Really shows how pointless scored reviews are

The new Lords of the Fallen was getting 7s due to performance issues at launch and then I played it and thought it was easily the best 3D Souls-like out there

Dragon's Dogma 2 is one of the most enjoyable RPG games in recent years. Combat is amazing, variety and depth of Vocations is impressive and boss battles are breathtaking. That being said, it suffers from some technical and structural issues. Story is shallow, side quests are somewhat underwhelming and frame rate drop is frequent. Nevertheless, Dragon's Dogma 2 is a must play for die hard fans of classic RPGs.

Dragons Dogma 2 feels like the first proper RPG Ive played in years. Its world is captivating, filled with stories both told and waiting to be found. This is a must-play for RPG fans whove grown tired of the hand-holding nature of modern games and just want to get lost somewhere magical and quite frankly, brutal as hell.

It can drop down into 30fps in cities when you have all graphic options set to max while running it at 4k.

If action role-playing games are something you are into, then Dragon's Dogma 2 is your next big game. It's that simple. You may have been thrown off by talk of the lack of fast travel. But the game's director Hideaki Itsuno, is right: a good game doesn't need it. Dragon's Dogma 2's world is covered with experiences to have. It could be a hidden cave, a simple treasure chest, or even a giant griffin that just wants to create chaos for you and your party of pawns. Combat is easy to understand, and different enough from vocation to vocation that when I get bored with one class, I can easily switch to try something different. It's not about the destination, but rather the journey. As silly as it sounds, Dragon's Dogma 2 is all about the friends we made along the way.

In a lot of ways, theres a great game buried under the surface of Dragons Dogma 2. All of the components should work together. Ive never played a game I was so frustrated with, but equally wanted to keep playing. For someone out there, I can guarantee this will be their favorite game ever. Im sure it checks a lot of boxes for a lot of people looking for something different. I was looking for something different too, but I just feel like there was too much in the way for me to truly enjoy it. Im still going to give it more time, Im willing to be wrong, but for now I cant help but feel disappointed.

Dragon's Dogma 2 is simply an unending, beautiful, open-world fantasy RPG, possibly one of this generation's most dynamic and extensive open-world RPGs. It's jam-packed with side quests and dynamic events, and the game's many locations provide ample opportunity for exploration and discovery of the new lore. If you are looking for a high-adrenaline, gratifying action role-playing game with a concentration on the battle, Dragon's Dogma 2 is just what you are looking for.

That sounds like a 6/10 lol. I'm sure it's a great game but reviewers seem to either give a 9 or a 10 or like a 3 if it's clearly a shit game.

Here are all of the reviews btw.

Seems like a pretty subjective game other than people occasionally bringing up performance issues.

Some say it isn't a big enough improvement from the first, some say it is a vast improvement. Some say it doesn't hold your hand enough, some say that is a good thing. Some say the story is weak, some say it is amazing. etc

Omfg it might be a great game for me. Controversial but still not a terrible score overall it must be the type of game that resonate with a fraction of people real well like omfg i hope I get same feelings!!

Idc about story and that stuff in games.

I'm hoping going sorc + 3 sorc pawns (or 2 sorc pawns + 1 mage pawn) is viable in this game like in the 1st. If not then I'll feel down

I'm thinking this might be one of the best reviews. Gives it a 8.8.

https://fextralife.com/dragons-dogma-2-review/

As a stoic and nuanced action rpg, Dragons Dogma 2 is the kind of game you must approach armed with determination and patience. This is by now very familiar to me, as I very much enjoy discovery and exploration of both world and mechanics. I am no stranger to obscure quest objectives, disappearing NPCs and uncertain checkpoints, but if you are looking for a straight forward and guided experience, this is not the game for you.

Having completed and loved the first game, I thought I was well prepared for whatever challenge the new mechanics may give me. What I was not prepared for was the fact that the world is so large, that a simple mistake or a small npc bug would mean my second hour of the game would be spent tediously running a very long way to a large town because the intended oxcart was lost to a bug. You may remember my humorous story about Jim from the beware pre-launch video? Well, it was that all over again in that I was very ill-prepared for such a long journey, already feeling the stamina exhaustion of all my stocked curatives, and of course it became nighttime and was promptly besieged by armies of skeletons that I was in no way of appropriate level to tackle. Welcome to Dragons Dogma 2!

This seems kind of expected tbh. The original was not a universally loved game, and it had a lot of jank. The people who like it really like it though.

The sequel seems like a similarly divisive experience that isnt for everyone

Performance is only part of the experience.

Lots of games have some performance issues here and there but it doesn't take away from the experience, at least for me.

Then again I'm someone who doesn't GAF about 30 vs 60 FPS unless it impacts some multiplayer competitive type modes.

I personally dont care about fps.

Dragons Dogma 1 was such a fun game that I will immediately buy the second.

Performance only matters as much as graphics. Were at a point where I dont care to have the best since the baseline is still really good.

Sounds a lot like Dragon's Dogma 1; story and plot kind of barebones but amazing combat. Sure, the plot was kind of artsy and had a few wild twists, but pretty simple.

Original took a pretty long time to achieve cult status but like everything new followup entry to an IP these days, there's a group outside of that circle who want to piggyback on the popularity and shit on it for clout points.

I'll just wait for Digital Foundry's take on the whole technical problems.
