Great article. Young women should heed this advice before it's too late. Having a career and all is awesome, but, if you are sacrificing your (potential) family for that, you'd better have truly made up your mind about it and not just start crying and hating your life when it's too late.

So who will be the first one to go 'Lol Vincent' at this post or 'XFD are you kidding me l0s0r'

Alright, let me explain to you why we all act so extreme on this board, and it's the same reason you have been coming and will keep coming to this board for years.

You can't find it anywhere else. If you want a calm, "nuanced" debate, go talk to your coworkers or some random guy on the bus. If you want to talk about typical, socially acceptable, mundane topic, go talk to your neighbor or classmates or something.

There are so many places for you to find your precious nuanced debate. But there are few places where you can find people who will debate with you to the most extreme point, with no regard for tact, dignity, friendship, emotions, or any of that other stuff that stifles everyday discussions. While you might say that you can find this sort of discussion anywhere on the internet, only b8 has people who are actually intelligent and can back up their stances with facts and logic (around 50% of the time, at least).

So basically you subconsciously crave the aggressive discussions we have on this board because you like having your viewpoints and beliefs challenges, and being able to defend them

This is completely incorrect. There are many other boards with many intelligent users, plenty of them beating this board, proportion-wise.

Didn't think you picked any side in the console war, Nio.

WAS team Sony now and forever, and am the owner of the elusive Pocketstation, for Final Fantasy VIII Japanese version (it had a cute chocobo game to unlock Chocobo and Minimog and Moomba summons... dunno if they kept it in the US/EU version). My first PlayStation was like the EARLY models with no analog controller support. God that thing made late PS1-era gaming hell...

But with Vlado being the dick he is to non-Sony people, eh, time to jump ship to glorious PC master race, since all the other games I like are in arcades anyway.

And with Vi-tan's stupid CMA and general interface screwing me over and over again whenever I back it up... Gah.

How exactly would one sell an individual steam game?

WazzupGenius00 posted...
There'd have to be some way to de-activate it from your account and then transfer it over to your buyer.

In the case of Steam, a new version of the program would have to be released that enables you to sell your Steam game. However, this means that Steam would automatically de-activate and delete the game from your computer when you try to sell your Steam game.

They don't have to delete it, just prevent the ability to launch it. Like with free PS+ games on PS3 once your PS+ membership expires.

It was in the in-game manual.

Also it probably helps that the game's level design is rather expansive and isn't all that linear.

One more thing on the story: I really like the "historical" context and real-world footage the game uses in some cutscenes! Guess I'm going to be missing those in the sequels, huh.

What do you mean, "missing"? Historical context is there throughout the series, I'm not sure about real-world footage, but that's not as important.

Software downloads are not property any more than the music you hear on the radio is property.

That is not even remotely correct. This court ruling has said that software is property. If you purchase a license, there's a transfer of ownership. The ruling is clear on that.

KingButz posted...
It's intangible.

So? Are you going to wrongly argue that you can't own an intangible thing? Also, if you really are going to claim that it's impossible to own an intangible thing, then I'd really like to see the twisted logic that you'd use to attempt to claim that someone else can.

KingButz posted...
When you buy a game on Steam/Origin/PSN or wherever, you aren't actually buying the software. You are only buying a license to use the software, which license can be revoked at any time (at least, under the agreement).

Yes, you're buying the license. Congratulations. At which point, you own the license.

Also, you don't see to get this: the agreement officially means not a single thing when it contradicts the law.

KingButz posted...
If the government can nullifying a willing agreement, what can't they nullify?

There's two major points I need to make about this:

1. No government was involved here, and the fact that you have brought up "the government" makes me think that you have deep-rooted misunderstandings about this entire case. This was a court case. A court is not a government. A court is explicitly separate from a government, in nearly all countries (and certainly throughout the EU). This is a court, ruling on the law, which is what they are there for.

2. You're attempting to argue that a court (of law) should not be able to nullify an agreement that is against the law. The reason that you don't want courts to be able to do this is to protect the ability of corporations to nullify the law. This is backwards. It is the complete opposite of how things should work.

Great post, would read again.
