I love going there. I'm from/in California and try to make visit once every couple of years.

Honestly I'm jealous of my cousin who moved there earlier this year. I thought she'd hate it but she posted on IG how much she loves it. She was born in FL, childhood in Kentucky, and high school and college in Nebraska, so totally opposite of big city girl.

I loved NYC 100x more than I thought I would when I went there years ago. It's great.

But then I also heard of people that have lived in NYC their entire lives and have never left the city once. That's pretty crazy.

Nice to visit but you would have to pay me a lot to want to live there. The only actual thing NYC has that I'm jealous of is a 24/7 metro when it's not flooded or someone jumps in front of a train. DC's metro closes at 2am at the latest on weekends, service ends early on Sundays (which I found out the hard way), and the dummies don't even account for things like people staying out late downtown on a week night to watch the Nationals win the World Series

Otherwise I dont see what I'm missing out on by living in an insanely overcrowded city with trash on sidewalks and $1k apartments the size of a large bedroom. I live in the suburbs of DC with easy metro access if I want the crowded city life, and most importantly I'm not renting, so it's the best of both worlds for me

if you have money to the point where you only walk where you want to, have somebody drive you everywhere, go to the best restaurants and enjoy shopping at nice places and go to the best high class clubs and bars and live in a penthouse with security then yeah nyc might be the best city in the world. other than that it blows ass here.

I know people with money who've moved out there and the describe it exactly like this. An unlimited number of restaurants are available at your fingertips on UberEats/DoorDash/etc., you can barhop every weekend and never hit the same place twice, there's always a band you like playing somewhere, always some kind of event or show you might like, and the dense concentration of people makes it easy to find people you like.

If I ever got an offer for a really good job, I'd move out there. Probably not permanently, but it's something I'd love to experience.
