Which do you drink?

Haven't had dairy milk in years. It was awful when it would smell sour after like 5 days.

Dairy. Used to drink almond milk but I swapped after my dad got the worst kidney stone of his life, and the doctors agreed the almond milk was the only major contributor to the stones formation in his otherwise really healthy diet.

Either. I dont ever drink milk straight so when used in whatever way I use it the difference is barely noticeable to me. Or at least not major enough to make me prefer one or the other.

lol, you're really gonna stop consuming something because one thing a guy said on this board? Not saying he's lying or has a reason too, but he could literally be making it up and you wouldn't know either way.

Outside of this topic, I've never heard of Almond Milk causing kidney stones or being a risk factor. I've been drinking it for 8+ years and I'm just fine.

I like almond milk, but can never pass it off as milk, or use it as a replacement for dairy milk. I'll gladly drink a glass of almond milk, but would never put it in cereal or coffee.

No, I looked it up before I replied. Theyre high in oxalate which is one of the most common causes of kidney stones. I already knew most nuts contained high amounts of oxalate but I thought almonds were an exception.

Interesting. I wonder if @Mormaurd dad has a history of kidney stones though? He did say "worst kidney stone of his life", which suggests that it might not have been his first. Was it?

The wiki on Oxalate does say this
Those with kidney disorders, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, or certain forms of chronic vulvar pain (vulvodynia) are typically advised to avoid foods high in oxalic acid[citation needed]. Methods to reduce the oxalate content in food are of current interest

There's a lot of Oxalate rich foods out there according to WebMD - https://www.webmd.com/kidney-stones/kidney-stones-food-causes#1

So I can see how Almond milk could've been a large factor in his dad developing one. I wonder just how much he drank though or what his diet was like otherwise. I'd imagine you'd have to consume a lot of something rich in Oxalate to develop a large kidney stone. That could be said about anything though. Too much is never a good thing.

He usually got a kidney stone once every 4 or 5 years. As for his diet, hes really conscious about that and keeps everything in balance most of the time.

Hes had larger kidney stones in the past, but this was the only one he had after his switch to almond milk and something about its formation made it so bad he went to the hospital for emergency surgery. During the tests before that, almond milk was the only dietary contributor the doctors said wouldve been responsible.

As for how much, hes a small glass of milk with every meal person.

Probably not worth worrying about for the average person then tbh

I don't really drink either except for when I have cereal for breakfast which I use dairy milk for

But by itself? Probably almond. I think I tried it on cereal once and didn't really like it

I'm not a milk drinker. But I occasionally have some cereal. I use No Sugar Added Soy.

I'm lactose intolerant. If Lactaid didn't taste sweet, I'd likely just buy that. Even though it has the same amount of sugar as regular milk(that dang lactase enzyme doing its thang), I'm actually happier with less sugar in the Soy Milk. Almond Milk bothers me as much as Dairy Milk does, so I don't mess with that.

That A2 Milk is trash. It does nothing to alleviate lactose intolerance.
