I think my answer here are console games including a co-op mode without having an option for splitscreen. You have to play with other people who have separate consoles and separate online subscriptions.

Drastically reduces the playerbase and effectively kills the co-op modes when everyone moves on to other games (so, like, 6 months after release at best for most games).

Obviously lots of the AAA titles are getting too complex and taking up too much of the console's power to try to run it twice on the system, but in that case IMO just cut the co-op mode if you can't run splitscreen.

basically, none of the smash games have the same physics. at all.

obviously there's some similarities - for example ledgehogging was shared by the first three, ledgetrumping is now in the last two. but if you look at the full systems compared to one another, they're all wildly different.

I think 64 is like... slightly more floaty/slow Ultimate if memory serves. Which is what I prefer most.

it is definitely not. go watch competitive 64 play. you take so much stun on every hit that you can pull off combos that make absolutely no sense. this physics piece alone makes 64 below ultimate and 4.

As for Ultimate, the Balloon Knockback is not my favorite thing in the world, but it's not the worst thing either. LSI is a little silly. Otherwise, everything else is best in the series IMO.

I've always thought that for sure the idols have their personal lives controlled too much, but slave labor always seemed silly to me. They're worked pretty hard, but they signed a contract to work in that way for X amount of time.

I suppose I assumed the agencies usually act morally, which is not the case.

It's gotta be The Last of Us or the new God of War for me.

I think The Last of Us showed me just how far a game can go to tell a story and discuss themes rather than just have a plot. Also the multiplayer in it is probably one of the top 3 multiplayers I've ever played.

The new God of War does something very similar with its story in that it tackled some pretty meaningful stuff, but it did that slightly less effectively than The Last of Us. On the other hand, it has the bonus of being a spectacle and having a far more complex story to the point where the amount of stuff they wove into the narrative while keeping it all coherent is astonishing.

EDIT: Or actually higher. Listening to it now and it's pretty damn good.

EDIT 2: Also, I forgot to make a note that Spotify's version of Don't by Hwasa/Loco is lame because it doesn't have the ending where they're both going. It's just Hwasa over and over going "I don't care who you are don't make me cry." So much cooler when Loco is rapping behind her. Really feels like an ending rather than a fade-out that way.

I can't hate BTS tbh. They're just cool dudes living the dream. But on that note, I'm also not a big fan of most of their music. Idol was exceptionally weak to me. I think the only song I actively like by them is dimple, and I still have a big issue with the lyric "So I call you illegirl"

1. Blackpink - Ddu-du Ddu-du
Idk, this song is garbage to me. I kinda cringe when I hear it. Have never made it all the way through the song. Seeing cutesy kpop girls try to say savage and hold up gun signs really got me. I pretty much despised the whole Blackpink mini album but of course this was the most notable song and kinda the only one I remember.

2. AOA - Parfait
They went full on cutesy with this song and I absolutely hated it. Don't know if I've even made it a minute into this song. It's not actively offensive I suppose but it's pretty close. Whoever wrote this needs to be kept off all future releases.

3. BTS - Idol
I did make it all the way through this one, and while I guess I admire their energy, it's just not actually a good song. It's noise to me.

Mamamoo released a lot of music this year. I think Mamamoo is really talented but they release a lot of stuff that is just good enough. Not a whole lot that really blows me away. It's a shame because Melting has like 5 tracks that are fantastic and another 2 or 3 that are also pretty good. Most of the stuff on Memory was pretty good too. They're capable of doing better.

I think I like listening to Hwasa more than I like watching her. And that's saying quite a bit, because she's incredibly attractive, but sometimes her stage antics get on my nerves. Either way, she's had a standout year for sure, and the two songs she did without her other members surpassed anything the group did.

Eyedi had solid releases all the way around this year, but Pumpkin's favorite was my least favorite and the only one that didn't make my playlist. Still not a bad song, just not great IMO.

Heize snuck on there - hadn't heard of her before I heard Jenga maybe a month ago (at most) and then I just heard the rest of her stuff a week ago. She's really good.

AOA's Bingle Bangle release was mostly not good, but HEAT was pretty fantastic! It's the lone standout track from the mini-album. Their vocals are definitely missing Choa a bit, but what really hurt them was the songwriting quality. The melodies were pretty boring, the lyrics were pretty worthless, and it seems like their writers had a thing for nonsense and rhyming with their hooks. Bingle Bangle, Super Duper, Ladi Dadi, DoDoDo... all on the same album. It's like they didn't even try to hide it!

It's been a year without Subin and Girl's Day, plus Bestie is definitively done and Dal Shabet may as well be (there's the whole situation where they claim that they'll still do stuff together but realistically that's not gonna happen). I guess we're expecting Subin to do something in 2019. I'm kinda afraid she's gonna release a new song under her alter ego Nikita (which is just... I like Subin but it's pretty weird). As long as it's good I guess?

IMO overt characters are overrated

they've been trying to force one on Dean Ambrose for quite some time now but he'd be way better if they just let him be the personality that he naturally leans towards. instead they try to make a caricature of that and then feed him scripts of that caricature.

as long as you've got a solid personality and you work good in the ring, it works for me

Idk, I think you should've done this anyways. In no way is that being an asshole. If you want a case that's not busted then that's entirely reasonable. It's an improvement over Smash 4 on the competitive side of things, but still needs a considerable amount of balancing.

I hear the single player stuff is pretty expansive so that's cool.

Not a fan of some of the visual changes. The smoke when you take knockback is bad. Lots of the animations are pretty choppy - Smash 4 looked smoother. But it's just a style that they went for, not necessarily a failure of the animators.

Competitive player who has won a few locals to set the record straight. Falco can get back to the ledge just fine, but recovery IMO is way more than that.

Recovery is also how easy it is for you to get hit once you land on the stage (if you decide to go to the stage instead of the ledge). Recovery is how easy it is to intercept your up b/side b/whatever other moves a character uses to make it back to stage. Recovery is your ability to fight your way off the ledge, onto the ground, and out of the corner.

Falco's recovery is bad. His slow air drift means he relies on a very easily intercepted side b and up b to make it back. A lot of the time, he can still make it back to the stage with these moves, but even if he makes it to the ledge, his bad ground speed and air drift means he can't escape the corner very easily. Opponents often outspeed him so no matter what option he chooses he can't reposition himself into center stage well. If he tries to side b above opponent's heads to get back on the stage, he doesn't travel far enough to escape their punish option, and even when he lands he has a lot of lag where he's ultra vulnerable to a punish.

"Worst in the game" status is kinda reserved for characters like Mac, Incineroar, arguably Chrom, and arguably Kirby. But Falco's recovery is definitely bad.

I can play guitar at a pretty advanced level, and I'm pretty good at bass guitar and drums. I'm a beginner at piano but I can find and play chords decently well.

As a choir teacher once said to me when I was in elementary school, "point to your throat! That's your instrument! Your voice is an instrument too!" I sing so I suppose that makes me a throat player too

I really do not like the recent trend of games having online only multiplayer. ESPECIALLY for co-op modes. Being able to play local with communication is crucial for co-op multiplayer modes but so many games recently have just axed that option. Gotta play it online with each individual player having their own system (and on consoles, each player also must have paid online subscriptions to connect).

I believe they don't implement local multiplayer because doing splitscreen is really taxing on a system, but I still wish they could find a way to put it in the game regardless.

How they use Moonbyul's singing is always so interesting to me. Her spot near the end of the chorus is the highlight of the song for me, and she's fantastic on the side tracks.

You need to learn how to play the neutral game, how to punish your opponent when you find an opening (not just the initial combo, but any extended juggle after that), how to recover from disadvantage (off-stage, above your opponent, or in a tech situation), how to best space your moves, and how to play mind games.

A lot of this comes with experience.

Also, know the game's mechanics. Knowing how airdodges work, DI, sDI, RCO Lag, ledgetrumping (and any other ledge specifics), and shield mechanics will help you in a lot of important ways.
