This is an awful idea, they don't make very good pets, and they stink and shit a whole lot. You should get a small 10 gallon aquarium or something instead, they are more interesting, require a bit of education and proper chemistry, and fish are therapeutic and relaxing. I almost guarantee you the hamster will bite you on more than one occasion.

A girl I work with is legitimately terrified of little people. If one is in the building, she cannot perform her job and has to leave the area until the little person is gone.
