Let me put this in perspective. Romeo & Juilet is about two people that see each other at a ball and instantly start obsessing over each other despite not knowing a f***ing thing about each other. They spend the rest of the play obsessing but doing nothing with each other and the guy ends up killing Juilet's brother yet she still wants his f***ing dick. Then, the two hormone-crazed, obsessive teens commit suicide and its considered one of the greatest romantic tragedies of all time.

I'd argue that the only people that consider Romeo and Juliet to be one of the greatest romance stories ever don't actually know anything about the story beyond the fact that it's a well-known classic and romance happens. It's not even really a romance story, given that the actual focus is on the tragic consequences of clinging too closely to tribal pride. Romance is just a tool for creating those tragic circumstances.

Maybe so, but not on average.

And regardless of the average, it's so easy to move on to somebody better-looking that there's really no reason to let them affect your overall impression.

The fuck kind of logic like this? It's easy to look away from morbidly obese people on the street, so I logically shouldn't let them affect my overall impression of the population? If your argument is people are socialised on porn, then at least apply social logic to the porn.

It's not really supposed to be logic. Poor phrasing on my part. The point is that, because it's so easy to say "eh, they're ugly" and click another video, the ugly ones don't make a particularly memorable impression. It's not a matter of "you should forget them and not let them colour your impression" so much as "you're probably going to forget them." Comparatively, you don't really have that option in the real world, since even looking away from ugly people on the street means you're continuing to think about them for as long as you're looking away.

It's not exactly high end if you aren't keeping it up to date now is it?

Again, depends on how you're defining "high-end." A $2000 computer that's updated every five years is going to offer performance that would definitely qualify as high-end, given how slowly games are advancing (due in part to console cycles), and spending $400-500 per year (depending on the number of games purchased and how many sales were taken advantage of) on entertainment is not inconceivable even in a lower income bracket, if that's all you spend. Spending $3-4000 a year on top-of-the-line parts, however, is much less affordable.

Basically, it's the difference between "high-end" in terms of practical application and "high-end" in terms of e-peen stroking. The former is surprisingly affordable. The latter isn't, by the very nature of defining your self-worth based on how much money you've spent.

That sounds like it's going to end up being more trouble than it's worth, given that people are going to be demanding compensation when a cleaner inevitably walks in on something compromising. A more moderate policy would be more sensible, such as saying they guests will be disturbed after having the DND sign up continuously for a certain length of time (maybe 3-4 days), as well as taking steps to minimize how disruptive that disturbance is (such as knocking first, then calling the room to give notice that somebody's coming, then going in). An absolute removal of DND signs isn't going to help that much, though, and will end up pissing a lot of innocent people off.

high end PC gaming is not something poor people can afford

Depends what you mean by "high-end." If you're talking about upgrading annually? Yeah, that's a bit too much for anyone on a budget. If you're content with doing it every few years, though, and don't spend any other money on entertainment? It's still potentially cost-effective to be viable (disregarding the fact that living in a higher-crime neighbourhood with a high-value PC leaves one particularly vulnerable to a break-in).

It's a little more than that, though. There's the increasingly frantic single alarms, there's the smoke coming out of the ship, there's the rumble, there's the impairment to flying if you've lost a wing... Taking heavy damage in that game was an immersive, visceral experience, which was amazing.

well since humans have both types of teeth, it is unnatural. we are meant to eat meat and plants

Evolutionarily, humans are scavengers, which amounts to eating whatever one can find. Accordingly, we have teeth that can process a wide variety of foods. The development of agriculture (which is unnatural), however, means that's no longer the case, and we have a vastly greater degree of dietary choice available. To that end, what we evolved to eat doesn't really matter anymore.

Letting the government manage the infrastructure does make a fair amount of sense. At the very least, treating it as a utility (since it really is one) would alleviate a lot of the problems.

After all, nobody seems to care much about government run water.

Except when it's horrifically botched, but there are ways to prevent that. Namely, mandate some sort of minimum standard at a higher level of government to ensure municipalities handle it well enough, and providing subsidies to help them meet those standards.

Now, the end result of such a shift would probably be metered Internet, bringing it more in line with other utilities. Really, though, paying more for using more just makes sense. People don't like the idea because they're used to a flat monthly rate, and also because metered connections tend to be pretty badly price gouged such that they end up being substantially more expensive than a flat rate. Price it such that typical customers will end up paying about what they are now, with higher- and lower-use customers paying more/less, and that's pretty justifiable.

Because it causes environmental harm. That's not to say that companies should be held responsible for all bird deaths that result from their operations, but requiring a certain degree of due diligence isn't particularly unreasonable.

Basically, the comment that the previous interpretation was too broad and this one is too narrow seems right to me.

The fact that he murdered two people is independent of whatever beliefs he may hold.

Actually, it isn't. Committing murder means one of two things about one's mental health: Either one lacks impulse control, or one carries a callous disregard for human life. The former would be at odds with holding reasonable, moderate views, and the latter would be at odds with any sort of governmental policy that attributed intrinsic value to human happiness. Neither of those traits scream "moderate republican."

Either be honest and give the money back to the bank, or pocket the money. Punching the ATM is such a bizarre response.

By how ducky's telling the story, I think he was in a rush and he panicked when he was faced with the possibility of needing to take time to return it. It's still stupid, obviously, but I can at least see where he was coming from.

It's hilarious because what I got her is something I'm sure many of you own and have enjoyed over the years, something completely normal to you.

Was it porn?

He clearly worked labor costs into the price, and a born noble and guild leader does not work for a pittance! The difficulty he faced in wrapping that thing easily multiplied the base value but this wench didn't consider that in her discourteous show of gratitude.

Seriously though, whoever decided gifts needed to be wrapped in paper before being given needs to get a thousand paper cuts. I was this > < close to just cutting out six separate rectangles to put on each face of the box, since using one piece was so confusing.

Supposedly an expert swordsman, yet lacks the dexterity needed to wrap a box in paper. Huh.
