So I finally got to start up DA2. My Grey Warden was a dual-wielding warrior, and I'm gonna switch it up a bit with a... sword and shield wielding Hawke. Yeah, yeah, I know, it's probably super boring to a lot of people. But I appreciate how much more visceral the combat of DA2. It might not make a huge difference, but battles looking and feeling faster instead of the plodding nature of DA:O's combat gives off a much better first impression. I also appreciate how BioWare decided, unlike DA:O's more slow prologue scenarios, you get a first impression of how each class will play with maxed out abilities. It goes suck to lose the unique backgrounds.

DA2 does make up for it with the early gut-punch, though. You have to lose one of your two siblings based on what class you chose and you meet up with a married couple where one of them gets tainted by the darkspawn and has to be mercy killed. Losing a unique background for your character is kind of a drag, but I really do appreciate how low you're put in the beginning of DA2. It makes sense that the game is largely about building your Hawke up to being a champion. You've lost so much in the first hour of the game and even Flemeth let's you know it's not going to get any easier.

Also, sexy Flemeth seems so weird. Isn't there like a middle ground between her DA:O appearance and what we got here? Also despite my initial turns at a good, righteous, Diplomatic Hawke, I did opt to repeatedly ask Flemeth to make be a dragon. Sadly, she did not. From what I remember, whatever option you choose (Diplomatic, Charming, or Aggressive) most of the time will then reflect in dialogue by your Hawke when you don't get the option to pick what they say. Which is kinda like ME3 which has Shepard talk on their own. I know ME1 and 2 you literally picked every single piece of Shep dialogue, but not ME3, and I know DA:O you obviously chose every line of unspoken dialogue. Also, I played as MaleHawke last time I played almost a decade ago, so now I'm giving FemHawke a try. I will say that I think I like the male voice actor more, but FemHawke could grow on me.

But anyway, just escaped Lothering and got to Kirkwall. I actually let Aveline decide what to do with her husband, which led to her gaining favor with me (which I believe is measured in Friend vs. Rival where maxing out either way gains a new ability). I suspect I won't be using her much due to redundancy with my Hawke.

Game and DLC is $11. It has been $26 for a while.

Funnily enough, it's also the most expensive of the 3. DA:O is $4.99 and DA:I is $9.99. And both those include all the DLC.

So Cameron Grimes returned to NXT tonight for the first time in ages, except he rolled up in a Lamborghini because now he's apparently rich.

Why? Because apparently while away he got into video games, and when he ran out games to play, he went to Gamestop to buy more and thought the store was so dang cool he invested money into it by buying its stock.

That's right: Cameron Grimes is a moron who invested into a brick and mortar store thinking it was just awesome, and accidentally got rich in the process.

Trump being in office increases turnout for voters who don't like him, but Trump has to be on the ballot himself to increase turnout among his supporters? It's not that crazy, is it?

Once again, this is literally my point. Trump did more to help down-ballot races than hurt them. It's why Iowa was a possible flip for Dems, but Trump's over performance in Iowa (winning by almost 9%) helped Ernst gain a comfortable win, but still less than Trump (roughly 5-6%).

Yes, and Biden had an even bigger increase in votes compared to Obama. Trump is more popular with conservatives than any other Republican, but the increased turnout for his opponents more than cancels that out among the general population.

Yeah, that's my point. His argument is that "actually, Trump is less popular than Republicans" even though we literally saw how taking Trump off the ballot changed election results in 2018 and the two runoffs. In years where Trump was on the ballot, general GOP overperformed polling. In elections that he wasn't, polling was generally dead-on (remember polling showed Ossoff and Warnock leading heading into the runoffs).

Remember that the Dems had a 75% chance of taking the senate heading into 2020 and they didn't, and needed two runoffs just for a tie, and that Trump himself outperformed in potential flip opportunities (Florida) and even kept things close in states Biden needed to win to win the election (Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin).

So yeah, I don't buy the idea that GOP candidates are stronger than Trump.

Though you should also consider that Trump got a lower percentage of the vote than Mitt Romney, twice.

He got 14 million more votes than Romney. The fact alone that he led to a 25% increase in voter turnout for his party should give you an idea of how popular he was along conservatives.

And with that, I finishing Awakening in about 10 hours and I decided to clean up Witch Hunt which took an hour.

My general feelings are that Awakening is an amazing concept that needed to be bigger than a DLC, and unfortunately a lot of important plot points are rushed through in the final minutes of the game (like the Architect starting the most recent Blight, or who the fuck even is Utha). When I heard the DLC was supposedly 25 hours I felt like that was pretty good length and figured that even if I went through it a little faster than expected, I'd still be done in about 15 hours at the soonest. But to see stuff like saving Amaranthine take less than 20 minutes and quickly moving on to the final dungeon, it felt so... small. Like for all the knocks against DA2 for the lack of areas and reused dungeons, the game never felt as utterly small as Awakening did in key moments. Especially for such a grandiose idea (intelligent Darkspawn).

The Architect was great. The Mother, as horrifying as she was to look at, was pretty dull and I wish we had gotten more from her beyond the two cutscenes before the final encounter. I actually let the one disciple go which I think caused more problems than I expected (with him spreading the taint). Also, I left behind Anders, Oghren, and Justice at Vigil's Keep and for whatever reason the codex said they were dead (which made me think "uh oh, I've created a plot hole") but they showed up as alive in the epilogue.

But now I'm ready to start DA2. I'm thinking I'm gonna go with the single big-ass sword swinging warrior.

So it looks like I'm actually into the endgame only 9 hours into it, which honestly for DLC seems like just about the right length but at the same time considering it introduces so many characters, I feel like I've barely gotten to know any of them. Like I was introduced to the Architect a couple of hours into the game and haven't seen him since, and it seems like poor plot telling if we don't know who he is or his motivations so late into the game.

I really have no feelings on any of the characters, Justice seems like he could have been the most interesting but he's also literally the last character I recruited. The game did seem like it wanted me to get get Kristoff first.

Doesn't that technically mean having a disdain or hatred for women? If that's the case, wanting more female butt shots would not be misogynistic.

Misogyny (/msdni/) is the hatred of, contempt for, or prejudice against women or girls. It enforces sexism by punishing those who reject an inferior status for women and rewarding those who accept it. Misogyny manifests in numerous ways, including social exclusion, sex discrimination, hostility, androcentrism, patriarchy, male privilege, belittling of women, disenfranchisement of women, violence against women, and sexual objectification.
