If you sat them down and asked them a hypothetical based on the concept, they'd probably answer more or less rationally. Especially if you talked them through it a bit. Thing is, to millions and millions of people, "evolution" is a broad category of ideas that they don't know are distinct from each other, including abiogenesis and the extrapolation of evolution backwards for millions/billions of years. |
