I turn off voice chat in any online game by default. I've heard enough:

It's a shame, because Splatoon 2's and Mario Kart 8's have decent online.

It seems like their point is to insure good connections, but I'd rather have an "eh" connection in a match I actually want to play over something I don't want to play.
