Yeah, I'm hoping this topic lives throughout 2021 with an occasional uptick in discussion or a cool post... but I think we've run our course. The time flew by, as it certainly didn't feel like I had Mass Effect on my plate for a month and a half, which I'd say is a hallmark of quality gaming.

That said, I have no intention of replaying any of the games (and probably won't until the NEXT time I'm really feeling that itch, which will probably be another several years down the line) and in fact, feel like a break from gaming will suit me well. I'm almost glad the rest of the year is looking barren!

Three-part remake

Part 1 - fantastic start. Released to critical and fan acclaim.
Part 2 - Aerith dies at the end. Provides the strongest possible hook for the finale.
Part 3 - wraps it up, obviously.

As soon as I played Part 1 a few months ago, this is the way I envisioned this remake going. Any more than three separate games (especially if they're also doing DLC between them) would really kill the overall project's momentum - there's a reason why trilogies have been a popular/consistent way of delivering big stories for so long.

CaptainOfCrush

As soon as I finished Season 1 a few years ago, OPM became one of my favorite shows because of its hilarious take on the superhero genre. Saitama is a protagonist who can obliterate any opponent with a punch - by design, he cannot lose a fight. He also can't handle spicy foods, can't beat most people in video games, can't easily make friends, can't find anything better than a dumpy apartment to live in, can't regrow his hair (and is very self-conscious about it), and can't seem to convince most people that his heroic exploits are actually his. Hell, the reason he decided to first pursue superheroism is because he couldn't find a respectable job, despite multiple failed attempts.

The drama and entertainment of OPM is not derived from Saitama's fights, but from his struggles to fit in, gain recognition, make friends, and find purpose in his life despite being the strongest fighter in all creation. That's the whole joke, and that's what makes the show so good and Saitama himself so relatable.

So yeah, by his very design, Saitama would beat anyone (including Goku) in a fight, but he'd also lose to them in just about anything else because he's a big goofy loser like that.

If Biden maintains his mental faculties over the next three years (not being provocative one way or the other, it's just not a guarantee given his age), he'll be very difficult to defeat in a general. The contemporary Republican strategy of going all-in on white nationalism won't work against Biden, and their alternative - actually trying to field a decent candidate - seems like a pipe dream given where the party stands today.

I thought ME1's endgame choice was pretty nebulous, actually (I remember pausing a while before making my decision). It may be inadvertent, but the game kinda presents the choice as sacrificing a ton of human soldiers in order to save the Council. This first seemed like a strange "Paragon" option for Shepard in a game where the Paragon options until that point revolved around saving as many lives as possible. It's easy to miss the part where the Council is aboard the Destiny Ascension, and its crew of 10,000 asari would perish if you opted to protect the humans (again, because the game frames the choice as "Council vs Human Soldiers"). Either way, many people die regardless of Shepard's choice, and none of them deserve it.

That dilemma is one of the reasons why I think ME1's endgame is so strong - it felt extremely weighty in a way that really made me anticipate the sequel. Hell, even the Anderson vs Udina choice felt significant (albeit easy).

God bless Mass Effect, the only franchise that can force me to "take a break" in the middle of its resolution to post here. I sometimes remind myself that the trilogy, including all DLC, was released over the course of five years. To put that in perspective, the entirety of ME was given to gamers in a timeframe shorter than the wait between BotW and BotW2. The scope of Bioware's ambition remains incredible, and their ability to engender such an emotional investment from fans in such a short amount of time - is perhaps unrivaled in gaming.

And it all makes me still lament how badly THEY FUCKED UP THIS ENDING

Might check it out, but I'm inching toward endgame. Once I get an ending (and the last trophy for upgrading a weapon to Level 10), I might call it a trilogy.

And not a day too soon! I've been playing this like crazy since launch; I honestly didn't think it would stretch this long - especially ME3, which is quite robust with all the side content and has taken me much longer than the first two. My final playtime will be just shy of 60 hours.

Found it, thanks! Cute scene, but Javik steals the show in pre-party encounters.

Speaking of the party - I can see why hardcore fans view Citadel as the ultimate DLC. It really is a love letter addressed to all of us, and perhaps I'm eight years late to the party, but I'm still glad I got to enjoy it.

Also not sure if it's worth reloading the save just to fiddle with the options (ie: starting with a "lively" party versus a "relaxed" one). I kept a save slot free in case I decide to later.

I'm nearing the end of the Citadel DLC (though every time I say that, more people hit me up to check out the baller new crib). Few things:

-- Anderson just gives me his pad, which is the second coolest Mass Effect home after Donovan Hock's mansion? Poor man doesn't think he has a chance of surviving this.

-- Just about all of the apartment/strip interactions are fun, though true to form, Jacob and Kaiden have the most boring ones LUL.

-- I did 183 pull-ups.

-- Javik's interaction might be the best. I had one moment when I realized we were on the set of the latest BLASTO, and then another when it finally hit me that Blasto films are patched-together piles of crap with elementary school production values. This scene had at least ten great jokes - it might be the best written comedy bit of the trilogy.

-- Conversely, Thane's memorial might be the most touching little moment of the trilogy (simple as it was). Comedy has been this DLC's central theme thus far, so I wasn't expecting the ability to invite Kolyat to my apartment for something like this.

-- Please tell me I'm wrong, but it seems like Kasumi might be the ONLY person I can't interact with before the party. Zaeed got a funny scene at the arcade, but the master thief is still MIA. Are they seriously gonna do my girl like that?

The breakdown for me was:

Coconut Shrimp x8
Garlic Scampi x6
Walt's Favorite (Breaded with cocktail sauce) x6
Grilled Skewer x24

I didn't like the garlic as much as I thought, and may have enjoyed it a bit more if it wasn't swimming in butter. The rest were at least really good, but the standard grilled was less overpowering (that coconut with the pina colada sauce was something else) with the right amount of char, so it became my favorite. If I had that alone, I could have probably done 60+.

How large are the shrimp. There's a massive shortage of product right now due to the job market being hit especially hard in food services so I'm kind of impressed they are doing this

The coconut shrimp are really robust (and really good but so sweet with the Pina colada sauce that they could serve as a dessert), but that could just be the breading/coconut giving them a larger appearance. My grilled ones are kinda tiny, though my gf's are bigger. I tried one of hers and could not do anything else until I gave her one of mine so I wouldn't throw off the count.

Yeah, I feel fat and sad making this topic, but I think this might be a one-and-done lifetime experience, so I want to do it right. To that end, I'd like to pick the shrimpy brains of our experts (I've seen this brought up on B8 many times).

My fat ass would love advice on the following:

Do I order one thing at a time, or is this like an AYCE sushi joint where I can order multiple things at once? How many shrimp typically come with a single order, do they come with a carb-heavy side, and am I obligated to eat that side before ordering more? Is there one flavor that's generally considered their best among aficionados?

Guide me to victory.

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/06/27/business/economy/jobs-workers-unemployment-benefits.html

Business owners had complained that the assistance, as Gov. Mike Parson put it, incentivized people to stay out of the work force. He made Missouri one of the first four states to halt the federal aid; a total of 26 have said they will do so by next month. But in the St. Louis metropolitan area, where the jobless rate was 4.2 percent in May, those who expected the June 12 termination would unleash a flood of job seekers were disappointed.

Work-force development officials said they had seen virtually no uptick in applicants since the governors announcement, which ended a $300 weekly supplement to other benefits. And the online job site Indeed found that in states that have abandoned the federal benefits, clicks on job postings were below the national average.

It seems as though the states that tripped all over themselves to end extended unemployment benefits have not seen any noticeable uptick in job applications.

But hey, at least we can celebrate the cruelty!
