As for the "sense of purpose", you know what could do that? The Green New Deal; rebuilding America to deal with inevitable climate change. He's going to be spending the next 4 years doing exactly what he did as President (tweeting stupidity and holding rallies) without any of the responsibilities. And the media is going to lap it up ("Biden does Thing X, former President Trump tweets 'Thing X is disasterous and would never have been done under his administration'"). So he's going to remain in the public eye in a way most other recent former Presidents have not. Having said that, I wouldn't feel confident about him winning the general election. But with Republicans spending the next 4 years obstructing any and everything...you just never know. I know deadnaming can be a sensitive thing for transgender people, so I wondered if that was really the best approach. I know I'm not as strong as you -- when I started in the gym, my lifting goals were simply not to be upstaged by the girls who were basically just squatting the bar -- but prior to coronavirus I think I was at .75x bench, 1.25x squat, and 1.75x deadlift. Right now, I'd like to just see if I could get back toward those numbers. Of course, those numbers were on good days, and I have to remind myself of that, too. My goals are aspirational. What I'm ABLE to do is short of that goal. I go to the gym and I read topics like this and there's ALWAYS someone who makes me feel like a weakling. So I try to use them as inspiration, especially if they're around my size/weight. In the end, you have to judge your progress against yourself not the guy a foot taller who's repping 4 plates per side. I'm also not looking to set personal bests and kill myself every time I go to the gym. I tried that for a while, always trying to do more weight every session, and I ended up just hating myself (and sometimes hurting myself). Now, I have a detailed plan and regiment that I follow to make sure that I don't burn myself out. Look up Wender 5-3-1, which I supplement with Boring But Big to get some volume. It's designed for long term gains over the course of years. Each session has only 1 maximal effort set that you build towards, so I don't get mentally fatigued. I'm not really cut out for a full workout right now but doing a couple push-ups or something is fine. It helps to have goals for yourself, both long and short term. My long term goal is to be able to bench 1.5x my body weight, squat 2.0x, and deadlift 2.5x. Will I ever reach that goal? Now some might call Hogan a RINO but from my perspective he seems to have done a pretty good job of generally being a decent governor in a neighboring state that is definitely more blue. A wacko right winger or someone like Tommy Tuberville is NOT winning in VA like they could in more deep south states. But put up the current democrat Lt Gov Justin Fairfax (who's had some controversies) against a sensible candidate who happens to have an R next to their name? Family wants to travel down to them...after calling me up that a family friend was in the hospital the other day and had Covid-like symptoms. They're still waiting on test results but that person has pre-existing conditions and has been in/out of the hospital for a number of non-Covid issues. Last time they saw the possibly sick person was Sunday. Told them they need to be in quarantine, which I know isn't going to happen because they have school age kids and people that can't work from home and won't take off. Plus, I know they'd lie/bend the truth about what they're doing anyway so "we can all spend the holiday together". Anyone else wear a mask while lifting? After trying a few options, I found a mask that doesn't suck into my nose/mouth when breathing heavy.
