It's entirely possible to use a word and have absolutely no intention of associating it with the root definition. It also doesn't take away from the chunk of people that do use it in a purposely offensive manner. My whole point is that it's impossible to make a single judgement call on the topic.

There's only one case I can imagine where you could use the word gay as an insult innocuously. If we're talking about somebody (a child maybe) who has no idea what the word gay means and only knows it as a synonym of "bad" because that's how they've heard other people use it. Then I'd agree that is an instance where somebody is using it as an insult without any intention of associating it with its main usage.

For people who DO know what it means to be gay, that's not the case. If you know what the word means, you can't divorce it of that meaning when you use it to try to insult somebody. When used as an insult it inherently draws on bigotry for its power to hurt.

"That's gay" with no particular emphasis on the correlation to gay people. As I said, it will offend some people regardless of intentions behind it. It's not the kind of speech I'd use, but people have and will use it in such a manner. I would agree it's juvenile, but it doesn't make someone a horrible person either.

I feel it's sort of like the r-word. There are purposely offensive applications and applications that have evolved away from the actual definition of the word. Both are certainly offensive to certain people regardless of context, but trying to act as the moral arbiters of speech seems pretty frivolous at the end of the day.

No but my neighbor had her package stolen once. It contained fertility medicine she had been prescribed. That stuff has to be taken at regular schedules if I'm remembering right, so she and her husband were devastated to have their attempt disrupted. In the end they weren't able to have a child and it might have been because of that disruption. They are planning on trying again soon

When you beat the game, you can view IVs in your Pokemon's status screen. They don't give you exact numbers 0-31, but instead verbal descriptions ("worst" "ok" "good" etc. I forgot all of them). It turns out having exact numbers doesn't really matter, though. If it's a perfect 31, the game says it's "best" and that's all I really need to know. I don't really care if an IV is 16 vs 18.

I get those same feelings of unease knowing what I'm catching is suboptimal. Not any more though, since you can fix bad natures and IVs on any Pokemon. The only change I'd make is to allow bottle caps to be used on any fully evolved Pokemon instead of every level 100 Pokemon. Or maybe just lower it from 100 to 50, since there are reasons people don't want to evolve some pokemon.

Has anybody ever played around with a rounded octagon? Where the lines are curved and the eight angles are not quite as sharp as in a normal octagon? Like a mix between octagon and circle.

That way you'd still get the subtle guidance of the octagon shape but it'd also be easier to make subtle adjustments between the angles thanks to the slight curves.

I stopped right when they set you off to do the trials because Pokemon was coming out. I'm sad it undoes the whole of act 2, was hoping it would somehow recapture some of those character moments. I'll probably get to it some day but I'll probably turn off the draconian modes first.

I really enjoyed this movie. It's definitely not as good as Frozen 1 but that's hard to do.

Frozen is Disney's best animated movie and IMO is much more emotionally resonant than its sequel, which is less character-driven and more plot-driven. Also, Frozen 2's story is more convoluted than before. Where Frozen 1 is elegantly and memorably simple, Frozen 2 is mysterious but harder to understand. And the emotional payoffs are not as high as in the first movie.

The songs in frozen 2 are amazing even if none of them are as powerful as let it go. The movie is visually resplendent and I love the unraveling sense of mystery. But the new characters feel underdeveloped, and Kristoff's role in the story is superfluous.

HL2: Episode 2 has a cargo ship called The Borealis with a bunch of Aperture freight on it which is the real tie in.

She's joking that Black Mesa would employ chell, but the reference itself is real.

Portal 1 also has rooms near the end of the game where you can see projectors displaying powerpoints about how Aperture can compete with Black Mesa. It's been canonically in the same universe since the start.

But still in a fictional universe with its own unique culture, like an alternate take on our modern life with a twist--so a game like The Sims wouldn't count since it's basically just a simulation of our real world afaik.
