Robert Van Hook, who fatally stabbed David Self in 1985 in Cincinnati and then attempted a gay panic defense, was executed by lethal injection on Wednesday by the state of Ohio.

CBS News reported: The family of victim David Self supported the execution, telling the parole board last month that he is missed every day. Selfs sister, Janet Self, said her brother had been reduced over the years to a gay man in a bar, when he in fact he was so much more. Authorities say Van Hook met Self at the Subway Bar in downtown Cincinnati on Feb. 18, 1985. After a couple of hours, they went to Selfs apartment where Van Hook choked the 25-year-old Self to unconsciousness, stabbed him multiple times in the neck and then cut his abdomen open and stabbed his internal organs, according to court records. Van Hook stole a leather jacket and necklaces before fleeing, records say.

if he was panicking, don't go to the gay person's house. and if your panicking, just stab to disable and then flee. if you really are panicking in self defense you don't do injuries beyond what you need to get away. he wasn't panicking. he just wanted to kill a gay man, or kill a man in general. maybe he just wanted to feel what it's like to kill. and this guy was an easy target

years of appeals. there are peope believe it or not, on death row who are innocent and we have proven that some people in history were executed that were innocent. we have to make as close to sure as we can the person is really guilty before we kill them. cause you can't take that back. that is why personally I am against the death penalty. it's too risky. and America and Japan are the only first world nations that still do it. do we want to act like third world nations?

Not a supporter of the death penalty but the man clearly deserved to be put behind bars indefinitely.

Yeah. If you're not 100% completely sure the person is guilty, like if there's even a sliver of a chance they're innocent they just shouldn't even be on death row.
