I'd do it. It's not much different than someone holding a gun to your head telling you to execute someone else. I have no particular control over the situation, and unless I love the person I'm set to kill, there's no way I'd value their life over mine. If I won, I'd surly have PTSD over it for the rest of my life though.

If it costs 10 billion and saves 1 billion, then it would be pointless.

What profit can you see a border wall making that wouldn't be swallowed right back up in maintenance costs, the costs of labor and the price of getting the land on which to build it in the first place?

It doesn't need to make a profit. It needs to do its job while not being overly burdensome to the country. If we're spending a large amount of money dealing with illegal immigrants and it can heavily reduce that cost, that is a good thing. If it still costs something on top of that, it's not a problem so long as it's not more than 30%-50% more than the cost of illegals. If it does nothing to curb the problem and costs ten times what we spend on illegals to upkeep, then it's worthless.

It's basically if the market decides that they don't want a bunch of pandering bunk, the product will fail/not do as well as it could have if it had just been normal. It's not the simple act of including something that can be described as "diverse", but the act of shoving it down people's throats, backlash against fans if it fails to actually fit the original narrative, and simply choosing virtue signalling regardless of how people view it. It's when they are pandering to a non-existent audience that it really shows, like the failure of a lot of the Marvel comics. It's also a factor in marketing as well like the female Ghost Busters. Having an all female cast isn't pandering, but the way they marketed it and blamed the poor reception of the movie on people hating women is the bad part. If it had been a superbly funny movie, then people would not have cared at all.

There are people who instantly react negatively to any instance of the most subtle inclusion of anything out of their "comfort zone", but they're the fringe minority of the opposite spectrum.

I'm sure men touching their asses was harassment if they declined to dance with everyone, but conflating every single touch to groping is stupid. There are a large number of ways to touch someone's arm or back without being sexual. There are ways to point out disgusting things without going overboard for the sake of a better headline. It depends entirely on where you live, who you interact with, and what media you consume. If you learn French, live in the middle of nowhere in the US, never plan on traveling to France, know no French people, and consume no French media, then you'll never use it.
