Interesting top 10, as we lost a few "Never Iron Man" characters before they ever went on the list (Kefka, Seymour and Tifa fitting the bill).

Delita matches Edward from last year with a similar stretch of 3 snipes in the final days to finish at 5 overall. And like Edward, had a midgame "close call" (though Edward only had one, on Day 59). But the lesson is, it's never over until it's over, even if you need greengravy to throw out NRs on your behalf.

(Actually I still remember Day 53, linkhatesganon taking the Delita NR led to Eiko's elimination... still no regrets, Eiko elimination is always needed!)

Garnet pushed the Day 69 snipe all the way to Day 98, a great run. And sure enough, look at the 1 snipe list: Zidane, Vivi, Garnet top 3 longest-survival stretches of characters with 1 snipe, interesting coincidence! And of course, Beatrix was the #2 survivor this year on a total snipes basis.

Minwu remains the # winner with 7 snipes, and Yuffie the duration winner with 73 days.

That's pretty much it, any Squall fan who wants a Squall/Garnet final, and is confident enough in Squall's ability to get to the final, should take the FBike and Nanis deals especially if they only get 1 save.

It makes no difference on the Squall side - 1 save still happens - but means everything for Garnet (who really needs it)

But I think a lot of people don't want to take chances or are just set in their ways and would just save their given character and that's that...

But that's not even the obsession... let's just say, I think the socks added to her design is the best design change I've seen in anything, ever.

But for real, like you said, I can't see anyone "hating" Tifa (or ranking her 14/15 or 15/15 in preference rankings) if they played the remake, she is just too good. I can rationalize doing it based on OG FF7 (even if it's wrong). But in any case, hopefully more people are exposed to Remake Tifa in the following years.

Sephiroth, Aerith, Tifa, Jessie.... where am I going to fit these Cissnei saves I need to make.

Hahaha nah you're right, I remember having this exchange once, once of my many wishes for the permanent dissolution of the contest and Shaduln was like "uh, you can just not participate" and my response was something like "Not when I know it still exists out there!", lol.

But in any case, step 1 is to try and become as detached as possible rather than obsessively trying to control every round outcome. That's what I was supposed to do this year and then working from home... it's easy to fall into old habits, specifically last year when I was on leave so had plenty of free time.

So I'll just show up, do my bare minimum saves, no sniping, and won't even look at the topics or results. Is the plan.

I have decided that in the event of a Squall loss, I shall play FFIX or FFT depending on who wins. That way I will hopefully get to know and love the winner regardless of what happens!

Yessss I had a plan at the top 5 for whoever won and what my special playthrough would be:

Tifa: Accomplish an FF7R normal mode speedrun in under 10 hours

Squall: GF-only challenge with no carding enemies and no running away from random battles

Garnet: ??

Seymour: No Sphere Grid

Delita: FFT replay where I'd just abuse the hell out of the JP Scroll glitch for maximum fun

I could never think of a good FF9 challenge, I've already done Excalibur II. Maybe just a straight no random battles, lowest-level-possible challenge? Or "Abilities Only" from Disc 2 onwards? Oh that could be interesting come to think of it... if not a little tedious...

In any case, whoever wins, I technically need to replay the 13 trilogy beforehand... or at least original 13 and Lightning Returns.

Someday Tifa will avenge that Edgar humiliation, right? All of you are going to rue the day, you thought this year was REMAKE BOOST but just wait, it's out on PC in 6 months (maybe).... maybe a miracle Switch release happens.... how can you possibly compete against the army of B8 Nintendrones.

You're 1, 13, 15 and that other user is 1, 14, 15. Big stakes tomorrow. I'm pretty sure swordz was a 1 vs 15 final last year actually.

Also I forgot to ask whoever those users were to not spoil the surprise, lol.

Just took a quick look at the preference stats:

We have a shot at one user having a 1 vs. 2 finals, and another user having a 14 vs. 15 finals... and it's the same finalists for both users. You wanna talk feast-or-famine...

ALSO, with Tifa's elimination (overall #3 most preferred character) we are now UNDERWATER on the preference stat average, at 8.031 (avg is 8). One last chance to bring it above-average. Now a few people still owe me their lists after we finish Day 98 so that might change, but still... we'll see what the day brings I guess.

Best case scenario:

> unblocks Moonroof
> immediately blocks him after the first post Moonroof makes in the new topic

Will the first post be a Garnet save or squandered on a bountypost/block complaint? It'll be exciting to see.

I'm sure you're aware I haven't been a big Tifa fan but it's been a long ride with our pact the whole contest-through and you're the only one who watched FFCCTCBTM so I feel it's the least I could do!

lol, completely unnecessary, but that's a good idea you just gave me - I've never actually watched Advent Children Complete and I have it on Blu-ray. Maybe I'll watch it later. The pre-planned self-care regiment was Wendy's, Grey Goose and VII Remake NewGame+ easy mode speedrun, lol.

Sorry Martin bud, I was trying to hold to see if Squall didn't need me but it was moving too fast and I didn't want to risk it. Looks like it wouldn't have mattered. I was wanting that Squall/Tifa final too. I understand you'll be very disappointed but hey top 4 is great and she's the final VII and everything. Tough break but you did great.

Thanks andy, got her farther than ever expected... it was a real team effort though and I really can't thank everyone who helped enough, i'll probably tag and thank everybody later. Day 97 and 98 are an entirely different beast though... you can see the serious business at the start of the round, that was everything.

But this also saves me being torn since I genuinely wanted Squall to win and the only way Tifa could is at his expense (she absolutely would've beaten him in the finals, surely the FF7 casuals and randos would come out at that point? With her name in the topic title????)

Here's hoping Squall brings it home I guess, finally put all that to rest.
