Farewell, Brother

This is a two-player game I had to play by myself, so take this as you will.

Farewell, Brother has a great little flavor of style to it and the mechanic of two sibling birds trying to competitively knock each other off their pole is a fun concept -- I smiled quickly when it first came on.

That said, since the goal is to either attack the block your opponent's on or to hit a block above your opponent, and the game's autoscrolling you down where you can lose a point...I don't get why anyone should do anything other than climb to the top of the screen and fake each other out on whether you're attacking or climbing when the screen lets you again. I don't see room for satisfying strategy as-is. Maybe there's a dodge button, but the only other action I saw looked like you were putting yourself in more danger...not sure what its purpose was.

The game caught my attention for a moment and I'd like to see this improved, but right now it's just like the very base concept of a game.

That's on the agenda -- I'm in no-effs-to-give mode for games that give me problems to work right. Some of these games are more just proof of concepts than polished games too, which I can deal with trying but that doesn't mean I'll stick with then. I suspect a lot of these games will get about twenty minutes of playtime before I give up on them.

It will be pretty long after that. ROM is near the bottom of this list and I'm going in order of how they laid out the games. Thanks for the heads-up though, and if you find out if this was a good update or not then please let me know!

I'm not well-versed on the big controversy...heard some things, but I dunno what's correct there or not. Depression Quest didn't deserve such hate though as a product -- it's overly clear about its purpose and wasn't so bad in its unusual attempt at something new.

Depression Quest

This was the game that got Zoe Quinn so much grief? I think some out-of-game drama was happening too, but the game itself was inoffensive. I was annoyed at first that this game was explaining itself so much at the beginning, but by the end I think the choice worked. It's reaching out to you with a story that often struggles to have a right choice to prove depression makes everything feel worse. It worked well enough and the writing was fine. It's not a very good game, but it's an interesting thing made.

Welp...can't finish this game, not with Google Chrome anyway and I'm not bothering to switch for this text-based adventure.

It's a shame because it caught my interest. I like its music a lot and the story's plot and narrative were engaging enough early on. Unfortunately, it put some clickable items I need to continue outside of my reach -- not like a puzzle either, but like my browser doesn't recognize how big it needs to be. Oh well, I liked it for a minute.

Good, we're better off without him.

I like the peacefulness of the music and the aesthetic of the background and people...but I knew as soon as I heard the sound the game makes when I jump that I wouldn't like it. Precision jumping and awkward camera ain't gonna go far with me either.

I'm trying to play at least a little of every game I got from this $20 bundle last month. I've played a few of these before like Gone Home ('twas okay) and Dr. Langeskov Blah Blah More Words Go Here ('twas crap)...but most of these are unknown to me. I'm gonna go in the order they're presented, which is a big effin' bummer since the games I wanted to try most are at the very bottom of this list.

This could take some months, especially since I'm busier than normal the next two months...we'll see how it goes.

Your bird reminds me of one I had growing up named Tarzan. Him and Bianca were a good pair of birds we had. Yours looks sweet.

The only bird my family has today was also a bird we had before Tarzan and Bianca -- an orange-winged Amazon named Tooter:

Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS (3DS)

Finished the 18 pre-made worlds, the secret 19th world, and did a 100 Mario Challenge on Normal (nothing was unlocked for doing so). I think that counts as beaten.

How did you like the 3DS version? I've wanted to play some version, but heard this version was stripped down kinda bad.

How was it? I got Rare Replay for cheap awhile back and planned on starting some of them soon (probably BK first)

Not scarlet and not played any other version than the N64-version, but to me it's an all-time great platformer with more of a focus on exploration than stages.
