It's hard to match because of time between tournaments and the likelihood of your team actually getting into a penalty shootout (unless you're England and then it's basically a biennial event)

I think not making the final isn't necessarily a big deal. Like the best two squads and teams in 2018 were Belgium and France, that was the true final and could have gone either way.

They made the final in 2016 but it was an utterly humiliating defeat to a comparatively mediocre team (on paper, at least). Just like tonight. By what you said Deschamps should get credit for 2016 but imo he gets very little. Though certainly more credit than he gets for this one.

The reason he deserves the sack for this is exactly because 2016 already happened.

But hard to change manager with the short turn around before the World Cup anyway. France will still have the most loaded squad when that comes around.

Completely agree. They had defensive issues all game long, but at 3-1 with 20 minutes left that's the time to shore up shop, possess the ball. Be a little cynical. Waste some time. ESPECIALLY after you watched Spain throw away a lead from the same position earlier in the day. THAT's why I'm coming down on Deschamps so hard now, that's all from the manager (and I guess the more experienced members of his team).
