For something like $2 million dollars Epic gives you the source code for the engine and then you can fuck around with the engine however you want to suit your needs.

This sort of thing is generally only done by huge publishers. Duke Nukem Forever did this with Unreal Engine 2 and modified it so much that it was basically almost as good as Unreal Engine 3 and that's one of the reasons why the fucking thing was stuck in development hell for so long.

Nah. That's not true and never has been. The job system isn't used as often as people think it is, either.

3, 5, X-2, 13 series, and the MMOs are the only main series titles with job systems.

All the rest are either fixed jobs or develop your own character type stuff.

The job system is used more frequently in spinoff type stuff since that's the easiest way to attach final fantasy associations to it. Tactics / TA / Bravely Default / Mobius / etc.

I finally stepped out of the main loop path... my god, this world is huge. I initially wondered if the $60 price tag was a little high for a game that has a sort of indie-looking charm... nope. This game has meat on the bones.

It is kind of high honestly, but there are a few things to consider that make it a bit understandable.

1. They built an entirely new engine just to make this game.
2. They have a decent amount of voice acting (VAs are the most expensive part of any game that uses them) especially if you want quality voice acting.
3. The game is pretty well polished with very few bugs. A lot must have been spent on QA.

It's a really strong bow that increases the encounter rate while it's equipped. It's supposed to be a "drawback"
