Which isn't to say those all turned out to be masterpieces. But rather for being in the moment, those games being just announced was absolutely legendary.

Well if you played Shenmue 1 and 2 back in the day, you loved those games dearly. They end on a cliffhanger. When they announced they were finally making 3 fifteen years later, it was a pretty big deal.

I was so scared when I heard that Square was ruining FF7 that I ran home and put the game in my PS1 just to be sure. Turns out it's the same as it ever was.

It makes me so mad when the thing I like gets updated and they add more of the things I liked to it.

I posted a pic that shows a very small highlight of the advancement of video games compared to the original. The intention was to call out the pessimistic, whiny gamers who cant appreciate nuffin. They have come in droves.

It's not "Graphics = good game" It's a small example of the care and effort going into recreating something almost 30 years in the future, utilizing the technology available to build and flesh out these worlds. The environment being pretty is only a fraction of the story that image tells you. Being free to explore and inhabit a more believable world is just a very small example of the development that went into this game.

Y'all are literally the examples of the attitude this image is addressing lol. That snarky "gamer" mentality to just dismiss everything and be so negative and pessimistic.

I look at this image and think "Man, how fucking lucky are we. Look how far we've come. I can't wait to jump back into that world and see what everything looks like today."

I remember being in high school when Halo 3 came out. Went to the midnight launch of the game. Played it all night. My mom was a teacher at the school and in my first period in the afternoon in another class she made some excuse and pulled me out of class, knowing I was dog ass tired from playing all night lol. Agree to disagree here. Remake's lighting seems kinda "Flat" and washed out to me. Not necessarily bad, but Rebirth seems way better.

Reducing the image down to better graphics is hilarious. The first image is something I want to explore. This is a living vibrant world that feels very fleshed out and interesting. In that exploration I guarantee there are numerous things to discover and do. Also, selling the idea of the world feeling real and being immersed in it is so much more than just wow pretty graphics.

So it's like the WoW model you don't like, however what if you can put points into multiple disciplines?

Still meh to me. I would just play a different "mage" character like a warlock or a necromancer or something like that. The basic elemental mage where you only use one or two elements for your build bores me to tears.

If I'm going to specialize in schools of magic, I want those specializations to have enough variety in themselves to be interesting and engaging in a playthrough. Elder Scrolls is a really good example of this done well.

If your schools are just 3 different elements and I'm gonna be an ice mage all game that's boring as shit to me.
