintain the full 10 Gb/s, but I do recognize the potential the higher speed offers for things like USB-C monitors.

Ain't what happened bro

I mean, the democrats did unanimously vote to remove him. That alone didn't get him out, and given that their votes weren't really in question it would be more accurate to point the finger at Gaetz and then other clowns for messing with expectations, but his removal was still the democrats' desired outcome. It's not entirely inaccurate to characterize it as the Dems voting him out, as much as that's a very incomplete picture.

If it's something you really want and you've got the $7000 to spare, go for it. If you haven't had something like that before, though, I'd suggest starting with a much cheaper option to see if you like the basic idea enough to spend that kind of money enhancing the experience.

Peopel still saying "ublock origin" ect have you been to youtube in last few days? It's not that simple anymore.

It's marginally more complicated in that you might have to manually update uBlock, and there has been at least one period where Youtube was ahead of uBlock for a couple hours, but otherwise it's business as usual. Open your uBlock dashboard (the gears in the lower right), go to the Filter Lists tab, click "Purge all caches," then click "Update now." That should get things working for you again. If it doesn't, try again in a couple hours once they've had a chance to catch up.

It's probably not so much a conspiracy as it is something that's genuinely popular. It will, of course, be capitalized on until everyone's sick of it being overcommercialized, but that's not a conspiracy so much as it's what capitalism does: Makes money off of something until it stops making money.
