I heard a little about it from Jim Sterling's video but don't know how bad it is. I'm guessing from Swery's words the game's gonna receive a patch to change it?

It sounds like York dead names and misgenders a trans character. Sounds like it's an issue with translation and having the opposite intent Swery intended.

I looked it up. From what I can tell it seems the "transphobia" is using a character's "deadname" and wrong pronouns repeatedly. Not exactly scandalous.

I think I just passed the part you might be referencing. There is a trans-woman in the game. Peolle in the game (being from 2005 and in the South) don't take to kindly to her. However, York makes a very woke statement to the camera about how they are all people and deserve respect. It was actually getting a bit directly preachy, but it was fine.

Later we run into this lady. York somehow has ascertained that the trans-woman is actually a member of a local family who are currently the bad guys of sorts. York just tells her that he knows she is actually the son who "ran off" a few years ago. Says like "I know who you are, Lenny Clarkson." Instead of using her new name...which wouldn't make sense given the context. It was a mystery being revealed to the player. He wasn't denying her new identity. Much to the contrary actually.

Of course, I'm still early. So it might get worse later.

That doesn't sound that bad tbqh, just acknowledging that a character mentioned elsewhere and this character are in fact the same person

Reporting back having finished the game. It didn't get any worse. I think people that are upset are only upset because they heard about it without understanding the scene at all.
