Accusing the people who said 'congratulations' of inevitably turning on her is not a statement you should be standing by.

Many of them will.

I know it. Para knows it. Many of the people who said "congratulations" know it. They'll go out of their way to avoid saying "she" or "her" in the future because it makes them uncomfortable. I've been using this account for 8 years, and "saveus_Maria" for several years before that. There are still people who refuse to call me Maria. But saying "Congratulations" right now is easy, and it lets them pretend for a moment that they really are accepting.

Deep down, you probably know it too.

CasanovaZelos posted...
Like, even if you think that cisgender people aren't truly accepting, you're also assuming everyone who said that is cis, which is demonstrably untrue.

This is just a desperate attempt to take my words out of context, assert that a handful of genuine individuals somehow refutes the existence of the people I'm actually talking about, and invalidate my experience. Because my experience isn't convenient for people who want to feel good about themselves.

I'm not projecting anything. I said "in my experience" and then shared my own experiences.

I really hate to tell you this but if you can't handle someone saying "This was my experience, and it sucked," then I've got some bad news for you. Other people are going to say and do much worse things. And it's not going to come from a place of sympathy. And there's a good chance you will have to live through many of the negative experiences I have talked about. Not just read about someone else going through them.

You seriously cannot sit here and act like it's MY efforts that are making thing this way for everyone. This is how things ARE. I'm just describing it.

Maria, I'm sorry that was your experience, it's super shitty and I can relate in more ways than one. Please allow a newly minted trans person to just share her joy with the world for a moment, ok?

You know how they teach us to treat people how we would like to be treated? Well, this is how I would like to be treated. I'd rather have someone share very relevant and very important information based on real first and second hand accounts, giving me the foresight and time to prepare for what comes next.

The way I do NOT want to be treated is to hear a meaningless "congratulations" from the same people who can, and will, turn on you later. That holds absolutely no value to me.

My words might seem more harsh but they in fact come from a place of genuine sympathy. I'm only a big meanie because I'm describing how the world actually works, and the world sucks. Especially if you're trans. This is not bullshit, I'm not trying to hurt or upset anyone. You can relate to what I'm saying because you also know it's true.

If she doesn't get it yet, she will later.

Everyone else is just meaningless white noise. "Congratulations." Sure.

Good luck.

In my experience mtf trans is a never ending battle where you have to be willing and committed to sacrifice literally every aspect of your life, constantly, just to get other people to see you as a woman -- and most of them still won't. Many of the ones who do will see it as an obligation or a favor, where they are going out of their way to treat you a certain way. And the moment you piss them off or disappoint them, they will not hesitate to drop the act.

I think someone has to have an incredible amount of willpower to subject themselves to that. It basically made me realize that whatever 'trans' is, I definitely don't qualify. Because to me it's not worth sacrificing that much over. I can certainly live comfortably as I am now.

Well, internally, I've pretty much thought of myself as a woman for the majority of my life. But other people rarely ever see me that way except in pretty specific circumstances. Like if I meet a new social group online and no one there knows who I am. If they've only seen me type, or only heard my voice. Well, 90% of them will still assume 'dude' because it's the internet but like 10% might actually think 'wait is that a girl???' I don't even think the internet has gotten particularly much better about this despite shifting demographics. Even in servers I've been in where people generally accepted me as female presenting, new users who joined would typically (and frequently) refer to me as 'dude' or' 'bro' as if to make a point that they didn't acknowledge it.

To me I can't muster the energy needed to present female, or try to convince people to treat me as one. I'm pretty openly non-binary but even my closest friends and family members still refer to me and treat me as a man. My grandmother was the only person who asked me about it, everyone else just ignored the concept and continued as usual.

I learned a long time ago to just accept that I can't change how other people will view me.

Imagine going through HRT, making the decision on whether or not to get bottom surgery, struggling with the fact that women's clothes won't actually fit you even if you think they are cute. Well, skirts and dresses are fine, but the top piece is not going to fit. It's not made for someone with broad shoulders. Dealing with everyone in your social circles viewing you differently. You can call them bigots and feel good about yourself for five minutes but then what? You're still alone, or things have changed.

Imagine constantly working to groom yourself so that your facial hair and body hair are kept under control. Learning to wear make up to conceal your more masculine features. Wearing it every single day. Dealing with your hairline. Figuring out how to wear a wig, how to make it look good. Realizing that wearing a wig is uncomfortable as hell. And after doing all of that, 90%+ of people will still treat you like a man. I dunno. Like I said, whatever 'trans' is, I'm obviously not that. I'm at least comfortable enough with my current life that I can't imagine engaging myself in that kind of unwinnable war of attrition.

Eh, well, like most people, you probably don't actually want to hear this. But I'm curious to know if you've really thought about it or if you just think that hatching out of a pokemon egg is a cute idea.

Not sure if this helps but if I recall the way it was explained to me, your farming level influences the chance of pulling gold crops. You could eat a meal that boosts your farming level before you pick the ancient fruit in order to maximize the chance of getting gold ones.

This is also a case where I think resetting might be the way to go. Unless crop quality works differently than I think, you could simply pick the ancient fruit at the start of the day and then reset for better RNG if needed.

Also as far as I know right now this doesn't guarantee you stuff like digging up a specific artifact. That is still determined randomly when you dig up the worms later. Maybe more information will be discovered relating to this but essentially the only thing you could use this for is to guarantee you get a bunch of clay on day 1 in a live speed run setting. And that's really only if the day 1 seed remains consistent when resetting a new farm. The tutorial vid I saw might have been showing the tech from day 2 onwards, which wouldn't work in a live setting because you'd have to include the time needed to brute force the knowledge...

Yeah exactly. It's not simple to replicate and unlike what nfun is probably thinking about, it's not something where you can use a seed from the very start to determine it. It's basically chosen when the day starts, so you have to brute force your way through that day with a bunch of resets and the seed only applies to that day.

I'm actually not 100% sure how it works with starting a new farm though. If you keep resetting on day 1 after creating the file, I believe you keep the same day 1 seed, right? So in that case after finding the right RN you could like... bring that save file to GDQ and use it in some kind of weird live speed run where the events of the first day were guaranteed to some extent but every day after that was still random because you wouldn't know the seed from day 2 and onward.

Seems like a lot of work for a minor benefit but we probably shouldn't underestimate speed runners.

Yeah I know about the Seed Maker RNG Manip. I'm not sure I could explain it in a simple way that is easy to understand, but I at least comprehend how it works. I believe it's the same one that can be used to ensure that you dig up certain objects all day long on your first day on the farm.

Basically a result of how the game calculates RN

Yeah they are different challenges to tackle, and it's that variety which makes it appealing to me. I think both types of runs have their own charm and I could understand people preferring it either way. Games with in-game time systems are really cool in that way when it comes to speed running.

Another thing, I guess this applies to both types of runs, is that you don't have to bind yourself to the accepted speed run categories on the leaderboard either. Like in my case I'm not that serious and I'm not going to be breaking any records anyway. So it can be fun to set a different goal for yourself, how fast can I reach Farming 5, how fast can I make 20,000 gold. the marriage RTA category is fairly popular but everyone goes for specific candidates because those ones are the fastest -- but you can also just pick a non optimal candidate and try to figure out how fast you could marry that person instead.

that's why I say I've only done one "serious" run, but I do like to play around with my own self defined concepts. anyway, yeah, I guess that's all I have to say about it. stardew valley is really cool.

Cool. Have you ever done any "real time" speed runs of stardew valley? You spend a lot of time sleeping and skipping over days, the farm becomes a mess, and somehow everything works out and you have just enough money and resources for the things you want.

It's also kinda fun to see that in a relatively short window of real world time, your character has progressed so far into (or even beyond) a year. I've only done one serious run, but I really liked it because it's totally different from how I'd normally play the game.

Watch the Maple Films edit of the Hobbit whenever.

Watch the Lord of the Rings first probably.

don't watch the original cut of the Hobbit. watch the director's cut if you have to. it contains a lot of good scenes that were inexplicably cut, although it doesn't doesn't remove the bad and pointless scenes. really though you should just watch the Maple Films edit. but if you're allergic to doing that for some reason then I guess the director's cut is the better of two "not great" options.

that clerks II scene is seriously awful, wow. randall clearly has no idea what he's talking about but it seems to be framed in a way that intends for the viewer to view him as the funny one who is dominating the conversation.

also the casual homophobia is off the charts.

you can try to make the argument that this came out during a time when 'gay' was used as an insult that really just meant something else, but that's not even what is going on here. randall is literally using two characters being gay as the punchline for a joke, trying to torment and insult people with the idea. because it's apparently so unpleasant that it makes a guy vomit! really glad we as a society have mostly outgrown this style of humor.

(I didn't even mention the F bomb)

I used to stream Soulsborne content. I'm really, really good at those games but I don't think that matters as much as your ability to entertain.

Maybe 10 people watched me one time, usually it was between 0-2.

Anyway, I stopped doing that after a while.

My advice is to be prepared to promote yourself and learn how to do it effectively. Also if people actually tune in you should be capable of entertaining them without it coming across as forced or fake. Alternately you can pay for a bunch of bots to boost your view count. When people see a stream with lots of views, "legitimate" viewers will naturally show up to watch as well.

the problem with the field move solution is that it still puts a big constraint on teambuilding. You can't make the ingame teams you want completely if you ALWAYS need a Water type and a Flying type as two of the slots. Especially when some games had up to 8 of things.

I guess the one argument against this style of HM "fix" is that you'd still have to carry around at least one flying type to be able to use Fly, but... in that case, just have the Taxi option available to players who wish to use it.

yeah I'm actually in the camp that prefers HMs, just because it's cool that your Pokemon are able to do stuff outside of battle. if they were going to fix it what they should have done was make it so that HMs didn't take up a move slot. instead of making it a move that is used in battle, each Pokemon could just have one type of HM exploration ability it was capable of learning. it'd be awesome to see your Pokemon actually use Fly or Cut outside of battle. and even if they didn't want to give Cut/Fly animations for every Pokemon that'd be fine too. I mean, the current iteration in Sw and Sh doesn't even show anything happening either, the screen just fades to black when the Corvinight Taxi comes and picks you up. so even if it was exactly the same visually the only thing that would change would be the flavor. I guess the one argument against this style of HM "fix" is that you'd still have to carry around at least one flying type to be able to use Fly, but... in that case, just have the Taxi option available to players who wish to use it.

- Also, is it like insanely difficult to catch Pokemon that are higher level than you? She's had a lot of difficulty catching level 30-ish Pokemon with tons and tons of Great Balls, even when their HP has been in the red.

- When did your "rival" officially become so annoying and hand-hold-y? Am I right that he picked the weaker type against hers? I seem to remember a best friend figure appearing in B/W that did something similar, but I believe there at least was a bad guy character ("N"?) who wound up with the Pokemon that had a type advantage. That really doesn't seem to be happening here.

I found this out the hard way but apparently yeah. The level difference between the Pokemon you have on the field and the Pokemon you're trying to catch actually affects the capture rate. I swear if I wasn't bald I would have torn my hair out trying to understand why I threw every single great ball in my inventory and couldn't even catch something that was paralyzed and with a sliver of health.

Also Hop is trash, he's my least favorite rival in the series. Some people like him because he has a fairly diverse team and changes up his roster (and shows some development) through the game. But uhh.... I just hate the way he talks to the player. He has his own goals but he projects his goals onto you, and goes on and on about how his dreams are both his and your dreams. I hated that aspect of his character.
