Either he has no love in his life, or he does and he's not recognizing it, or not accepting it as "enough" for his own personal self-affirmation. Regardless, it's all about his own perception.

Any man obsessed with achievement has an intense fear of his own inadequacy, on a metric that he has set for himself.

Now that may be exacerbated by the people around him (a parent, a sibling, a friend), but in the end, we'll always be our own worst critics, and you can either accept where you're not perfect, deny it, or fight against it.

I only connect with this show tangentially, but is it just me or is so much of this show being "anecdotal" both one of its major draws and one of it's major failings in terms of being an effective forum?

EDIT: And I'm not saying that no one guesting on the show comes bearing data and studies, etc. Just that one of the main themes of it is being anecdotal in general.

Every time you wake up, the game saves. I can't say for sure what happened to you, but if I had to guess, it's something that's difficult to notice while you're on Giant's Deep.

Then I went to another planet, crashed my ship, went outside to look at the damage and then just started floating off into space randomly and couldn't get back to my ship

One of the first big tricks of the game is making sure you have proper control of your ship. It takes practice. If you're going to check your ship for repairs, make sure it's grounded. It's really tough repairing it in open space.

There's a very specific trigger that occurs to let you know your game is saved.

You'll have to play for about an hour or so before you discover it.
