Cyberpunk definitely hurt CD Projekt Red's rep worse than Fallout 76 hurt Bethesda, but I think people are forgetting just how many parts of the Fallout 76 launch that were screwed up besides the game itself. They refused refunds, didn't give people their collector's edition merchandise, doxxed a lot of people's personal information due to poor site security, lied repeatedly about the situation, and had the most legendary PR response of all time:

Auron is significantly more important to FFX's story, has more screentime, more characterization, a bigger presence, and delivers the most memorable line in the game. Obviously his design is a big part of his popularity, but he's also an actual character underneath the cool factor.

Being an optional character means nothing when the game has been out for 24 years and Vincent has appeared in numerous other pieces of media. This isn't 1997.

But yes, Vincent is a character that is popular almost entirely because of cool factor. I don't think most people here are going to deny that!

All characters obviously have appeal based on superficial reasons, but let's not be needlessly obtuse here. People aren't voting for Lulu based on her engaging subplot about Chappu or Fran for her five minutes of screentime.

Actually yeah, people were definitely horny. Tifa at #1 overall, Fran as the top FF12 character, Lulu at #13, and Rinoa at #21 are all a little sus.

Saying Abyss has a great OST is a hotter take than saying the reverse. There's basically no game in the entire series that is generally regarded to have an above-average OST. And considering that Abyss is currently sitting in the bottom half of the story topic ratings (even after Fire Emblem Fates filled out the entire bottom rung), it doesn't look like my take on its story was that hot either!

I think Dual Destinies did a good job crafting another overarching narrative, but T&T was just something special. I guess it helped that we already had two games of caring about Phoenix, Mia, and Maya before T&T tried to wrap up their stories. DD's story felt much more self-contained.

Well I think that's part of what I meant about AJ messing up canon. They had a chance to start with another overarching narrative and they did...that. The series has been playing catchup ever since.

I'm not as big on 3-5 as others, but overall the game tells a great overarching story with no low points. It's kind of disappointing that no games in the series have been able to recapture exactly what T&T did - which is pretty much AJ's fault, but that's a different discussion.

The best Tales opening is legitimately Symphonia's non-vocal song that played in the original English version. It's not something I would listen to out of context, but every time I loaded up the game it got me super pumped to play. Set the tone perfectly. The other openings are more like standard anime fare, which is fun and all but not as effective as getting me hyped.
