I already have the answer, but I noticed that it also appears solvable through some wonky quadratic machinations. Let me explain:

Profit = Revenue - Cost
P(x) = R(x) - C(x)

Revenue = 20x - 0.1x^2
Cost = 4x + 2

So P(x) = 20x - 0.1x^2 - (4x + 2)
P(x) = -0.1x^2 + 16x - 2

The easiest way to solve for the maximized profit (since this is a downward parabola) is to take the derivative and set it equal to zero, so we get:

P'(x) = -0.2x + 16
-0.2x + 16 = 0
-0.2x = -16
x = 80

You can also use the -b/2a trick (vertex of parabola) to get the same result.

I noticed, however, that when I use the quadratic formula, and set:

-0.1x^2 + 16x - 2 = 0

You end up getting -16 +/- sqrt(255.2) / -0.2

And the two solutions you get are 0.125 and ~159.87
When you add these together, you get 160. Divide by 2, you get 80.

Is that just a coincidence?

I asked if she wanted company, and she said "perhaps" and asked if I like wine. I said yes, so she said "red or white?" and I replied: "I'm not particular. I am sure whatever you have to offer will be to my liking. And I'm sure you have good wine, too. ;)"

This is not a good idea. You should know your worth and value based on market; don't go above that, or you'll look like someone who doesn't know what they're talking about. If what you say and what number you give out is reasonable, you will get it.

Let's say you're worth in the $75,000 range. You think they're gonna look at you some kind of way if you instead ask for $77,500 or $80,000? It's called a range for a reason.

Honestly, it's all of the above that makes Michael such an interesting character. I don't think just one of those things really explains it, it's the combination of them all that makes him seem like something not human.

Good point. There are plausible explanations for any one particular trait, but for one single person to embody all of them seems beyond what could be considered normal or feasible.

His appearing and disappearing abilities. What stands out in my mind is the scene in the original in which Laurie is in her bedroom, looking out the window and sees Michael in the backyard. We see a shot of Michael. Then a shot of Laurie looking at Michael. Then a shot of where Michael should be, but he's not there. She didn't blink or look away. It happens in the span of 3 seconds and she looks visibly shaken. By film logic, Laurie saw him literally disappear. It's really no wonder she was so paranoid in the 2018 sequel. She saw the devil all those years ago.

That's one of my favorite scenes from the original, for exactly the reasons you mentioned. It's perfect because one could suggest that Laurie blinked during that split second the camera is looking at Michael, but typically in movies the character will blink or look away on-camera to explain the mysterious figure's disappearance. The way Carpenter filmed it was so perfect, because it rides that razor-sharp balance of "is Michael a human, or is he a force of nature?" Was Laurie just seeing things? The fact that Michael straight up vanishes makes the audience just as unnerved as Laurie.

You gotta go way out of your way to be remotely that degenerate so why even bother if the result is always going to wind up with you getting caught?

Based on what I learned in some of my criminal justice classes, you would be surprised at the number of people who don't get caught. You have to keep in mind that there are literally thousands upon thousands of people perusing the dark web and shit, seeking out such material. It's impossible for authorities to track down and prosecute every single one of them. So typically, they'll go after the people who are involved in the distribution of it, such as in the chatrooms that were mentioned. If the goal is to cut the head off the snake, it's more productive to go that route than to chase every rando downloading a few files from their basement. It sucks, but I understand the reasoning.

What's your favorite Halloween and how do you feel about the Rob Zombie ones?

Choosing my favorite is tricky because I'm such a fan of the character that I enjoy even the "bad" films (yes, even Resurrection) -- to varying degrees, of course. So I'll go about it this way:

The best film: Halloween '78 (of course; it's a milestone in horror cinema)
The most rewatchable film: Halloween II (1981) (no exposition since it's a literal continuation of the first film; we jump right into the action, we already know from having finished the first movie that Michael is apparently unkillable. I just love the atmosphere, it's nighttime for the entire film, until the very end. The hospital setting, the aura of death permeates every scene, and probably the most realistic "death" of Michael Myers in any film, sans H20.)

I also really like Halloween 4 (though the weird doll-like mask is a little off-putting).
I think H20 is somewhat overrated.

Rob Zombie's, I have mixed feelings about. I feel like it detracted a bit from the mysterious nature of Michael, but I give RZ credit for at least making it his own and not just rehashing the original. So kudos for having balls.

I've been such a fan of Friday the 13th that i've never watched a single Halloween movie.... I just don't feel like Jason can be topped.

I am a fan of both, and while there are obvious similarities between the two (silent masked killers who cannot be killed), there are also significant differences that prevent them from being carbon copies of each other. (Well, technically, Jason would be a copy of Michael, since Michael came first; but that's another discussion.)

Anyway, Jason is obviously a zombie or wraith-like ghoul motivated by revenge. As such, the audience understands what he is (to a degree) and why he kills. Michael Myers, on the other hand, has no real reason for doing what he does. Certain sequels and timelines offer suggestions and theories, but canonically there is no "reason" or "backstory" to Michael Myers other than the notion that he is the Boogeyman, evil incarnate, not an undead specter like Jason but also not quite a human being, either.

This is one of the things that make Michael Myers so scary, and some may say even scarier than Jason: he appears to be just a man. He's not an animated decomposed corpse like Jason, where it's obvious you are dealing with something otherworldly. With Michael, you have no reason to believe you're dealing with anything other than just a psychotic mental patient wearing coveralls and a creepy white mask... until you experience his preternatural strength and the fact that, somehow, he just won't die.

If you enjoy the Jason films, I would definitely give the Halloween movies a whirl. It can be confusing because there are several timelines, as the various sequels branched off and did their own thing.

My personal recommendation: watch the original Halloween (1978), and then watch the 2018 film (also titled simply Halloween), which is treated as a direct sequel to the original and ignores all other films in the franchise. Then, if you are invested in the character enough to explore further, check out the other sequels and timelines to see how different films explored the Michael Myers character and mythos.
