There are some good things in this level, too -- trains you for upcoming obstacles, variety of platforming challenges, interesting enemy patterns, simple but solid boss -- I'd be into seeing more MangoMan. I tried to remember which plant had the best music, but none of them were very memorable. The best part was being able to walk off the screen to turn off the game -- legitimately thought that was funny. You slip through what feels like a secret area, walk through a hole in the ground, and that makes you fall to your death which is to say you fall into outer space. That's alright with me. Otherwise, a small area of land with some characters sparsely placed here and there is all this is. You're given a shoot-button, but no bullets...lucky for that talk8ng cactus. | HaRRicH 02/22/17 12:53:04 AM #166 | The Temple of No "DEPRESSION QUEST DIDN'T HAVE THIS!!" This Twine game did a great job keeping me engaged through-out its run. It was light-hearted, bold, meta, visually and audibly interesting, and interactive...lot of good things to say about it here. I also appreciate that they referenced the game Snake right after I played a bad version of Snake...pretty random for praise, but it was a nice moment for me. Crows Crows Crows did remind me of their big problem with when they made Dr. Langeskov though: their voice-over dialogue bores me. I think it's an acting thing more than a writing thing, but it's both for sure. It just drags on and it's bad each time! It also breaks up my pace as a player from fast reading and singing along with the game to sitting and waiting for this improvised (probably) one-sided conversation to pass before I continue. Any time they talk, I just want to cut 75% of their words out. As well as they did with audio through-out this Twine game which motivates me to incorporate it more in the future, this is also a clear weakness. Learn some word economy! So far though, this is easily the best Twine game and Crows Crows Crows basically called that this would be the best Twine game in the middle of their game. Not bad! This is my ninth of twelve products this team has made that I've downloaded (third I've considered playable, plus three that don't run on my PC and three that deal with cards). I still have another card generator and two Asteroids-looking games to deal with though, so maybe those two are okay..... This is just a game of Snake if Snake sounded so goddamn bad every second and managed to sound worse with each of the majority of apples you collected. I'm surprised at how little I like this one since I thought foolmo previously recommended it. Ah well -- tastes can't line up every single time. The original Snake-game is still okay with me, mind you! I just don't know why the sound had to be forcing awful sounds all the time. This one has an okay premise, at least: see if you can make fun one-liners based on three types of cards you draw. They'll include a villain (like crooked politician), a means of death (like food poisoning), and a twist to your line (like your hero-line has to come out like you're drunk). So for this scenario, I might try to win with "You poisoned our water supply, so I poisoned your dinner...and now *HICCUP* I'm going back to poisoning my liver." The artwork's cleverly chosen, too. You can probably imagine this is based around momentum, but beyond that it's also about angkes and timing the ways you shoot yourself forward. I like what they did with the two kinds of circles you interact with: one will always make you circle 'round and 'round with whatever direction you first faced it, and the other circle will automatically shoot you toward its center depending on where you're at relative to it. Other than that, it's pretty simple: collect green balls and beat levels. It's also got a high score mode, so that's nice for extra content. Some of the shots it expects you to make toward the end are more narrow than I'd like to see it attempt in twelve levels, but it's otherwise legit. This will quickly break the chronological order as it gives you a bit of agency in your interpretation of the story. Cool enough premise. However, I did not interpret much. With no instructions you basically figure out how to send this rocket ship into space before you eject from it, avoid asteroids as you fall to Earth, fall through Earth, and some other little moments I'm afraid to interpret too seriously. It's simple and I wish the screen allowed me to go bigger, but it was cute for three minutes or so. | HaRRicH 02/19/17 10:21:55 PM #158 | The Easter Money I'm disappointed for a few reasons, mostly because this is just a PDF file to play physically instead of digitally. It comes with fifty cards to print off and some rules about how to gamble this way with your family, and I'm not doing it. Also, I'm disappointed because its artwork intrigued me! It seems nicely drawn and I've been struck for awhile by what looks to be a dead body's legs beside the Easter Bunny, so I thought I was gonna get something neat out of this. Nope! I read the instructions here...nothing too interesting to me, but two things stood out: 1) "Players take turns moving around the table clockwise starting witb the most respectable player in the group." Way to start the arguments early...! 2) This also includes a nice little blurb about how gambling's been a family tradition with them, including an uncle who'd make up a new game for gambling each Easter. In that way, it's kinda nice for AndyMakes to share this tradition and creation with us. Still not printing this off though. | HaRRicH 02/17/17 1:21:11 AM #154 | Blue This is basically a one-area game where you read motivational signs and shoot floating hearts at whatever you want without consequence. It gives a feeling of love and it wants you to remind the developer he is loved when he has a bad day...which is nice, but also it's like The Witness without its puzzles or space. The meaning's clearer, at least..... I will say they needed to playtest this more. There aren't a LOT of signs, but there are several typos among them. I also soft-locked myself out of the game by walking off the bridge and onto the river's path, preventing me from getting out. Come on! | HaRRicH 02/17/17 1:14:57 AM #153 | Only one game tonight, but I will say this about the $2 tier of this bundle: Find Me A Good One has no right to be the "middle point" between my favorite and least favorite games of any large group of games. I've pointed out three games that are worth the $2 to me so far and am still enjoying this project, but this realization reminds me of how many games are out there that I'm just not gonna be a big fan of. All the games I actually wanted are at the end of the list since they were locked by price-tiers and this is ordered by tiers. The bundle's still great if there's a few games you want -- I'm just anxiously awaiting them now. I'd recommend of the things I discovered so far: Lost Constellation birdsong Gone Home Little Party Just accept they're short. --- Posted using GameFlux |
