Star Wars vs Emerald Snax
This game was all offense the 1st third. Star Wars took an early lead with a 2 run bomb in the opening frame, while the Snax would snatch it right back with a 2 run bomb of their own followed by a solo shot in the 3rd, and then...that was it. Both pitchers settled down, and Golden Kweeble came on for only his 2nd appearance this season to slam the door.

OHHHHH Derp, yeah I knew about that card as well (though I did forget about it). I love the design (see my earlier comment about liking light/dark together) but I don't really like using it, it's too hard to use imo. Can't be special summoned is fault #1, but then none of its other effects are optional. You MUST negate stuff, even your own stuff. You MUST destroy all your cards when this thing is destroyed. The negating just makes it prone to being beat over. I just don't like the double edged aspect of it. It was a good suggestion though!

Totem Dragon
This is a neat little dragon that is the one I mentioned in a previous post. It gets destroyed by battle, it comes back next turn, AND counts as 2 tributes if you really wanna tribute summon.

Keeper of the Shrine
This one got held out on design because it's just a guy labeled as a dragon, but it is a great dragon support card, and I used it a ton back in the day on ygopro along with the other named suspects.

alll right i'm caught up and here are my wild predix. although up to now the most determining factor seems(?) to be duel links related which i know nothing about. the rankings being determined by a combination of the three categories throws me off a bit because that makes me think the top 10 all have like 1 or 2 point difference in their final scores around the 20 point mark because most of the ones with old school appeal/possible attachment are not scoring highly on usability and vice-versa.

L&D - i'm going with this as my #1 predix because of the combined score factor since it was a widely-used card but is also old enough that it might gain some points in the other areas. also because CED was already predicted and i don't want to have the same answer lol

Black Skull - this would have probably been my #1 predix if i didn't think the usability would hurt its overall score. and the other four choices listed below would have been too safe. it was THE og badass fusion.

To directly address these predix, the ones not covered anyway:
L&D - I'm ashamed to admit I actually can't think of what L&D stands for.
Black Skull Dragon - I liked this card but I liked Meteor Black Dragon more and felt it was kind of redundant and inferior to MBD.
Black Rose - I do like the idea of black rose, but the fact that it destroys itself too is just something I can't get over.
Normal dragons - I was never super attached to any of these besides luster dragon, and once I saw alexandrite dragon it was like that meme where the dude with his girlfriend is admiring that other girl's ass. That dude was me. Luster dragon even has a #2 version that I like the way it looks more. Baby Dragon was cute but Thousand Dragon was eh. It's iconic for sure but I never liked having to use time wizard much.
Harpie's Pet - I do actually like this card but I couldn't in good faith include it on a list that doesn't have something to do with something dragon related. It's just sort of a "Here, you randomly have a dragon type monster."
Dragon zombie - If I were going to go for a dragon-themed zombie, or even a zombie-themed dragon, I probably would have either gone with Red Eyes Zombie Dragon or Dragonecro Nethersoul Dragon.

Now to mention some cards that weren't considered, dragons or otherwise
Cyber Dragons
Sorry Kateee, but I HATE this archetype because it's so obnoxious in duel links, where Zane has a skill that basically lets you get a free powerful cyber dragon fusion (Usually chimeratech rampage dragon) after getting hit. I will say Chimeratech Overdragon is probably my favorite cyber dragon because I love the idea of just dumping literally all of your monsters into one super powerful monster, but I just don't like cyber dragons as a personal grudge.

Heiratic Dragons
I was never a fan of their gimmick which revolves around summoning other dragons and giving them 0 atk/def, mainly because the purpose is to go into synchros/xyzs. I will say Sun Dragon Overlord of Heliopolis is probably worth a mention as it's really good and I like the way it looks, but meh.

Dragunity
This is an archetype revolving around using other dragunity cards as equip cards, but kind of the same as Heiratics, usually goes into the types I don't like. Also, they are mostly distinctly humanoid in design which I've said I don't really like either.

Slifer the Sky Dragon and The Winged Dragon of Ra
These are 2 of the three god cards, and as such they are the only 3 cards in the game with the "Divine Beast" type I believe, but they're basically dragons. I always liked slifer more because it was considered the weakest of the 3 and I love that underdog, but it was also Yugi's god. I always found it hilarious that Kaiba, even after the events of the final season and him finally acknowledging that regular yugi is a better duelist than him, that he's STILL petty enough to label the lowest dorm in GX "Slifer Red" with Ra being 2nd and his own god, Obelisk, being the top dorm. Never change, Kaiba.

Buster Blader, The Dragon Destroyer Swordsman
You know the boss monster I kept talking about in buster whelp's profile? This is it. This card does one thing and it does it amazingly. All dragon types on your opponent's field can't switch out of defense position, and they have their effects negated at all times, and it deals piercing damage, and gains 1000 atk/def for each dragon on their field AND in their GY. It just can't attack directly. You combine this card like I do with a trap called DNA surgery, to change all monsters on the field to dragons, and suddenly it's a complete lockdown no matter what type of monsters they're running. And the fusion card for it lets you use an opponent's monster, and it takes any dragon monster plus Buster Blader, so you can use DNA, and promptly steal one of their now dragons to use for your big beefy boi. And it of course naturally eats blue eyes decks (which are very popular in DL right now) without the need for DNA surgery.

Levia Dragon - Daedalus
This is a leviathan themed card that can blow up everything on the field if you just have the field spell "Umi." It has a retrain, Neo Daedalus, that requires you to tribute this card for even greater effects, but I find blowing up a full board and attacking with a 2600 atk monster is usually enough to end most games, and the consistency needed to have neo daedalus in hand is a bit too much to sacrifice instead of just using regular daedalus. It also has a metaphys version that I used a crap ton of as well, that banishes all special summoned monsters on the field if summoned by metaphys tyrant dragon (which is basically most monsters at this point in duel links lol)

Metaphys Tyrant Dragon
This is the Metaphys version of Tyrant Dragon, which metaphys in an archetype that revolves around banishing your own stuff for various effects. Metaphys TD becomes immune to trap effects period, retains TD's ability to attack again after hitting a monster, and can special summon another metaphys monster upon being banished and shuffled into the deck. One of my favorite moves when playing this deck is to combine it with concentrating current, a spell card that adds your def to your atk for a turn so you end up with a 5400 beatstick that can attack twice if it hits a monster first and is immune to trap effects. Like Thunder dragons, this is probably about the same amount of mechanic juggling, but I lucked into the necessary UR cards to give this archetype a try and finally got good at it after a lot of work.

Thunder Dragons
I mentioned them in Levianeer's profile, but Thunder Dragons are an archetype whose main gimmick is "Discard this card to get the 2 other copies from your deck" then you use those to go into fusion monsters. There's a lot of discarding and banishing going on so even though I have been interested to play them in duel links for quite some time (And I think theyre still really good, esp with levianeer as a finisher), they're just a bit too daunting for me to try yet (as well as I have to actually get levianeer there). I did use the original thunder/twin-headed thunder dragon in the earliest days though, in a fusion heavy deck that didn't have a particular archetype. I also used a giant 4200 atk koala in that deck lol. I've always been a fan of mashing stuff together.

My one story is that I bought 2 packs one for my brother and one for me. My brother got a Dark Magician of chaos (1st edition) I was gutted because I was being nice, but I wanted that card, but then I pulled a CED.

I really like all the chaos cards, I like the whole light and dark dichotomy they go far. Magician of Chaos was great too, nostalgia wise. Iirc they gave him a retrain that's actually super good?

Dragon Rulers
So, dragon rulers for those who don't know are a series of 4 big and 4 little dragon type cards, 1 big and little for fire, water, wind, and earth, that were part of one of the strongest decks in history, only being kept from being Tier 0 status (which is some high % of representation in official tournaments, of which there have only been a few in the game's history) by the even more busted spellbooks. Thing is...I'm not super into any of the dragon rulers. Blaster is probably the big one I like the best, and the baby ones are all cute, but I think they were TOO mainstream WITHOUT me having any attachment to them, because I wasn't in the game at this time. With CED, I have very fond memories so that overrides the "Literally one of the most broken cards of all time" aspect of it, but dragon rulers were cancerous and DON'T get any obvious and unfair bias from me.

So, that's the list! I hope everyone enjoyed this, because I'm not done yet! Now I'll talk about some honorable mentions that didn't/couldn't make the list. Maybe they were dragon types that just fell short, maybe they were other types that "say" dragon but by LAW couldn't be included, maybe they're just related to dragons in a way I find worth mentioning. Whatever the case, here's the best of the rest!

Gold medal: Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End (Original)



This is it. THE dragon card, one of the most infamous cards in history. Well done Sorozone, you called it. I'll give it to kateee as well because you sounded like you wanted to but just wanted to be different.

Usability: 10/10
This card for the uninformed is one of the cards that necessitated the CREATION OF THE BANLIST, as part of a combo called Yata-lock. Basically you wipe the field with this guy, who has a very easy summoning condition, with either witch of the black forest or sangan on the field. They get blown up and let you bring in Yata-Garasu from the deck, who you then peck with over and over until the opponent runs out of life points. This combo was so powerful that, in a game in which pot of greed, graceful charity, etc, had remained limited but not straight up banned, this combo was the one that broke konami and finally forced them to forbid cards. I think you could make a case that in its original incarnation (It was sadly errata'd to be worthless but legal) it was the most powerful card of all time. Stuff like pot of greed and graceful charity are incredibly powerful because they let any deck be more consistent, but none of those cards directly cause a win condition like CED does.

Design: 10/10
Like Red eyes darkness metal dragon, CED encapsulates a lot of what a dragon is. It has felgrand vibes where it's just so in your face and intimidating. And this one is roaring, almost howling up in the air as though it truly is an envoy of the end. Also, I LOVE the orange flowing mane, it's a nice touch that doesn't detract anything.

I owned this card. I used this card in a non-yata lock fashion because I wanted to use dragons only. One of my earliest ygo memories is I had a gamer mag that had a ygo section in it, and this particular edition was just at the height of all this yata nonsense, and I was just fascinated and read that mag over so many times. This was around the time where my town actually had a game store so we'd go in there sometimes and look at cards, so I was firmly into the game at that point, though I was always super shy so I never took part in any festivities there or anything.

Total score: 30/30
Probably expected/10, but idc. To the average fan, blue eyes is the most popular dragon, and that's not an unfair take at all. But no dragon has had a bigger impact on the game than Chaos Emperor Dragon.

Silver metal: Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon



Get it? It's metal, and it gets a medal, but I called it a metal cause...yeah you get it.

Usability: 10/10
This card is straight up limited in the TCG and OCG, that's how good it is. The summon requirement isn't a big deal, especially since there exist a few dragons who can bring themselves back from the GY and then get banished the next time they go there, so you stick like a totem dragon face down, it gets destroyed just to come back next turn, and banish it when it would be banished anyway to special summon this guy, who can then special summon another dragon? THat's 2 beefy good monsters without even using your normal summon for the turn! This is THE monster to run in a dragon deck. You know what else you can do? Use it to SS a level 1 tuner and go into Star Eater, or SS another level 10 dragon (which I'm sure there are some) and go into a rank 10 xyz monster (of which I'm sure there are some.) All without using your normal summon for the turn. It's just a hell of a boss monster with a great ability to facilitate all sorts of powerful extra deck plays, dragonic or otherwise.

Design: 10/10
This is like the epitome of what a dragon is, imo. Dark, red (Not personally but I wager most people would associate dragons with the color red), and menacing. It's got red gems in its wings which are a nice, probably unintentional play on the fact that dragons love riches. And it doesn't look too different from the classic red eyes design which is already one of my favorite dragon designs.

Sadly I never owned this card physically, but I did mess around with it some on ygopro, and it being basically the definitive "So you want to play dragons?" card earns it high marks here. Plus it's a red eyes card, which I've already expressed I like more than blue eyes.

I find this card also interesting because it's the culmination of a series of other red eyes evolutions that were kind of crap. First you had red eyes black metal dragon which was utter garbage and was inferior to the cards used to make it. Then you had red eyes darkness dragon which was slightly better but still not very good. Then you jump from that to this absolute unit of a card. Just an all around incredible card.

Bronze medal: Kidmodo Dragon



Don't judge me for my love of cute dragons. It's gonna be a big boi/girl someday!

Usability: 7/10
It's pretty good! It procs when it gets sent to the GY period, so it can be by battle, by effect, by discard, whatever. You get a special summon out of it. Hey, I know a card that would go great with this, #5! The battle phase limitation I think hurts it a bit and turns the main play of this into "Set face down, watch as they blow it up and you put a super strong card on the field."

Design: 10/10
Oh come on. The blep. The sparkly eyes. THE PUNNY NAME! It's a kid komodo dragon. Kidmodo! That's hilarious! This card is basically perfect. I think the mat for it in duel links was a limited time only and I was out of the game during it so I'm sad.

I used this card very heavily in both TCG and duel links. Kidmodo into White Night Dragon was a staple move of mine early in the game, and I will definitely continue using it if I ever decide to rebuild that dragon deck to be better.

4: Buster Whelp of the Destruction Swordsman



This is a vital support piece for my #1 deck in duel links, Buster Blader. BB is an archetype whose sole purpose is to kick the **** out of dragons, so it's definitely weird that I've taken such a liking to it. I think part of it is that it involves turning your opponent's monsters into dragons, and part of it is because of little cuties like this (of which there are several different variants).

Usability: 8/10
As I mentioned, this is a vital support piece, both in the TCG and in Duel links. It searches out one of the fusion cards used to bring out the boss monster for the deck (the fusion card allows you to use oppnent's monsters too, and is a quick play spell!), and it also lets you just tribute it to bring a buster blader on the field should you need some oomph immediately. It can also bring itself back next turn should you still have BB on the field. The only downside is that it doesn't work with BB's retrain if that retrain is in your hand, which is a shame because the retrain is pretty good.

Design: 9/10
See: World Chalice Guardragon. The ONLY thing I don't particularly care for is how its tail seems to start at its chest? Which isn't usually how tails work. But it also has 6 legs and therefore 6 adorable paw pads. I would keep this as a pet.

This and kateee's topic got me back into duel links and...yep, blue eyes are still super popular, which means I'm still running this deck designed to kick the **** out of them, which means yep I still use this card on a daily basis!

I'm super weak for cute cards, can you tell? But this card is also just super useful, and it's also a tuner which it helpful in the TCG as there is at least one synchro monster that is super helpful to facilitate the eradication of opponents via your super powerful boss monster. ALSO, fun fact, as with most things in this game, BB has some decent lore around it that involves BB finding and raising buster whelp, only for whelp to somehow get corrupted and turn into a giant dragon that BB has to put down. However, in its final moments, BB manages to purify the now grown whelp and fuse with it, becoming the boss monster of the deck. There are also some cards that depict happy memories of BB's and Whelp's time together which I just find really adorable and touching.

5: Divine Dragon Lord Felgrand



This is the retrain of "Felgrand Dragon" which was the boss monster of the Felgrand mini-archetype that revolves around equipping dragons from your deck like spells and then gaining effects when equipped. OG Felgrand was unfortunately not that good, as you couldn't special summon it unless it was sent from the field to the graveyard first (obviously intending to be equipped by felgrand monsters) and then if you did summon from the GY, it just got a big atk boost.

Usability: 8/10
This card is much better, however. It still gets a big atk boost (the OG felgrand got 200 per level but this still gets you at 3500 with a level 7 monster at 100 per), but not only is it no longer restricted in its special summon, but you now get to banish a monster from your opponent instead, and being able to choose field or GY is huge considering how the GY might as well be a second deck nowadays. The flexibility is just great, and being able to pull it off on your opponent's turn if you use a Dragon's Rebirth or something can be a great disruptor. And if you manage to blow something up with it you get another dragon with it, which means it's a good threat to go into a rank 8 xyz on your main phase 2 if you can pull out another level 8 monster.

Design: 9/10
Perhaps this may feel a little generic to some people but I loved the OG Felgrand's golden scheme, it really put the "Grand" in felgrand yknow? This is a spot on rendition of the original just with different artwork. It looks powerful, commanding, regal almost...grand is really a great word to describe the way this card looks.

The OG Felgrand was one of my favorite cards, so much like seiyaryu I was ecstatic to find this clearly better version existed with 0 strings attached. I used the original Felgrand quite a lot as well in duel links, even though for the longest time (and maybe still? I dunno) there was a bug that wouldn't allow you to special summon it even if you met the requirement. Definitely lost a game because of that.

Total score: 23/30
I love so much that they took off the summon requirement, because that makes this thing usable in dragon decks where before you really had to run things like paladin of felgrand if you wanted to be able to get it out reliably.

6: White Night Dragon



Starry Night, White Night, are there any other Night Dragons I should know about!? (angry spongebob realtor voice)

Usability: 4/10
Sadly, this card isn't that great in the TCG but it is somewhat more useful in duel links. This card's effects are just the type that would probably do well in casual play but being spell/trap based means it's just not relevant at all. It also isn't optional, which means if you want to equip it with anything, it will negate your own card as well. On the plus side, it does have 3000 attack which is good, and hilariously I've had several instances in duel links where people pay so much attention to the first effect that they just straight up forget about the 2nd effect, so sometimes I will put out a 2nd weak monster on purpose just to bait them into it because I know no one reads that 2nd part lol.

Design: 10/10
Remember my affinity for ice dragons? This one is basically one solid block of ice. Instant A+.

Much like Prime Material, but I used this card as a legit boss monster in the early days of duel links and could probably go back to it, it's def not as strong there as it used to be but there's still enough targeting battle traps/spells relevant there that it would throw a wrench into some people's plans. (Like enemy controller)

7: Starry Night, Starry Dragon (formerly #12 Seiyaryu)



This is the newly-discovered, certainly never before seen and definitely not overlooked by accident retrain of Seiyaryu.

Usability: 7/10
This is another card that won't win you the game on its own, but it does have some good effects! Certainly better than "vanilla 2500 monster." The destruction is effect is fine as we've discussed, that it has to come from the hand does take it down a notch but Starry Nights has plenty of support to get it into the hand anyway. The dark thing is only a tad limiting (See: Starving Venom), and the battle phase effect is pretty good as well. If it banished permanently, I think it would be a lot better, but it is still at least good for pushing for that last bit of damage you need. It doesn't target and it banishes so it bypasses a lot of protection. Just a lot of small-ish but good effects.

Design: 7/10
So I won't lie, the first thing I thought when I saw this card was "It's not pink!" That is honestly a bit more of a letdown than I was willing to admit at first. but even so, I still like the design itself, it's supposed to be Dragon Jesus so I think the all-white suits it well. I just can't help but be a bit wounded on the not-pink.

Since I never did actually own this specific card, I can't really give it a 10/10, but the love is strong enough to still give it very high marks here, as despite the not-pink I am honestly ecstatic that this exists and that it has other cards that help it along.

8: Interplanetarypurplythorny Dragon



Yes, you read that right. It's interplanetary, it's purply, and it's thorny. And proud of it.

Usability: 3/10
Unfortunately, it's not that useful. The ability to special summon itself from the hand is kind of useful but it can't really do anything else after that, and such an ability relies on your opponent blowing something up which you don't necessarily want either. I guess in a pinch you can crash a monster into an opposing monster in order to bring this guy out but it'd have to be really specific of a situation.

Design: 9/10
Just friggin look at the name! 32 LETTERS. It also looks sufficiently alien without being un-dragonlike, like say parsec dragon. I think that's a spearhead for a tongue? A point off because it's purple which is my least favorite color.

I've owned and used this card in my dragon TCG deck and it's in duel links where I own it and have it in my deck as well. I found it at the same time as prime material dragon on ygopro but I like this card more.

9: Blue Eyes Alternative White Dragon



Here is the retrain I was referring to. Ultimate dragon has an alternative version as well but I put this card here instead because I actually don't like the way alternative ultimate looks.

Usability: 10/10
This might as well be a free special summon. Blue eyes decks have tons of ways to search out blue eyes, which means your opponent already knows you have one in your hand. You basically get to say "here is this card you already knew I had, now I'll summon this card." The destruction effect is good, nothing fancy, but imo an underrated part of this card is that its name is treated as "Blue Eyes White Dragon" which means you can use all the blue eyes support with it, and use it for fusion summons for the aforemention blue eyes alternate ultimate dragon, which is an absolute monster.

I am really happy that they stayed mostly faithful to the original blue eyes while still touching it up just enough that you can tell it's different. This is a big reason I don't like Alternate ultimate, it looks way way too different imo, especially the face.

So, and this is going to sound dumb but bear with me, I actually never really used a blue eyes engine because it was SO popular, even in duel links (where the main deck I use specifically counters blue eyes because it's so popular and powerful). This is part of why I prefer red eyes, because ti's sort of the luigi to the mario of eyes dragons. But even so, blue eyes is THE yugioh card. You've gotta have some appreciation, even if not personal affection.

I know a blue eyes at only #9 seems crazy, and it probably is, and it's not because I don't like blue eyes. The other cards I just like more, and from here on out I don't think there's a card that won't have at least higher attachment scores than a majority of thsi list (think like 4+)

I have decided that 12: Seiyaryu will be moved up a number of spots where I will do a writeup, so consider the 12 and 11 slots to be occupied by Starving Venom and Gandora X respectively. Hence this monster will be the new #10.

10: Chaos Dragon Levianeer



This is imo, the spiritual successor to the infamous Chaos Emperor Dragon.

Usability: 9/10
This card sees some successful play in both the TCG and Duel links I believe, particularly in the Thunder Dragon engine. The summon requirement is very easy, and Thunder Dragons have ways to recoup those banished monsters for advantage so it's hardly even a cost. As for the effects, all 3 of these are very useful. Special summoning a level 8 monster would give you 2 level 8s for you to go into rank 8 xyzs plays. We've already discussed how powerful interacting with your opponent's hand is. Destroying 2 cards is also very good, especially since it does not target which can get rid of cards that might be immune to targeting but not the effects themselves, or just help you clear out spell/trap cards. The 3000 atk is also very good, though it means a little less and gets a point off for not being able to use it immediately. But this just a really really good card.

I do think it resembles somewhat the Chaos Emperor Dragon, and I especially love the ball of chaos it's about to unleash on some poor unlucky soul. I also really like all the horns on it and how the wings curl around in such a way that it helps concentrate the chaos energy. CHAOS CONTROL!

This gets points just for resembling chaos emperor dragon and being a successor to it, and a good one at that, even though I've never owned or used the card (it's pretty hard to get in duel links).

I have toyed around with playing full on thunder dragons at various points, and since they are called "Dragons" even though they're thunder type I would have no compunction against playing this card in that deck.

I will not be including any non-dragon type monsters even if they have dragon in their names, and am saving those for an honorable mentions at the end.

And yeah, I think you put it a great way that I like the old cards which are usually going to be decidedly worse, so usually it's been "either usability or attachment, but not both" Which is why I'm generally going with retrains in such cases, becasue they get more points in usability while also still retaining "some" nostalgia like Blue Eyes.

I've tried not to base a card solely on duel links but if I use it heavily in duel links it's goin to get more points in the attachment/usability slot than a different monster. Like a card isn't going to get 10/10 on usability solely because of it's use in duel links, but it will be a factor.

10: Gandora-X, the Dragon of Demolition



This card is a retrain of Gandora, the Dragon of Destruction, which ended up being regular Yugi's ace monster near the end of the anime.

Usability: 10/10
This card is banned in the OCG which is a good indicator imo of the power level of a card. The field wipe on its own is really good, and the burn damage is another nice cherry on top as you're probably going to be getting over 2000 of damage, which is really really high for a single card. On top of that though, the cost is actually not a huge deal imo because it happens during the end phase. You can summon this card, get the awesome effect, attack with it, then use a trap called dragon's rebirth to summon a different dragon and get rid of X in the process (Or use some other method to get it off the field like linking), bypassing the upkeep entirely. That would probably amount to over 8000 points of damage in one turn if you can pull it off after X has already attacked. Compared to the original gandora who straight up can't be special summoned and you have to pay half your LP up front to do it, and it doesn't get the burn damage. This card seems like it can be a game-winner.

Design: 9/10
I love the upgrades over the original Gandora. All those red dots are laser shooters as depicted by I think a JPN-only card called Gandora Giga Lasers or something (I think Yugi also used in Dark Side of Dimensions). And it has uh...a LOT of them. It demolishes things alright!

As with the original gandora, this seems like a high-risk, high-reward card that you use when you're ready to swing for game, except without all the risk as there are ways to get rid of it before you have to pay half your life points.

11: Starving Venom Fusion Dragon



Usability: 10/10
So all of these effects seem like they're pretty good. A heck of an atk boost, an effect copier, and a floating destruction effect likely to wipe your opponent's field clean. Sounds good right? The real use of this card though, as explained by DuelLogs, is in its fusion requirements. You see, there's a card called Super Polymerization, which is a better version of the standard polymerization fusion card. This card is spell speed 4 (Which means it's usable on your opponent's turn and can't be negated or responded to), AND lets you use monsters from your opponent's side of the field. This card being just 2 dark monsters is perfect, because dark is the most popular and widely-used attribute in the game. As a result, a card with some great but not overpowering effects becomes an INCREDIBLY effective way to get rid of two of your opponent's scary monsters, because extremely few monsters have protection from being tributed. This doesn't target, doesn't destroy, doesn't anything but send to the graveyard. This card sees tons of extra deck play because using it as a super poly target is just so effective.

Design: 9/10
This is another really unique dragon, I love all the orbs on its body, and I love the pose it's in as well. "Imma come and getcha" as if it's really starving.

I have never owned or used this card, but stealing opponents' monsters to fuse yourself is one of my favorite things to do in yugioh (my main deck in duel links does it) so it gets a bonus point just for being able to do that so effectively.

12: Seiyaryu



One of the oldest cards on the list (as if the artwork didn't give it away).

Usability: 0/10
It's a dark magician if dark magician had no support. No reason to summon this for 2 tributes when there's so many better even normal monsters. The one trap card that depicts this monster (dragon's bind), you could just use Red Eyes instead with it.

Design: 9/10
The old art style really hits home here, I love how it just looks like a painting almost. It has feathers but it's not too bird-like, so that's a plus. The background also projects an aura of holiness and mystical...ness. (which apparently according to the wiki, this is like a dragon made with the soul of a knight or something, as it's the opposite of the Serpent Night Dragon). Also, it's pink. It's just a really unique card.

So, this card first came out as a promo card back in 2002 for the game boy game "Dark Duel Stories." Some of the earliest memories I have of yugioh cards, this is one of them, as it was my little brother's and he was into the game too and he'd use this card against me. This is definitely the most purely nostalgiac card on this list.

13: Prime Material Dragon



There is one other card like this card called prime material falcon that has part of the same negate effect, and it makes me wonder what this Prime Material is. Itd be cool if they turned it into an archetype.

Usability: 4/10
The negate is fine, most effects are going to be monster effects so theres a decent chance youll get to use it. Its also not a once per turn and on both players turns, and it doesnt require the card to target, so I think theres some applicability here. It's just a shame it doesn't work on card effects period, so it won't protect you from something like a raigeki. The LP effect is pretty whatever.

Design: 8/10
I assume this dragon is made out of this Prime Material and I love it. The fact that I cant tell exactly what it is (Metal? Fabric? Etc) adds to the mystique for me, and I just really like how sleek and smooth it is.

Much like Spark Dragon, I first found this card on ygopro and have been a fan ever since. I even used it in my dragon deck in duel links for a while, so this card has big nostalgia to it.

14: Blue-Eyes Chaos MAX Dragon



And here we have our 1st real appearance by the Blue-Eyes archetype (keyword: first - FORESHADOWING), quotation marks because lets be real, no deck is running Dragon Master Knight and if they are then theyre using a fusion substitute for BEUD. This is also our first Ritual monster, and most ritual monsters are pretty garbo unless theyre made for an archetype that uses them, like nekroz or cyber angels.

Usability: 10/10
Chaos MAX, however, is not one of those cards. For starters its got 4k attack which puts it on par with Obelistk the Tormentor, a friggin egyptian god. It deals DOUBLE piercing damage, which means if it destroys a defense monster by battle, it deals the difference in values twice instead of just the regular once for piercing damage. Since most monsters have lower defense than attack, if you can say book of moon your opponents monsters into defense position, you could be looking at up to 6000 life points in a single attack. If you get lucky enough to swing into a 0 def monster, thats game right there, a OHKO. However, the real meat of this card is the protection: cannot be destroyed or even targeted by card effects. So your only real way of getting rid of this card is some sort of non-target non-destroy effect like Drowning Mirror Force. Finally, the card used to summon it, Chaos Form, allows you to banish cards from your GY instead, so if you dont have any Blue Eyes in your hand or on field, as a last resort you can permanently get rid of one to bring out this beast.

Design: 7/10
Its a big stronk dragon. I like how its a lot bigger than regular Blue Eyes, and I like the crystal protrusions on it, but I dont like what looks like lights on the wings. Gives it a bit too much of a mechanical look.

16: Coral Dragon



Usability: 6/10
Neither of these effects will blow you away, but they do help you recoup some losses once it goes away. Its also only level 6 which means its easily gone into. Also, interestingly it is the rare synchro monster that is itself also a tuner, so it could be useful if you want to go into that star eater (though thats a lot of resources). There's a couple of SUPER boss monsters that I think require synchro tuners.

Design: 9/10
So full disclosure, this is my wifes fault. She is very big into all things aquatic, and although she knows nothing about yugioh she enjoys it whenever I show her cards that shed like (Mermails, aquaactresses, etc). This is basically a cross between our 2 favorite genres of creatures. The one thing I don't like is I think its face looks a little weird. I think it's the nose/snout/whatever you wanna call it.

17: Blizzard Dragon



Usability: 2/10
Sadly, this cards focus on the battle phase renders it obsolete, and while 1800 is a pretty typical attack stat for a level 4 monster, its also not extraordinary. I do think its in duel links though? Where stalling a big scary monster repeatedly would actually be pretty useful. I also think you could use something like book of moon to turn them into face down defense position and then use this card to lock them in perpetually? It doesn't say face up so...

Design: 8/10
As discussed, I love ice dragons, so this one is ep1c w1n. I love that you can see an aurora in the background. The one thing I dont like is that its arms look like my arms, which is to say extraordinarily thin. But the wings are great, its eyes are great, everything else is great.

18: Red-Eyes Black Dragon Sword



This is another card like DMG Dragon Knight where you use a legendary dragon fusion card to bring it out.

Usability: 5/10
Ultimately, a card that only boosts atk can go but so far, but this has the potential to be one heck of a boost, as it counts your own graveyard as well, and they dont have to be unique. You already sent 1 dragon to the GY for this so minimum youre getting a 1500 boost which is enough to beat most things, but say youre running a dragon deck and you have 6 dragons in there. Thats a whopping 4000 atk boost. And because its a red eyes monster, it gets the benefit of red eyes support. Something I can imagine being very funny is your opponent attacks one of your monsters and is beating over it, then you use a trap called Red Eyes Spirit to special summon the sword (As it is a red eyes monster) and equip it to the monster they are attacking, and suddenly they just took like 3000 damage from attacking. That gives me the giggles.

Design: 10/10
Whats something else I like a lot besides dragons? Swords. This combines two of my favorite things. I love how you can still see the eyes. It also works thematically because the 3 legendary dragons are actually knights who were turned into dragons, so of course a knight would use a sword.

But its part of the red-eyes archetype which, my main deck in DL for a while was Red Eyes Slash (which I debated putting here instead, but went with this because its literally a sword, expect an honorable mention), so it gets points anyway.

18: Stardust Spark Dragon



This card is an alternate version (not really a retrain as the original stardust isnt bad either) of arguably the synchro eras de facto synchro monster, as it was the ace monster of the main character in the anime.

Usability: 9/10
I really like the flexibility this card has. It sacrifices the recursion effect the original Stardust has for a more pre-emptive effect, and it can grant itself this effect too, and this effect protects from ALL card effects, not just monsters, so its superior to First of the Dragons. You can either turn it into a perpetual tank or grant another monster the protection if you really need to push through for that last bit of damage. And finally, its on both players turns. Its not quite as good as just being immune to card effects but its still very good protection.

Design: 7/10
I actually like the original Stardust design just a little more, but this one is still good, I really like that the wings seem to be made of feathers (something it shares with Judgment Dragon).

I know what youre thinking: Personal attachment to a synchro monster!? Let me explain. Many years ago there used to be a free online ygo sim called ygopro, but it was unofficial so I think it no longer exists. But I did dabble on there for a bit because I really just wanted to build a dragon deck and see how itd work without paying for a bunch of cards first. And at that time, I hadnt yet come to completely shun off other extra deck summons, I was more exploratory. So I was like hey, lets see what this is all about, and Stardust Spark Dragon was my main extra deck monster that I liked to go into. Obviously my deck fell completely flat against the AI using meta decks in that game, but Spark even managed to live quite a while against those decks, so I was impressed. So there you have it, the time I used synchros.

I do like stardust spark dragon and the original stardust dragon, and there is plenty of support for the OG one at least. If this were a maindeck monster it would make top 10 easily.

19: First of the Dragons



First of the Dragons

Usability: 9/10
This cards effects are great. Cant be destroyed by battle unless its a normal monster, and unaffected by monster effects in a game where most decks rely on monster effects, this guy has really great protection. There are 2 downsides here though: It relies on normal monsters, which usually you dont really want unless youre running a deck around it, and its atk of 2700 is a bit low, just low enough to be worrisome that you might run into, I dunno a blue eyes or something; it definitely wont let you beat over the higher atk monsters in the game. But odds are you wont run into something that can destroy it, so for that it makes a great tank imo.

This thing is gigantic which I expect from something called the First of the Dragons. In MtG, the Ur-Dragon was said to be so big that its eggs that spawned from its wings were the size of comets, and First of the Dragons here looks like it could be approaching that size, with how small the land beneath it looks. Totally badass. I also like all the spikes. It gets a point off however for having the same problem as my spiel on synchros etc from earlier; why can any 2 vanilla monsters turn into THE FIRST OF ALL DRAGONS? Why u do dis konami

20: Trishula, Zero Dragon of the Ice Barrier

I did a moderate amount of handwringing over whether to pick this or the original version, but went with this one because I think its just better.

Usability: 10/10
This is probably the best card up to this point and maybe one of the top 5 on the entire list. TBH I think the only reason OG Trish is limited and this is unlimited is because OG Trish interacts with the opponents hand, which is exceedingly rare and prone to getting hit with the banstick. Trap Dustshoot is a straight 1 for 1 (and lets you see your opponent's hand) and is banned, to give you an idea. Anyway, even though I think the field-centric effect is slightly less good than OG trishs One of everything effect, the other boons make up for it. You get to go into an OG Trish (without the effect though) if this is destroyed by card effect, and then Trish gets an atk buff, nerfs your opponent's atk, AND negates other monster effects, which is the real kicker here. The one thing I am unsure of is how much the level 11 vs level 9 matters, but theres so many things you can do with tuners I am skeptical it makes a difference, but the fact that it's unlimited makes me think there has to be something holding it back from being broken and that's the only thing I can think of.

Design: 8/10
Ice dragons especially are something I'm very fond of, with Kyurem from pokemon being like one of my favorite legendaries ever, so this hits that sweet spot. Plus it has multiple heads, another thing I like as 5-headed dragon can attest.

Coincidentally, this and OG Trish are great examples of my Synchros etc arent good thematically post several posts ago. This is Trishula, Zero Dragon of the ICE BARRIER. But I could play this in a fire deck because ??? In a perfect world, this would be limited to the Ice Barrier archetype, but even if the monsters had to be Water, I would take that. I wonder if Ice Barriers would see play (afaik they are regarded as one of the worst archetypes in the game) if this were an Ice Barrier limited card. I wonder what the landscape of the game would look like if all extra deck summons that are supposed to be boss monsters of an archetype were limited to that archetype?

Jerry Beans man! He got used in the early early days of duel links because he was the highest atk level 4 or lower normal monster in the game for a while.
