Makes you wonder what would have happened if the July 1944 assassination attempt against Hitler had been successful. Would the western Allies have stood united -- or might separate peace deals have been negotiated, deals that ended up sparing Germany from western occupation?
The 1944 plotters were still strong nationalists and wanted a Great Germany, with at least the 1914 borders plus Austria. The Allies would never have accepted those demands, and were gunning for an unconditional surrender of Germany, which the entire Wehrmacht opposed.

It took a long time. A lot of the general German population still believed that the Nazis weren't that bad. A lot of bureaucrats from the Nazi party got to keep their jobs. Hans Globe, who helped write the Nuremberg race laws, made it into a top position in the chancellery. The Wehrmacht was generally believed to be a "clean and honorable" army instead of an instrument of genocide; some generals who had ordered crimes against humanity got off scott free, and the myth wasn't properly dispelled before the 1990s.

The answer to that riddle is "the pool is a planet and the man is a room outside", and thus you did in fact find a planet with a telescope earlier.

Its a widely accepted economic fact that eventually so much wealth is hoarded that people cant buy goods to support businesses and the whole thing collapses.

Could be 10 years or 100 but we are headed that way here.
Not if businesses adapt and switch to selling goods targeted at the new wealth demographics. Mid-range products will disappear, and there will be two classes of goods left: cheap, ultra-efficient ones designed for the workers, and hyper-expensive, ultra-luxurious ones aiming to get those juicy stockowner riches.

...both the Red Tribe and the Blue Tribe, for whatever reason, identify America with the Red Tribe. Ask people for typically American things, and you end up with a very Red list of characteristics guns, religion, barbecues, American football, NASCAR, cowboys, SUVs, unrestrained capitalism.

That means the Red Tribe feels intensely patriotic about their country, and the Blue Tribe feels like theyre living in fortified enclaves deep in hostile territory.

Here is a popular piece published on a major media site called America: A Big, Fat, Stupid Nation. Another: America: A Bunch Of Spoiled, Whiny Brats. Americans are ignorant, scientifically illiterate religious fanatics whose patriotism is actually just narcissism. You Will Be Shocked At How Ignorant Americans Are, and we should Blame The Childish, Ignorant American People.

Needless to say, every single one of these articles was written by an American and read almost entirely by Americans. Those Americans very likely enjoyed the articles very much and did not feel the least bit insulted.
And look at the sources. HuffPo, Salon, Slate. Might those have anything in common?

On both sides, American can be either a normal demonym, or a code word for a member of the Red Tribe.

Atlantis is even more interesting when you realize a lot of the backstory for it is based on real stuff. It references a lot of the traditional Atlantis myth sources, from Plato to Ignatius Donnelly to Theosophy ideas, with a dash of just general New Age and sci-fi tropes thrown in.

It basically feels like someone sat down and did like years worth of research on every single major idea involving Atlantis that had been written for the last 2000 years and tried to hammer them all into one cohesive whole that could represent a single culture.
Or they just ripped off all the work Miyazaki and Gainax did for Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water.

The videos that talk only about historical events tend to be accurate. His political science views are unique, to say the least. By his definition, everything that involves groups of people controlling the economy is socialist. This includes not only nazi Germany, but all current countries as well, since the modern economy mostly consists of corporations, which are owned by multiple people. It's a consistent definition, but it's so far from the usual one it's hard to derive any meaning from it.

When it comes to modern politics, he has been taking jabs at left-wing protesters and "Britain's national socialist health care system". Still, it's hard to consider avowed anti-nazi and anti-corporatist "alt-right".

TopicHey math people - Reduce fail rate, or reroll failures?
ZeldaMutant
09/29/20 9:46:15 AM

It's easiest to tabulate.
Single 2d6: 0%, 3%, 8%, 17%, 28%, 42%, 58%, 72%, 83%, 92%, 97%, 100%
Reroll 2d6: 0%, 5%, 16%, 30%, 48%, 65%, 82%, 92%, 97%, 99%, 99%, 100%

Using the +1 item is equivalent to moving one step to the right. Using a +2 item is equivalent to moving two steps to the right, and so on. Using the reroll item is equivalent to moving from the top row to the bottom row.

From here we can see that if your unmodified success condition is
2d6 >= 13, 12 or 11 (0%, 3% or 8% chance), it's better to take a +1 modifier than a reroll.
At 2d6 >= 10 or easier (17+% chance), it's better to take a reroll than a +1 modifier.
Until 2d6 >= 7 (58% chance), it's better to take a +2 modifier than a reroll. At 2d6 >= 6 (72% chance), they become basically equal.
At 2d6 >= 4 the +2 modifier becomes better again since it gives 100% chance. At 2d6 >= 3 the +1 modifier becomes better than the reroll since it gives 100% chance.
A +3 modifier is always superior.
