It's more of a trope or rhetorical weakness, but I also like what I call "Dark Lord Syndrome." So the protagonists or main antagonists will be vry ebil and have to go out of their way to be contrarian to nice things.

So you get them running around with "Oh, that cake is so sweet and tasty and therefore disgusting! I would much rather eat worms, which are delicious, by which I mean gross."

"Praise our wonderful, by which we mean bad, Dark Lord, the master of all that is good, by which we mean evil in the world, like pain, which we find pleasurable and fun, because it's unpleasurable and bad."

"Today is gloomy and rainy and stormy. How glorious it is, by which I mean nasty and foul."

The new Sabrina on Netflix did a lot of that in the first season.

It hasn't been much of a thing lately, but "magic duel" was a big thing in the 80s and 90s. Like, not characters who usually use magic, but a stage magician would come to town, challenge the regular characters (or a one-off friend) to a duel and they'd have to do tricks, either with real or stage magic.

Defenders of the Earth, Jem, Batman, two different generations or My Little Pony and I think Tiny Toons all did it.

Aww how old is Steve the cat? She sounds very cuddly
Little Stevethe is going on 11 now. :o She is so cuddly. She's always loved being pet on the chest and rump, even as a little wildling. She doesn't like to sit in laps or be held, she's too serious to play with toys, but sometimes she'll have a 'love attack' and take a flying leap onto my dad's chest and love all over his face. It's unfathomably cute. If there were such a thing as a $400 cat, Steve would definitely have been worth it. <3

Born April 2010, adopted sometime mid-October same year. It's easy to remember, because my now-spouse and I had just started dating when she was born and adopted her when we were at about the six-month mark and feeling all fuzzy about each other. We call her our mascat (and about seventy other affectionate things).

This is Steve the Cat. It's a female cat who was named before being sexed. However, gender is an oppression structure and cats literally cannot care. Steve was born in the bushes outside my house in college. It was a split-level house with the downstairs bedrooms having ground-level windows, so my roommate had called us all in to gawk one day when a cat was having babies; we sat there like yokels at an aquarium.

A couple months later, Steve would always be in my parking spot when I came home, then started following me to the door whenever I came home with sushi. I fed it a few times, then decided to bring it inside because it was getting cold for the year. As soon as I did, we got a knock on the door from the people across the street.

Neighbor 1: Hey, that's my cat.
Me: Oh, sorry. Here you go, you can have it back.
Neighbor 1: Nah, nah, nah, it's fine, you can keep it. But, uh, that's a good cat. It cost me $400. That's a $400 cat.
Me: Oh. Sorry. No, cats should be free. You can have it back.

At that moment, another person from the neighboring house came out.

Neighbor 2: What are you doing?
Neighbor 1: They have my cat.
Neighbor 2: Th- Wha-? You drunk, that's MY cat!

They ran back inside and came over to my doorstep about two minutes later with a little plastic dish. The following neighbor lines happened at the same time, overlapping.

N1: Yeah, I don't know, I've been feeding it, but I think it's a stray.
N2: $400 cat!
N1: I don't really care, so long as it's got a home. You guys can keep it. Here's the dish and everything.
N2: It is a $400 cat!

At that point, one of my housemates heard the slight commotion and, being a nervous sort, ran to the front door and thrust two twenties into the faces of the neighbors and yelped "We don't want any trouble!"

N1 said something else like we didn't need to pay or whatever; N2 took it. At that point, I basically had to keep Steve. And I'm glad I did because she's a sweety keety meowmeow and I wuv her.

Thanks to successful Republican gerrymandering, propaganda, court installations and threats at the federal and local levels, the right to an abortion has been whittled down to be mostly symbolic. But the only thing keeping it even nominally legal in most states is the constitutional standard written in Roe v. Wade's insulting compromise about when pregnant women cease to be people (and then made worse in Gonzales v. Carhart).

They won't let us bring in a slab of meat for choppin', though. Health code blah blah, with COVID on top of it. It's a trade-off of home convenience and getting the most mouthfeel mileage out of my leftovers vs. support small business/community. And then weighing that convenience against the inconvenience of the lost space.

Anyone have experience with these in a home kitchen? There are some pretty affordable ones (and some more expensive ones and some yet-nicer still ones that I definitely don't need). I've been kicking around getting one for a while, but am now in a position to actually be making these purchases.

We buy a lot of full hunks of meat and cook whole birds pretty often, which leaves us with lot of great leftovers. If we could cut them down into thinner slices, they'd have greater versatility for sandwiches.

But I don't usually go for uni-taskers and a deli slicer seems like a lot of counter/cabinet space for something I'll totally cut myself on.

I love being an adult so much more than being a kid. If I could New Game+ my life, I think I would take it, but I definitely wouldn't want to live my childhood again just for the sake of extra youth or to return to a simpler, happier time, because it wasn't.

As for the type of person I am now... Well, I actually like that I enjoy athletics, politics, cooking and music more than I did when I was a kid (bcuz sports r dum and politics r boring and cooking is 4 girlz and jazz is weird), but as for "What would ten year-old Vanai think of thirty-one year-old Vanai," I can't deny that I'd think I was boring.

I was definitely going to live in Ireland or Japan and be a famous writer/computer programmer/Rottweiler breeder who played video games and wore goth clothes every day, even when it wasn't the Renaissance Festival. I'm elated to have failed to live up to that.
