MK8's widely considered the best of the series, it's the only Mario Kart game to have two major releases, and Switch-games have mostly been on fire here (of which MK8 has been the best selling among them). Now people adore SMG2 and it's got top-of-the-decade levels of reception so I don't want to downplay that. Mario Kart games are almost always top-sellers too so I don't want to overstate that. Still, I think that match is more complicated than it's been treated. I'm looking over that division right now and maaaaan for a division that had LoZ:OoT clearly winning it I butchered so many matches in it. Incorrectly took: Monster Hunter 4U > Suikoden 2 Xenoblade > DKC2 Mario Maker > FE: Awakening ^both of these made sure I couldn't get points in Round 2 of those four-pack (plus I thought DKC2 would be the weakest of the four) Banjo-Kazooie > C:SotN ^this then made sure I couldn't get any points in Round 3 when C:SotN faced DKC2 That's 11/32 points I missed out on that division, or 11/17 points I missed that were available when not counting the LoZ:OoT matches that were essentially locks. Wrecked me. All that's to say good job there! It's already leading SMO according to this, though SMO could be adjusted upward too. This assumes LoZ:LBW and TLoU are still basically equal from 2013 though, which may not be the case. Portal 2 How do you make a sequel to a nearly-perfect game? You triple its length, incorporate an additional two-player co-op mode, and then add new elements on top of what people already loved. There will always be the eternal question of whether Portal 1 or Portal 2 is better because it sure is hard to beat Portal 1 pound for pound, but for my money this was an admirable attempt at providing both more of what people loved from the original and evolving to offer something new. There is all sorts of room for a sequel too...too bad Valve doesn't work on games with the number 3 in them though. This was also a game with brilliant music direction as well -- I mean the music itself was fine, but the way it was used was outstanding. | HaRRicH 05/07/20 6:33:56 PM #392 | Yeah, as someone who's been dishing it on Mass Effect's chances this contest, it did what it needed to do. First, it got a 1-seed. After that, it beat down this contest's toughest 16-seed -- the first of two major Resident Evil games it'd have to face. Then it beat down a game way worse than Witcher 3 could in 2015. ME2 didn't stop there -- it went on beat a game that beat a GotY-winner, and most recently it beat our latest GotY-winner. We generally knew this division was contentious and it survived it. If you thought ME2 was going to fail due to ME3's reception, we saw ME3 was closer to ME2 than Starcraft 2 was to Starcraft 1. It did all it was asked to do there too. I still think we never got to see ME2's strength at its highest peak (pre-ME3), and as someone who barely dabbled in these games it still sounds like the ME-series has had a true fall from grace when that trilogy was arguably on its way to be our medium's biggest contribution since the Ocarina of Time. I got my dumbest picks in a long time with taking the Witness/Destiny/Hearthstone to win their matches, but also I got a perfect Division 4 too so pros and cons. SSB has been a bigger deal than Mario every generation for the past twenty years and SSBU landed a 1-seed to SMO's 2-seed. The Guru contest was 132-7 in favor of SSBU > SMO, and in the Second Chance BOP it was still 14-5 in favor of SSBU > SMO with an estimate of 52.63%. SSBU also prevented LoZ:LBW -- a Zelda-game that won GotY here -- from rSFF'ing it. In fact, though I thought it was unlikely at the time, it's easy to wonder if SSBU could have even SFF'd LoZ:LBW...it's not like we haven't seen SSB do it before with SSBM > LoZ:WW. I totally agree that MK11 > Tekken 7 was an unexpected surprise, and I think SMO has looked solid all contest. It's possibly the #3 game this contest. However, we really don't know THAT much about these games in this contest, much less this division. We can theorize, but rSFF is a pretty in-depth concept we have only rarely seen if we've ever even seen it at all.
