Apparently the whole Belgium lootbox thing is starting to affect gachas. DBZ Dokkan Battle has made it so Belgium players can't purchase premium currency with real money now.

I certainly wouldn't mind if gatchas got replaced by a buy-what-you-want system. Sort of like in Warframe. Though you'd have to wonder how many games that would kill off. Whales keep a lot of these games alive and without them they might not be able to stay afloat.

I played Soccer Spirits back in the day(before it got censored to hell). The mechanics are certainly unique but it is a bit hard to learn. I ended up quitting for whatever reason(don't remember). A few months back I downloaded it to my new phone only to discover that my old account had been to deleted due to inactivity or something. That was a bit of a bummer.

That's the thing though. I don't consider it my go to SMT game. It's my go to mobile game. If I want to go out of my way to play an SMT, I'll play an actual SMT. Same could be said for any mobile game that has games existing on a true gaming platform.

However when I'm out and about and have some down time. Whatever it is, waiting for a friend, downtime/break at work/school, etc it's right there on my phone which I always have on me. It's a quick start up. Quick thing to get in to. Helps me kill 15 to 20 minutes when I need it to.

I'm not saying you shouldn't enjoy it bro. I'm just explaining why I couldn't really get into it.

So you can flex on other users. I just like it as a mobile game. I don't always have my 3DS on me or its charger. It's much more convenient to have on the phone. It's a very to the point game compared to traditional SMTs. And as far as mobile games go, you don't have to worry about for the pulls. Whatever you want is fuseable. And you get even more specific when creating build than you can with most other mobile games.

Any mobile game is going to seem weak when you compare it to the actual game it came from. However if you look at it for what it is, a mobile game, you'll probably have a better opinion of it.

I mean, I have played it. Maybe it's partly because I've spent hundreds of hours playing SMT combat so the combat in the game felt old after like 5 minutes. I don't know. What would I rather do if I had a SMT fix: Play this or do a fresh run of SMT Apocalypse? Just rather play Apocalypse I guess. #shrug

I had a few friends do the same, but I can't say I'm surprised. They've never played SMT before. They only did persona.

I don't think it's only that. A think a lot of fans are turned off by the game too. My personal problem with it is very similar to the problem I had with Pokemon GO. Which is to say, the main series is already a portable collectaton game only...better. So like, why play this when I can just play a better version?

The touching stuff isn't like Fates. You know the avatar character you chose in your ship screen? You just like pat them and get affection. That's it. As for the combat being basic, keep in mind that the starter valks are the simplest ones in the game with the most outdated mechanics. Of the 4 starters only Chariot is viable endgame. Anyway, the mechanics get quite a bit more complex. For example: Most versions of the 5th girl, Fu Hua(not yet on Global), have 2 attack buttons instead of 1 with each version of her having unique combo trees with a handful of variations with pretty different effects. Oh yeah and a smart thing to remember: Don't spend crystals to get valks unless you're shooting for specific natural S rank ones in a focus supply. Crystals are generally best spent on gear since you can farm most valks but not much good gear is farmable. Wish someone told me that when I started.

Still in both Japanese and SEA versions. It just got patched out of the Chinese version. And was never in Global at all. Also, it's a pretty worthless feature. Normally when I play my Japanese account I forget to even use it.

A quick note: There are 2 English servers/clients. Global and SEA. SEA is like 5 months ahead in terms of content and is uncensored. The only censorship is they removed the touching minigame in global. No like graphics are censored. The only advantage global has is that Abyss, the main way to get free crystals, is a lot harder on SEA so free crystals are therefore harder to get. Though SEA is ideal to play if you hate censorship or want closest to China content in English. I'd probably have moved to SEA myself if I didn't already have like 100 hours invested when I learned it existed.

This. I've almost played every single game mentioned in this topic(well, not the SMT one because it isn't out). Most of them for *far* too many hours. After like 20 minutes of constantly being on the verge of death. The only thing keeping me alive being my ability to read the boss's attack patterns and dodging accordingly. That sort of Dark Souls-like rush is just so much more fun to me that setting a game on auto-battle and watching a movie. But to each his own.

Anyway, if you have any love for action games at all, I find Honkai Impact to be peerless. Nice graphics with silky smooth 60fps combat that controls shockingly well. It's like having a mini-Bayonetta on your phone. The gacha is on the more reasonable side(pity timers and all that) and they give currency at a generous rate. In terms of sheer collection it can't compete with most other games(which often have hundreds of characters). The game is structured in a way where that are a handful of different characters but each character has a handful of different versions(like how FEH has multiple Chroms and whatnot). So there's not a ton of characters to collect but the characters are all very different. In the Global version right now there's 20. It's not a lot but they are far more then simple outfit swaps. Entirely different movelists and skill trees and all that. Here's a trailer of the game:

Don't be too afraid. Keep in mind the RPG part. Bullet hell games are not my forte either but RPG aspects of Azur Lane make it a lot easier then a pure bullet hell game. It's not like you die in one hit or anything. You can take a lot of damage before dying. Plus there is auto-battle and stuff.

To anyone who's played the CN/JP versions of Azur Lane before, I do have some questions: how does the rarity system work? On all of these, I see 1/2/3 stars filled and 3 unfilled... does this mean they can be ranked up (like in Fire Emblem Heroes) to an extent? Is rarity a fairly clear indicator of whether a girl is useful or not (like in Fate Grand Order) or are there plenty of good ones in the lower rarities (like in Girls Frontline) as well?

My experience to the game is pretty limited(CBT and like 4 hours of Japanese version) so I can't really comment on how useful particular ships are. As for ranking up, you use duplicate copies of ships to do it. It starts at 1 duplicate for a rank up but at higher ranks you need multiple copies to rank up. There are also substitution ships you can use so you don't have to always use duplicates.

In Azur Lane you get ships via building them using a resource that is decently easy to come by. There isn't just like 1 giant gacha pool but a few pools separated by ship type. The easiest way to get Unicorn is to just spam building "Light(as in small)" ships. Unicorn is pretty easy to get. Not that rare.

Azur Lane is supposed to be open beta this Thursday and I've heard good things. Anyone able to offer some insight?

I played the closed beta and the Japanese version a bit. The gameplay is certainly unique. It's a bullet hell RPG. Gatcha is pretty forgiving for F2P people. Stamina system is also pretty forgiving. Probably most like Girls Frontline if I had to make a direct comparison.

Also in general, it could be easy to just build up your support servants and rely on your whale friends who np5 and max skill someone the day they get released.

Having friends carry your team is generally what most people do for the start of the game. And you certainly can play the whole game like that and make your team based more on the power of your friends then on your own strength. But I think that's more a design flaw in FGO then a good thing. I personally wanted my team to be standalone and my friends to just be support. Like in most games I've played.

Fair warning, FGO has one of the worst gacha rates in the industry. It is truly abysmal. You can spend hundreds of dollars whaling for something and never see what you're after. I used to play it but it was just too unforgiving in that regard. So many games do it better. Frankly, if you're *not* a fan of the Fate franchise I wouldn't recommend sticking with it. The thing it does best is Fate fanservice. Without that there simply a lot better games to play.

I've heard it does have really low rates, but then I also heard that's balanced out by lesser servants still being really useful.

That game gets dramatically harder as you go along. As you start out it's pretty easy. But the later chapters get pretty tough. I mean, it's up to you if you want to play it but it's an older game and it lacks of quality of life features newer games have. In terms of gatcha. The rate for 5 stars is 1%. Then when you get a 5 star it chooses one between all the available ones and then gives you one. So even if you pull a 5 star the one you're after will only have a boosted rate so you still might not get it. There is no pity timer or anything.

Let me tell you my FGO ragequit story. I had a decent team of 2 good 5 stars and I just needed this particular 5 star to complete my ideal team. So I saved all the tickets and quartz I got for, what was it, like 6 months? The day came that the servant I needed to complete my team was released. I went for it. Used every ticket I had and every single quartz I had saved....nothing. So, in my desperation, I started to whale. I'm not going to say just how much money I spent whaling but lets just say it's very embarrassing. And you know what? Didn't get shit. And then I ragequit and never returned. It's a common FGO story.

In hindsight, the smart way to play FGO is not to pick ideal teams or waifus and instead is to just work with whatever you happen to get. But for me, someone who likes to min-max and go after specific teams/characters, such a playstyle is too limiting to really be much fun. Things like Alchemist Code, FEH and Girls Frontline are just a lot more fair. But it's you're time. Do what you want with it. Just a warning.

Who knows how accurate that really is? I've had plenty of interactions with difficult customers and they almost always do whatever they can to paint themselves out to be the victim in the situation. Like, for example, someone will want a refund for something we don't do refunds for and I'll nicely say "Sorry sir but company policy is that we don't do refunds for that product." and then said customer will call over my boss and be like "This rude person refused to give me a refund for something that I want a refund for. A jerk like that has no right to talk down to me in such a way. I spent my money on this and I want my money back!".

While I didn't really feel pity for anyone that gets knocked out for using racial slurs, you gotta be careful doing that. There was a similar situation at my work last week. One of the security guards told a known thief to leave the property. The thief got in his face and started with the racial slurs. One hit and the thief dropped. Sadly that's not the end of the story. Cops came. Security guard was then arrested and later fired. I mean, I can understand wanting to beat up a scumbag but violence is rarely worth it. Too much risk of bad outcomes for you even if you win the fight.

Speaking of gacha systems, you know what game has a really good system? King's Raid. I don't really play it anymore but the gacha system in that game was one of the best I ever saw. Basically, there is no gacha for characters. All characters can be bought outright with currency. The gacha is just for gear. That system was amazing. I wish all gacha games functioned like that. Being able to just buy a character and not have to gamble for it was so nice.

It's funny. My favorite WoW memories are probably of vanilla PvP. It was obviously unbalanced as hell and had all sorts of issues but that's what made it hilarious. So many times I'd go into some absurdly long AV and solo cap towers and defend them by myself against entire groups of people. Or if I had a buddy with me we could have that tower on lock for hours just the two of us. It wasn't balanced and it wasn't fair but it was awesome. Well, I mean, it was awesome then. Could never do something like that now. Have neither the time nor the patience. But back in the day it was quite the fun experience.

What about the average Russian person? Or the average...whoever? The reality is, things like this are not of a concern for most people regardless of what country they are from. Because, well, most people have real problems to worry about. There are obviously exceptions. Some people do care about stuff like that. Maybe there are even some entire countries that care. But Americans are hardly bizarre for thinking like that. It's pretty normal.
