I disagree with it being hard to break code and that the changes are only strings, but agree that definitely youre right that the harder part is all the pre-made stuff If it's well written code, it should be extremely hard to break code by changing strings, since you should never be referencing those strings directly. It should be variables that are referenced. So, for a very basic example, if you've got a bunch of character objects that have different strings and the like, and you want to display a name, you should be using a variable to display that name that then gets said name from the object. So you'd be calling upon a variable like "charName" that changes depending on which object it's referencing. That way, even though the name string itself would be changing from "McCree" to "Winston" to "Tracer" to whatever else based on the need, the actual reference to that is always just "charName." There should rarely, if ever, be an actual reference to the actual string "McCree," which is what COULD break things, yes, if you're not careful. EDIT: Now, in the example of changing the repository name from "master" to "main," that would break things, certainly, because it's a direct reference that your local repo is matching to. If your local repo is expecting "master" but the repository itself was renamed "main," that's definitely going to cause headaches. One other such instance that could break things would be file names, but the file names themselves aren't gonna be seen by your average player, so they can definitely take their time doing that more carefully and just roll out the simple changes like strings and the like right away. And even then, you'd kinda need to be pretty negligent to miss a file name or reference. They said there would be Pokemon missing, and gave a general number (X00+) of how many would be there. Other criticisms of the game lacking are also a bit more subjective. Like yeah, it does feel like the story is rushed at the end, but it's not like the DLC actually expands on that part, so it's tough to necessarily call it "unfinished." Likewise, it took major steps in other areas, like making this by far the most accessible gen when it comes to actual competitive battling. My main point is not that Kazuya isn't the Ryu of Tekken as much as Tekken doesn't feel like it has a Ryu to begin with... but if you were trying to pick Ryu you accidentally picked Ken probably. This part's an interesting argument, actually. Kazuya's definitely more popular than Heihachi (Jin is, too), but they've kinda set people up to expect Heihachi by tending to have him be the go to crossover character. So it's an interesting case of Kazuya being more popular with the actual audience, but Heihachi being more expected by people outside of that audience due to exposure. Popularity-wise, atleast, they picked the right character, since Kazuya's really been the only mainstay consistently finishing at or near the top throughout the series. Jin's been close but tends to finish below him, and then others kinda shift in and out depending on the time/game. Lately it's King and Marshall, but it's also been Paul and Nina and so on. He's a significant character but it's not like he's the Ryu of Tekken or anything. Eh, I disagree with this pretty heavily. Tekken's the one series that has had a consistent storyline for literally the entire series, and it's always been about the Mishimas first and foremost. Kazuya also regularly finishes in the top 3 in both popularity polls and usage statistics. I think the main difference between Ryu and Kazuya is that Ryu got famous as "generic fighter guy" and Capcom actually went super hard in embracing that. They've just about avoided giving him much of an actual character specifically not to hurt that image. They want him to be the character you think of when you think of generic fighter/karate guy, and it worked for them. Tekken 7's sold over 7 million. I can get people not digging two fighting game characters as DLC, but acting like they're randos nobody likes is pretty unfair. The other three you named are Nintendo characters which I think gets into another problem in that people would have complained if they didn't include any, and on that front you're not going to win with everybody, either, because there's nobody left in Nintendo that everybody wants. That's why there's no real choices that wouldn't disappoint "the internet," because people are always going to be disappointed if they don't get exactly who they want.
