I agree with you. Conquest is actually in my top 3 Fire Emblem games and I basically played all but the Japanese ones.

I will say that, gameplay-wise, Conquest is a straight upgrade from Awakening. All those random +5 to Hit or +10 to Avoid skills are just replaced with more simple +1 damage done or -1 damage received. Reclassing is much more streamlined. Everyone gets a personal skill and 2 other classes that they can reclass to. Pair Up is nerfed, because Fates does "Attack Stance" and "Guard Stance," which I think is much better. The UI looks much nicer. And, of course, the map design is significantly better. Awakening has some of the worst maps in the series and Conquest, while it has its fair share of bad maps, has a lot of stand-out designs. The only thing that I think Awakening does better than Conquest are how they handle the kids.

It's just kinda hard to tell if I want Fates-style gameplay going forward. The next two games are Echoes and Three Houses, which both have radically different styles. I'm not sure if I want Fire Emblem 16 to be refined Three Houses, refined Fates, or something new altogether.

I haven't played a second of it yet, it's just a gut feeling I'm going to be in that camp.

Pair up was absurdly broken in Awakening. Actually glad to see it nerfed.

Good game with fairly uneventful combat and very uneventful shop system (you can clear the game without ever visiting a shop) furthered by a weak AI that makes it even easier than it should be. especially when it comes to enemy units that don't move. If you come prepared, you can take out one of the nastier boss fights of the game without him even moving off his starting square. Popo can long-shot him from a rooftop, and if you bring enough MP restoring items, she can easily kill or at least severely cripple him by herself with minimal additional investment. It also drags a bit at the end, which is around the same time you get a seriously overpowered character.

... But it's carried by it's story, among other elements. Also, that unlike FE, 90% of your characters don't immediately fade into the background the moment you get them. I definitely don't regret the purchase.

It's a game where if you're looking for a challenge you won't get it. If you're looking for a game that actually tries and more or less successfully paints a narrative while not pulling most of it's punches, it's a good buy.

For some reason I suspect I will be in the minority who likes Conquest more than Awakening. I get the vibe that it's being overhated a little and I've always felt Awakening is overpraised.

Convinced enough not to touch the other two Fates though. I'll just play Conquest like a standalone game.

People are definitely too hard on these. They are mediocre Fire Emblem games, sure, but that still means they are better than most games. What's their competition on the 3DS for a tactics RPG outside the franchise? Fucking Project Steam?

However, if there's even a remotely possibility that you my get a Switch, they aren't even in the same ballpark as Three Houses.

Oh I will get a Switch eventually. I didn't have a 3ds until... 2-3 years ago. I bought up a bunch of games at a low-point in price, but much like Awakening, Fates never actually had a low point in price.

So in summary:

Birthright is easy and generic
Conquest is tough and "why"
Revelations is fanservicey cashgrab

If I had to choose from those descriptions, I guess I'd choose #2? Birthright kind of sounds like FE7, which on a replay a decade later I found so easy I didn't actually finish.

I will say I wasn't exactly impressed by Awakening though.

This is the only place I visit that I feel could give an informed opinion of this, so I felt I'd ask. I was reminded yesterday that this remains the only US-release Fire Emblem that I do not have barring Three Houses (Unless you count Warriors, which can apparently be bought in droves on Ebay for $10, and I don't have a Switch yet).

Most of what I remember hearing about this game is mixed, such as Birthright being too easy or Conquest's story being too lax, but I haven't heard much of it in the past couple of years. Buying one physical + revelations appears to be about $50 right now.

I know someone who lives in Missouri as a Democrat with a very far right roommate.

Most people are still completely ignoring Hawley because they're still laser focused on Trump. Unless you also dramatically increase acceptance rates this would only further hurt the ability of lower class individuals who couldn't afford 10 years of trombone lessons to put on their resume from getting into medical school.

And medical schools aren't going to increase acceptance rates. Then they would have more doctors which would GASP result in doctors making less money

Medicine in general as a field is fairly fraudulent because when they do their job right, they lose their patients, and sometimes it pays more to take a more roundabout route to keep some of them around.

Well no, majority of medicine today hasn't changed all that much in decades. Antibodies, inflammation concerns, painkillers, steroids, the usual vaccines, etc all are consistent and would be most issues. But for specific stuff like cancer, AIDS, autoimmune, yeah that's different. Specific stuff is part of why malpractice lawsuits are so common too. If your issue is that people unqualified for the job are licensed, totally true, but I'd sooner tier it and demand better continued education.

This would also be my take. I don't think scrapping the system entirely is either safe or prudent.

I do understand part of the point that being licensed 30 years ago shouldn't automatically qualify you for using equipment made in the last 5 years that's drastically different from everything else you've done.

This, except Im probably more conservative than you. Im fairly ideologically libertarian in a lot of ways. I think the best way to cut medical costs is making it so doctors shouldnt have to be licensed (As long as they make that completely apparent)

But the last 8 years or so have had the Republican Party turn into the literal forces of evil. What the hell man.

I represent one of the greatest current fears of the Republican party. The actual moderate ones know they're rapidly losing the people who don't strongly identify with either party.

I didn't like Bush Jr., but frankly we were fine as a country for 4 years. I've paid more attention to politics in the last year than I have in my entire life. This is a case where extra exposure has been bad.

I can't tell you how much they'd have to clean themselves up to even get me back on the fence. The same holds for many like me. My current political leaning can be simply put as "The Democrats aren't "good", but the Republicans are "evil".

Biden isn't the "hero" we want, he's the hero we need. If the Democrats waste these two years though, and they're probably going to, at least we get some peace in our lives for a little while. Not being terrified of my own President is a good feeling.

That fear was there from the start and got even worse at the end. 2016 stunned me into being noncommucative for days (Blade actually picked the TNF game for me that week, Ravens over Browns, because I wasn't functional enough to do it myself)

I don't trust that party as a whole to even be able to recognize me as a woman. I've spent the last 4 years with a looming sense of danger as a trans. That fear is going to be the toughest thing to forgive.

I'll never understand people who look at the Democrats and then look at the Republicans and say "I could NEVER be a Democrat. But I'm perfectly okay with being a Republican. Those guys are swell."

Going by strictly the political ideologies without all the BS attached, I'm more of a centrist. However, the Republican party's overall bigotry and ignorance of science, which has grown especially worse in the last decade, combined with their awful Presidential candidates (with the exception of McCain), has made my vote really easy every time. When McCain chose Palin as VP, it made that vote easy as well.

I never strongly identified as Democrat until these last few years, but I've been noticing myself thinking of the Democratic party as a "we" in recent years, which is not something I had done before.

The ideology itself isn't the problem. It's that the party itself has completely lost track of that ideology and has instead loaned itself to hatred and willful ignorance, with all signs saying they will only continue down that track. If it could ever actually evolve past that, back to it's basics, I could see a time where I vote for a Republican. I simply don't expect that's ever going to happen. It feels like they've gone past redemption.

Today is good and I don't want to take away from any of it... but I do want to point out that the next time this Trumpesque thing happens (and history has proven it will), the collective we has to realize it and actually stop it.

The only mistake they made this time was putting an actual adult as VP. A racist, homophobic, weirdly oedipal adult, but one that actually had a floor he wouldn't tunnel through. Next time they won't make that same mistake.

I said weeks ago we've 100% set the stage for a dictator to later rise to power in the US.

Nothing's changed that.

Honestly I didn't think any major disruption would happen today. The capitol riot was basically the last stand for the lunatics and many of the more moderate protestors realized what they were supporting and weren't going to come back.

That said, those stimulus checks are going to get swept under the rug so fast.

you can tell that 2015-2016 was a LOT of Trump fans' first foray into politics because they'd never been through a political loss before.

He radicalized a lot of people who were into the reality show that was Trump but didn't really care about politics in general.
