Watched half of the Snyder cut with my friends last night - we'll be finishing the rest in the next couple of days. Honestly, I was really surprised and impressed by how much better the changes have made it so far! Making a team-up movie with half the team previously unintroduced was a bad idea in general but the absurd runtime is already doing quite a lot to let the characters (even Steppenwolf!) breathe and feel more developed. If the rest keeps this pace I can see myself putting it below Wonder Woman, landing it just above the "actually good movie" cut-off.

not a great track record. I used to not like Man of Steel but I have now seen it probably 10 times so I cannot deny I like it on some level

Aquaman always rubbed me the wrong way, it's such a generic, boring bland...thing. Obviously BvS is worse, but I would still probably watch it again before Aquaman because I was actually falling asleep during that thing. At least BvS will keep me awake...with anger.

Funny, falling asleep is the reaction that best describes BvS for me. I don't hate what it tried to do, but the execution was incredibly bad in the sense it drags and drags and tells instead of showing. And whenever the film feels like it's hitting a strong note it stalls for another 40 minutes.

Theres a good scene in the middle where congress explodes and you think the story will pick up and it just doesn't. The whole thing fails at the most basic principle of film making which is "this should be entertaining".

Man I legit can't imagine finding Aquaman boring. It's by far the most fun a DC movie has ever been IMO. (Though I'll say Shazam could just as easily be in this spot if you're 100% into what it's doing.)

The whole film is utterly exploding with vibrant colors and visual creativity and maintains a great swashbuckling feeling of adventure the whole way through.

That's why I'm not hyped on Snyder Cut because for me Snyder's vision on DCEU just translates to boring storytelling with some cool visuals.

(I don't hate Snyder on the whole though, I enjoyed Watchmen and 300)

For all that SS and JL are bad, at least they manage to keep my attention with quips and whatnot. BvS can't even do that.

Eh Aquaman and WW feel like generic MCU films to me.

Which is a very high bar for DCEU so they end up near the top of my rankings.

The only film of DCEU that tried to be special and succeeded is Shazam, imo.

WW was ok enough. Shame WW84 was an unbelievably terrible pile of shit though. Like its basically a disaster in every regard other than Pascals energy. Bad special effects, horrible script and some bafflingly bad content I have no idea how anyone who made it was ok with.

Aquaman was fun, but I can understand not loving it. I was really into the whole thing though.

Shazam is incredibly fun and I don't understand anyone who doesn't think that movie is great.

Yeah Aquaman was fun and I could rewatch it. It's just not particularly groundbreaking or anything.

It's a Thor film that is much better than the original Thor film but somewhat worse than Ragnarok.

I don't think a ton of people like Birds of Prey though. That one is a legitimately awful movie.

Probably a bit of both? A DCEU movie being moderately fun and possibly worth another watch is a pretty monumental achievement given how bad theyve been.

BoP is bad but it is mostly entertaining. I didn't leave it feeling insulted, just disappointed at some things.

Aquaman is good but not amazing.

I genuinely enjoyed Birds of Prey. There were parts of it I cringed at for sure, but overall I thought it was pretty fun.

Like I don't even care if you like it or not, but I'm hoping for more than "Willem DaFoe spits out exposition". Because the rest of the movie has freaking loads of action and fun, unique scenes.

I think my main thing is that I will take terrible over mediocrity any day if the week is it's a rewatch. There's no reason to rewatch a by the numbers middle of the road movie, there's plenty of reasons to rewatch a terrible movie.

Ok, just rewatched this scene. Its literally two minutes long. And theyre not just sitting around on a couch talking like this is a Star Wars prequel or something. 90% of this scene his exposition is played over a dope flashback showing us the fall of Atlantis.

Dude you really need to get a new go to example for criticizing this movie!

I stayed up till 4 am watching this like a crazy person. I honestly enjoyed it a lot more than I expected to. It's 10x better than Whedon's version and I didn't even really hate it before. But now with the context and after looking up the differences, I retroactively really dislike it.

I kinda want to convince my friend to watch it for an excuse to watch it again <_< What's wrong with me?

I find it really weird how the MCU ended up being a team of mostly do-gooders who bonded together to protect people as their number one value but in the DC Cinematic Movies theyre just a group of super powerful incredibly flawed and broken people who just happened to come together when traditionally Marvel and DC were literally the exact opposite.

I don't agree with this. I think it's the overall tone of the films that's coloring how you see it. MCU is still filled with bickering and distrust in a majority of the team up films, it's just undercut by the much lighter tone and quips. Whether you find that to be a flaw or not is a different story.
