Finished the game just shy of 42 hours. That's it for gaming binge for now... though the "FF8 using GFs only" challenge is up next. Though that's probably a Christmas break binge...

Sidebar, I've unlocked the Calculator class! Multiple people have mentioned this being a great class, so I try it on a random battle and... oh god it's so slow. It's so slow and you can barely move and how does the Math skill even work, it's not really explained.

lol!! It can't be TOO good, the speed is the downside. It's best as the secondary ability on a Wizard, yeah... that's why I did my grinding in a single battle to max it out, jacking everyone's Speed up with Yell & Speed Breaking the enemy down to 1. That was my Wednesday night, I think? As tedious as it was, never had to worry about it again. Though Calculators really are so broken...

I think if you hit Select it'll explain a bit better what the class entails/how to use it? Otherwise I'm sure one of us can explain it.

Also:

Nobody's wants you to be King!

Another line that made me lol.

After looking at the local rumours we get access to what appears to be a new side-area, so I'll probably go here before continuing with the plot.

If you're referring to Nevelska something-or-other, don't worry about it showing as a red dot but not triggering a battle... more sidequesting needs to be done before you can follow through on that (something I learned myself yesterday & followed through on today).

I remembered the game's story beats from the first 3 chapters pretty clearly but wow, I forgot a lot of what happened in Chapter 4, including the fight with Delita joining as a guest. Which was great.

Zalmo: hey aren't you Delita

Delita: since you saw me, now you must die!

I lol'd.

I'm almost done swimming in dopamine from my gaming binge here, game file just passed 37 hours when I finished for the day. Also just realized those 37 hours don't include all the times I died... including 3 times against Wiegraf and cheesing to get through 4th. Some things never change.

Anyways, from my googling it looks like I did all the (non-WotL) optional stuff except for Deep Dungeon so I guess it's that and finishing the game tomorrow. And then it'll be time to catch up on the workload hell waiting for me for daring to take vacation time...

Looking forward to reading andy's ongoing updates now that I remember what actually happens, hahaha...

I proceeded with my maximum cheese method on Queklain:

-gained my Calculator class for the 2 characters I was aiming for just before his fight + needed to level up Mediator to get Bard
-Two-Sworded Speed Break (plus a regular Speed Break) getting him to minimum speed

...I may have gone a little too crazy, let's just say I'm starting chapter 3 off with maxed Math Skill as the secondary ability for each of them, and this is also the first time I've used the Bard class, very exciting. Though I kind of regret setting up both my female units down the Calculator path rather than setting one up as a Dancer, eh... probably gonna get started on that for one of them tomorrow.

Got home from vacation, played FFT 6 hours. I recently watched a speedrun that took 6 hours to complete and I couldn't even get to Fort Zeakden. Though I spent way too much time on random battles and JP grinding, man it's fun. I'm going for classes I never used before, gonna be fun.

Now fueled by a big breakfast (including 2 large coffees), gonna try to fit in a solid 10 to 12 hours today. Vacations are great, lol...

The castle gate fight is the one I most clearly remember, but I also remember:

-having a certain support ability on everybody which makes it a joke...
-getting Blood Sword from Gaff's crystal (I think you can steal it from him too)

I forgot the Queklain fight happened right after that one, but I'm pretty sure that was my first lesson in save-to-another-save-file for sure, hahaha...

Keep getting those shivers because the save-prompting isn't over yet...!

(I'll be playing the game in under 24 hours so I'm very excited...Squall won but Delita leapfrogs him on the game replay list all thanks to andy!)

Gonna have to blitz through the game when I get home to catch up to andy, hahaha...

One question for andy or anyone else: does the game utilize the joystick at all or was it just the d-pad? Going to play my greatest hits version on PS3 and I just remembered my PS3 controller had joystick drift so just wondering, but I probably should buy a new one anyways... assuming PS3 controllers are still sold, oh geez. I got a wired backup in any case but once you go wireless...

Yeah!!

iirc Don't Move is literally, you can perform actions but the impacted unit won't be able to move off of the square they occupy. Stop straight up stops them from referring any actions.

I forgot about Don't Move but it definitely neuters enemies who don't have long range attacks, and pretty sure it has a much better chance of landing than Stop does... just another reason Time Mages are great!

Is anyone other than me going to be pushing for one of these to return next year?

I love Shuyin redemption but Gabranth being in last place if/when it succeeds feels bad. I hope someone noms in Vaan like Genny was planning to this year, just so he does get booted asap. Of course knowing our luck he'll pull a Penelo...

oh martin what was your rank

I don't think I saw you post it

Yeah I didn't, but might as well.

Tifa
Aerith
Barret
Squall
Kefka
Garnet
Seymour
Delita
Celes
Tidus
Cecil
Emet-Selch
Yuffie
Red XIII
Edea

Clear top 3 FF7, then Squall through Delita is my "characters I like" tier, then Celes through Emet-Selch is my "indifference" tier, then we have the bottom 3.

Bonus Martin list: preference ranking the 18 FF7 characters from this contest (subject to whims of change at any moment but I think this is how it presently is...)

Tifa Lockhart
Jessie Rasberry
Aerith Gainsborough
Cissnei
Sephiroth
Cloud Strife
Barret Wallace
Cid Highwind
Vincent Valentine
Reno
Zack Fair
Elena
Rufus Shinra
Cait Sith
Genesis Rhapsodos
Dark Nation
Red XIII
Yuffie Kisaragi

Congrats to Red XIII for jumping above Yuffie in my contest-saving opinion.

Despite all the mistakes and regrets I had this contest - accidentally saving Cid P instead of Cid H, purposefully saving Penelo instead of Cissnei, not holding on Day 11 where if I did Zidane would've likely been hard booted, having to choose between Tifa and Sephiroth Day 21 and choosing wrong (or just not holding a bit longer to see if one or the other got a save) - my biggest regret is not saving Vincent over Yuffie on Day 17.

Rather than choosing the obviously better character, even if he'd probably just be eliminated the very next day, I went with the character that had a "better chance" to go deeper in the contest. And she sure did.

But there are so many better FF7 characters that deserve to make deep runs and it's always disappointing that she's the top FF7 character, at least stats-wise. Always the one that endures, "teflon Yuffie". Every round she was hanging around was just that much more frustrating, at a time when Tifa was barely scraping by and Aerith got lawyered, there was Yuffie surviving, again. It was really starting to bother me, at least she didn't make the top 10.

I saved her plenty last year but after this year she just dropped like a rock completely for me. I'm sure she'll get right back to the top 20 next year too, at the expense of better characters, and it'll still be disappointing.

In any case, lesson learned: don't do the snipe if you can't handle the consequences.

Hey Martin, I am glad to be a best match with people
But what does that mean
Sorry for being dumb

No worries. Every user's list is compared against every other user's list, and by compared I mean their character ranks are subtracted against one another. So if you have Garnet #1 and I have her #6, we have a difference of 5 for her. This comparison gets done for all 15 characters. Then the "standard deviation" is taken on all 15 of the character difference numbers (as I mentioned before, not even sure this is the right formula to use in this case but whatever, that's how it was done) to arrive at a single number.

So when you're the "best match" for a user that means, out of the other 45 participants excluding themself, your list produced the lowest standard deviation when compared against their list, hence, best match.

I don't know what it means. i like to think it means you have a good list!

Big Squall and Seymour differences but lots of smaller numbers, not as many 0/1/2 with charon and Ark and that makes the difference in the end.

huh, bit surprised Drak didn't end up my least compatible. i know we have opposite opinions on at least 4 characters, but i guess agreeing on Yuffie and Seymour was enough? Mewtwo and i must really disagree about everything other than Kefka and Barret in that top 15.

for most compatible seeing Tangy felt a bit weird because it seemed like he was saving characters i dislike for most of the contest, but it does makes sense just for top 15 having the same #1 and 2 and knowing nothing else. lhg does as well but i know he likes Seymour. i was kinda expecting Yankees since we have similar tastes in general and were always on the same character once Celes went out, and i also have her ranked high.

Yankees didn't submit a list.

You had some big difference with Drakeryn but you also had 4 differences of 1 placement & 4 differences of 2 placements so that helped temper things. With Mewtwo you had four double-digits, despite being 1 off on Kefka. Just a bit more mismatched.

With BetrayedTangy, you had 10 place difference on Tidus and 6 on Seymour but everything else was super low:

3 spots on Squall and Edea
2 on Barret and Yuffie
1 on Kefka, Tifa, Celes, Cecil, Garnet, Emet, Red XIII and Delita (!!!)
And exact same on Aerith

More than half your lists only 1 place off each other, it really adds up!

Honestly if you have like, 3 FF7 characters in your top five in some order Eddv's probably your worst match

Pretty much how the "worst matchup" between Eddv and Snake plays out. Not posting lists but, let's just say they had 5 matches which were a double digit difference, and all but 1 rank had a difference of 4 or more (though that 1 placement was a 0)

As for the next-worst matchup, Luis_Sera and Moonroof:

Complete inversion on Emet-Selch, 13 spots on Tidus, 11 spots on Edea, 9 on Celes, Squall and Seymour. Best fits are Aerith and Kefka at 2 spots off but too much difference!

  • Red XIII was a difference of 5 (shouldn't have put him #1!!)
  • Celes, Kefka, Aerith 4
  • Tifa, Yuffie 3
  • Tidus 2
  • Barret, Delita, Emet 1
  • Squall, Seymour, Garnet, Edea exact same place

No difference greater than 5 and a lot of 0s or 1s is what it takes to be the best!

Looking at GMUN and mnkboy:

  • Red XIII difference of 5 (again!)
  • Emet, Tifa 4
  • Delita, Aerith, Garnet, Tidus 3
  • Celes, Kefka 2
  • Seymour 1
  • Edea, Yuffie, Squall, Barret and Cecil all exact matches, damn...

More 0s, but more 3s, ends up with the same standard deviation as the Bane/MZero match I guess!

Alright, here's the compatibility stats for all 46 participants. First is the username, best match, worst match. In brackets is the standard deviation of the different between your matches and their matches. I don't remember what standard deviation represents, read about it on wikipedia, who knows if it's even applicable in this case but thats how it's done.

Note that "best matches" don't always go the same way. So for example my best match was with captaincanadian, but captain's was with Nanis (and Nanis with captain), so they were just... that much more closely aligned!

For the "best matches", less than 3 is really terrific, 3 to 3.6 rounds up the upper half, and the rest are lower half. There's a couple of "best matches" below 5 which, well, no really good matches out there...?

For "worst matches", a standard deviation of 7.9 is about the halfway point. 7.101 is the least "worst" match, which was my match with Drakeryn, which I think proves I have the best taste by being the least "off" from everyone else...?

There are 4 users (2 pairs) who tied for "best match" and I'll be commenting on them separately to this post, later on; also going to comment on the worst & second-worst matches too.

Generally speaking, 29 of the 46 participants were someone's "best" match, with Nanis, Great_Paul, Steiner, GMUN and Maniac64 leading the way with being the "best" match for 3 users each.

Conversely, 25 of the 46 participants were someone's "worst" match, with Eddv domnating as the "worst" matchup for 8 (!!) different users, with Drakeryn and Luis_Sera following up with 4 each.

So here's the stats and I've bolded the 2 pairs of the best and the 2 pairs of the worst:

I had always hoped for a Squall win (he was my #4 behind Tifa, Aerith and Barret), and I like when a long-suffering character with past close calls finally gets their win. Lightning last year, Squall this year and - though I wasn't around for it - Cloud in XIX all fit that bill.

Maybe next year really could be Kefka's year...

And for our three "winners", Janus, VI and FFDragon, here's how their average ratings went along the way, starting with the 8.00 average at 15 characters left before ending up at 2.5 with 2 characters left:

FFD taking a hit with the Kefka elimination while VI and Janus had a bounce-up following Barret's, but they all converged towards the end (Janus suffering one last uptick from the terrible Tifa elimination)

Okay now I need to figure out how to get the compatibility stats captured without taking screenshots.... that'll be later today I guess.

Ok, last round of stats for the day on the subject of new entrants & re-entrants, this was the final tally for this year's 25, relative to each of the past two contests. Started badly compared to last year, equalized past the midway point, and then pretty well fell apart after the top 25. Of course it's tough to compete with two straight years of 2nd and 3rd place.

New characters did dominate, as Emet-Selch's 12th place did top Goffard's 13th and X-ATM's 41st finishes for best placement of a brand new contest character; Judgemaster Cid and Dark Nation putting 3 newbies in the top 20 and 6 in the top 40, which really puts X-ATM092 to shame...

Also can't really do comparisons next year if we have a class of 28 instead of 25... but maybe we will anyways!

And a reminder for next year, in case you want to get those predictive juices flowing:

Last year's hard boots:

86. Adelle
87. Snow Villiers
88. Balthier
89. Chocolina
90. Isaaru
91. Wakka
92. Selphie Tilmitt
93. Noctis Lucis Caelum
94. Umaro
95. Yuna
96. Cyan Garamonde
97. Chocobo
98. Cindy Aurum
99. Hope Estheim
100. Fran

This year's soft boots:

76. Seifer Almasy
77. Gaius van Baelsar
78. Larsa Ferrinas Solidor
79. Terra Branford
80. Sephiroth
81. Reno
82. Laguna Loire
83. Edward Chris von Muir
84. Vincent Valentine
85. Cidolfus Orlandeau

And lastly (and really unrelated to the above but might as well throw this here too), the series dominance stats returned from a previous bonus stats day, now with:
  • The "largest representation" corrected for contest XIII (treating TA separate from T)
  • This contest's numbers being filled in (FF7 having the strongest series representation outside the top 10 ever, besting a 4/11 shared by FF6 in contests III and VI and FF9 in contest VII, yay...), and
  • Games now colour-coordinated. No colour for ties... I'm not dealing with colour gradients here.

.... ok all I have left are "Martin's Top 7 Regrets of SMFFFC XXII" and compatibility stats... maybe I'll skip the former and go right to the latter, tomorrow...

A very unenthusiastic push! Really just hoping there's something I still want to support when he's eliminated, the goal for him is just top 20, though that was the Tifa goal at the outset too...

Get the Kefka win next year, then we recreate the Tifa run ;(

Because having 6 characters in the top 20 is a failure (or 7 in the top 22)

Again, everyone is completely disconnected. FF7 can always dominate stats because you have 2 or more people on each character, completely siloed. You can look at any character elimination and see how the backers didn't stay "within the series", there's very few users like that. The best opportunity for consolidation was Aerith, because you could see that literally every one of her backers went to a non-7 character.

So....... Justice for Aerith?

VeryInsane posted...
Remake Boost Seph was this year

and it... didn't quite go so well. >_>

I still say & believe that Sephiroth was a remake deboost.

I feel obligated to main him next year but I'm not feeling too enthused about it. I'll replay Crisis Core beforehand, I guess.

I just can't see an FF7 character winning and I don't know how it happened in XIX, MWC you have to explain how you guys pulled that off, considering best 7 placements the past 3 years: 4th, 6th, 4th... definitely can't see Sephiroth winning, though he did get 3rd in recent history? I guess anything's possible.

Anyways, this reminds me of something else I wanted to post about in the results topic: what I posted in last year's results topic, when we were talking about our hopes or dreams for next year.

The Squall run worked out, Seifer was a non-entity (probably for the best), we got the deep Garnet run I was hoping for, top 5 Seymour... lots of nice stories this year. Kefka ran into an unfortunate end... Tifa backed up her look with really astounding character development & battle prowess beyond what I ever expected, and was close but no cigar.

And yeah, Sephiroth, fuck. Every year I've been here it's been one misfortune after another with him. Maybe next year.

Anyone want to make any hot takes for next year so they can claim credit?
Now that Squall got a win, can people really coalesce behind Kefka?
Are we really going to get a Selphie redemption run?
Will YRP actually be a force?
Are we ready for "Yes, rich Ramza"?

I take solace in Garnet being #3 so I don't really feel bad
I am just a little disappointed we were two spots away from the perfect finals I wanted (Garnet/Tifa)
So close

You reminded me of another stat opportunity:

average character rankings:

Aerith - 5.65
Kefka - 6.09
Tifa - 6.39
Barret - 7.02
Squall - 7.09
Yuffie - 7.54
Red XIII - 7.76
Garnet - 7.93
Celes - 7.96
Tidus - 8.11
Cecil - 8.52
Seymour - 8.59
Delita - 8.91
Emet - 11.09
Edea - 11.35

I was genuinely surprised to see Aerith in 1st place, since Kefka was a far-and-away 1st place in last year's rankings. Tifa in 3rd was also nice to see. Delita being that low was surprising but I guess he suffered a bit like Emet, of people who just haven't played his game (but Tactics is really great and everyone should play it).

Going one step further: if we exclusively look at everyone's #1 ranks and everyone's #15 (keeping in mind n=46)

NUMBER ONE PREFERRED RANKING
Seymour: 5
Tifa: 5
Tidus: 5
Aerith: 4
Kefka: 4
Garnet: 4
Barret: 3
Delita: 3
Red XIII: 3
Emet: 2
Yuffie: 2
Squall: 2
Celes: 2
Cecil: 1
Edea: 1

All 15 characters show up on at least one person's list. Seymour and Tifa crews coming out strong; victorious Squall #1 shared by Janus and pjbasis.

NUMBER FIFTEEN PREFERRED RANKING
Edea: 16
Tidus: 5
Seymour: 4
Emet: 4
Yuffie: 3
Celes: 3
Kefka: 3
Squall: 2
Delita: 2
Cecil: 2
Tifa: 1
Garnet: 1
Aerith: 0
Barret: 0
Red XIII: 0

-Tidus and Seymour, tying for most #1s, end up 2nd and 3rd on the most #15s lists
-No surprise who's tops of this list
-***ALERT, ALERT*** GuessMyUserName IS THE USER WITH TIFA RANKED #15, PLEASE MAKE A NOTE OF TERRIBLE OPINIONS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE ***ALERT, ALERT***
-Aerith, Barret and Red XIII have the privilege of no #15 rankings

So if we come up with my completely arbitrary "net absolute preference score", the sum of #1 placements minus the sum of #15 placements:

Aerith: 4
Tifa: 4
Barret: 3
Garnet: 3
Red XIII: 3
Delita: 1
Kefka: 1
Seymour: 1
Squall: 0
Tidus: 0
Cecil: -1
Celes: -1
Yuffie: -1
Emet: -2
Edea: -15

Aerith and Tifa tied as top #1 minus #15 ranked characters. You love to see it.

See, that's what you get for ranking with your heart (Red XIII in 1st) instead of... uh... your true heart (like you posted the other day, Squall was always your true #1!)

Though I did notice when you said your opinion of Delita changed since the initial ranking, and there was a missed opportunity on my end to solicit updated top 15 rankings from people, but I just didn't have the time, or really the desire after Day 97 (and 98 led right into the finals). Uh, we're over 3 pages down and I haven't posted any stats yet and I have so many, gotta start rolling here.

First, I wanted to thank everybody who submitted a top 15 list, now we get the payoff.

TOP 15 PREFERENCE RANKING STATS!
(n=46)

Best finals outcome: tied between Janus, FFDragon and VeryInsane (1 vs. 4)

Worst finals outcome: Nanis (13 vs. 15)

Widest variance: TheArkOfTurus (1 vs. 14)

Narrowest variance: Arti, GMUN, Inviso, Lopen and TotallyNotMI all had Delita and Squall next to each other in their rankings

(For comparisons to last year: best was 1 vs. 6 and worst was 12 vs. 15, so a little better and a little worse respectively this year. The widest variance had been 1 vs. 15, and the narrowest was only one user, Lopen; he had 4 other users joining him this year but once again was narrow (albeit a 3 vs. 4 this time instead of 5 vs. 6 last year!)

The average preference rating of finals participants, if you would believe it, was exactly 8.00. Keep in mind that the overall average in a 1 through 15 ranking is 8 so we hit the exact average (and an improvement over last year's finals average which was an 8.42, which I considered to be "a little below average" but really was uh, way below). Nicely done, everybody.

Janus - 2.5
FFDragon - 2.5
VeryInsane - 2.5
Lopen - 3.5
ecksgem - 4
Lea - 4
Maniac64 - 4.5
illuminatusbubu - 5
GMUN - 5.5
v_charon - 5.5
Eddv - 6
Martin - 6
andy - 6
Mewtwo - 7
Drakeryn - 7
mnkboy - 7
pjbasis - 7
Robazoid - 7
Steiner - 7.5
Mzero - 7.5
Moonroof - 7.5
swordz - 7.5
TheArkOfTurus - 7.5
Bane - 8
RaidenGarai - 8
Zigzagoon - 8
BetrayedTangy - 8.5
Inviso - 8.5
Luis_Sera89 - 9
captaincanadian - 9.5
yellowwolley - 9.5
Snake5555555555 - 10
guffguy89 - 10
Fbike - 10
Xuxon - 10.5
StifledSilence - 10.5
linkhatesganon - 10.5
PrinceKaro - 10.5
Denzokuken - 11
TotallyNotMI - 11.5
KommunistKoala - 11.5
Great_Paul - 11.5
Arti - 12.5
tennisboy213 - 12.5
VengefulKaelee - 12.5
Nanis - 14

How about some BONUS STATS!!! All 25 who participated last year participated again this year, so we can see some YOY stats. In addition to this & last year's average finals ratings, I've provided two sets of numbers: one, the percentage point change in your finals preference average since last year; and secondly, adding together your average from both years to see how people are doing cumulatively. The data is sorted on the last ("sum") column ascending; blue indicates a best score, green a worst score.

So we can see Steiner had a marked improvement over his disastrous finals last year but the real YOY winner was VeryInsane, with his average jumping 9 points to 2.5. MZero is the biggest YOY drop, albeit only 4 percentage points, which makes sense considering he tied for the best average last year. In fact, of the 25 who participated last year, only 8 had a lower average this year than last, and 3 of those 8 were the winners from last year. So, gotta say it was a good year.

I should also point out yours truly, Martin"True Neutral"FF7, who stayed pat with a 6 rating last year (1 vs. 11) and a 6 rating this year (4 vs. 8). Can't really complain I guess!

The big winner appears to be the wonderful Lea who, somehow, has lucked into preferred finals each of the past two years, with a 1 vs. 6 and a 2 vs. 6. Watch out for whoever her #6 most preferred is at the top 15 next year, I guess!

And conversely, the combined worst over the past two years was VengefulKaelee; she didn't have the "least preferred" final in either year but collectively, the score of 23.5 (when the maximum possible worst two-year score is 29) is just... really rough. Of the 4 finalists in the last 2 years, not one of them was ranked outside the double digits. Maybe next year's the year!!

Thanks again to everybody who participated, I got even more stats coming including COMPATIBILITY STATS but those are gonna take a huge honkin' amount of space so will hold those for later.

I can't speak for everyone else v_charon, but I'm sitting at my computer with an autorefresher on one screen. You know how stupid I am about this. People like that are just going to be sitting at their computer an extra x hours a day if you expand the start window.

You're also wrong because there were very few rounds where it mattered who got in early, you see the same names at the end because they're the ones holding to try and snipe. The vast majority of rounds had final hours lasting more than 3 minutes, more than enough time for the discord ping to get through. Timing matters pre-FoG, it matters where H4's available, it matters in the last few days, and it matters for a few rounds in the midgame - more midgame rounds this year than usual because the activity was so ridiculous. But the names in the end are people holding for snipes, that's really just it.

I don't agree with Roba about chaos helping, I agree with 24 hours of rounds because there's consistency, and consistency and reliability is all I ever want. But I most agree with Roba about becoming less invested and forcing obsessive people to put more hours into being on alert doesn't sound fun. Though the other solution is obsessive people becoming less obsessive which I certainly want to be, I don't know if I can be though, we'll find out. But in the meantime, I think making things easier helps relax some of that need for obsession?

honestly all the talk of making things MORE difficult and MORE painful for participants is really discouraging, but if you do 24 hours of rounds then people like me are going to win so, that's fine.

I mean not me next year since I'm hoping to be casual and not super obsessive. I'd rather just make things easier and less painful for everybody involved. Less pain, more fun. There are people who are sacrificing for this, don't make it harder on them. Look at what Nanis has to go through every year despite being in an even worse time zone than the Europeans, lol.

Plus, set start times or start windows neuters the pre-ping "early crew" since everyone's on a level playing field. Maybe the tradeoff is more predictable results like v_charon says, but you can still have people missing despite a set start time. If they're in a meeting at work or they have an appointment or something, a situation you can't access your phone. SMFAS's pretty reliable start times were great and I don't feel it diminished that contest at all? Though it also had a great winner (and an even better 3rd place...)

Strong disagree on Aerith, I felt before the lawyer she was the favorite this year to win

Aerith gets to final 4 instead of Tifa for sure, but I don't think enough people have played Remake to appreciate the character change, and she runs into the same problem Tifa did: Day 97 and 98 belongs to the obsessives (pre-pingers who are simply auto-refreshing to catch rounds, despite whatever certain users think.)

Maybe if there's an overwhelming number of H1 savers who show up in that hour, but otherwise lining up the H2 deals and getting in early is more important than anything and I just don't see it outside me and maybe 1 or 2 other people. Could easily get blocked in 3rd place like Garnet was. Though maybe Aerith's survival causes enough butterfly effects to result in an endgame with enough eliminations lining up those people on her side but I still think she loses vs. Squall and some other finalists, though maybe you're right and she could win.

Hey, maybe next year!

Inviso posted...

3. Any other questions / comments / suggestions?

Trim the field down to shorten the contest just a little bit. 99 days is too long.

I saw you did 2-eliminations-per-round in the early stages of SMW and think that was a good idea tbh. Keep it to 1 elimination per day in boots but then expand it to 2 a day for a stretch of time thereafter.

This actually reminds me of something I threw together one time but never posted, trying to tie together SMFFFC to the catholic liturgical calendar:

100 through 76: Easter
-Betrayals
-Sacrifices
-Fallen characters can rise again in 1 or 2 contests

75 through 21: Ordinary Time
-filler space between Easter and Christmas
-"ordinary" really refers to the ordinal numbering scheme but this is a pretty ordinary part of the contest, all things considered
-Most of the liturgical year (2/3), most of the contest

20 through 1: Christmas
-best time of the year
-finish line/end of suffering is in sight
-sometimes get a great gift but usually end up with a lump of coal in the finals
