If they were made during the 19th century, they might have some historical significance. But almost all of them were just made because some racist hicks didn't like black people. But anyone who thinks it's literally the best game of all time has some serious nostalgia goggles on. | Whargarble 05/10/20 8:19:55 PM #5 | Mass Effect 2 is amazing. Persona 5 is also pretty damn great and so is Dark Souls, but those two games definitely aren't for everyone. Dark Souls in particular is extremely rough around the edges compared to more modern games that were inspired by it. And then there's Xenoblade Chronicles which I probably played for about 10 hours before finally admitting to myself that it was boring as shit. --- Welcome to Weebfaqs. | Whargarble 04/25/20 9:59:27 PM #53 | People like to bring up the OP equipment and magic Link has access to as though Cloud can't get to the point in FF7 where he can summon exploding comets and meteors, heal himself instantly with magic, revive himself in firey explosions (final attack phoenix), summon monsters strong enough to murder gods, and buff himself to the point where he can tank hits from physical gods. Seriously, it's possible to get idiotically overpowered in FF7. And if Link has an inventory full of fairies and blue potions, Cloud has a 99 Elixers and enough HP to survive the sun exploding in his face. --- Welcome to Weebfaqs. The FPSs after Doom and Goldeneye, the platformers after Mario's particularly revolutionary titles, and the open world games that followed the GTA games, and even some MMOs after WoW. A ton of those "copycats" were absolutely fantastic. | Whargarble 04/08/20 12:16:53 AM #27 | Objective answers are probably Super Mario Bros, Doom, Goldeneye, Mario 64, GTA3, WoW, or Metal Gear Solid. All of them defined their genres in incredible ways and unquestionably raised the bar. Halo and Minecraft were revolutionary too, I guess. But they mostly caused awful trends by copycats trying to recapture the magic those games had by copying the gimmicks without capturing the actual souls of the game and what made them so good. Specifically, Halo started the trend of regenerating health and very limited weapon inventory, and Minecraft is the reason every goddamn game under the sun has a tacked-on and completely unnecessary crafting/breakable item mechanic. I'm not criticizing those two games.
