what would even be a better equivalent? Old Pirates were basically PMCs. Their outlaw status mostly depended on which, if any, government was paying them. Pirates who worked for the British government were known as Privateers. The King of England would then deny any involvement when Spain would complain about being attacked by Pirates. Pirates today are basically just organized crime. So the comparison you want to make depends on the time period of pirates. Because Democratic politicians and donors are not actually interested in doing that and are opposed to any of the things that would get us there. They're the ones who want to overturn citizens united which would stifle the power big donors have over politics. Utopia gets built one brick at a time. Get money out of politics and better things are sure to follow. Republicans are interested in killing unions, schools, journalism, democratic elections, rational courts anything that leads to liberalism. Democrats are actively opposed to doing the same, they think it's wrong to do so. No you just didn't understand democratic methods. Exposure and education of modern society's struggles and prejudices is what stops people from becoming conservative. I also don't feel like I need to explain how being pro-union is inherently counteracting being anti-union and such. Everything the Democrats do is in opposition to the Republicans. Yes, voting for Democrats is better than voting for Republicans, but the party you're imagining is not the one that actually exists. Democrats are not really a party. It's more like a coalition of progressives, liberals, and moderates who have banded together for the purpose of opposing the Republicans.
