We may have already discussed this, but the way ME3 pushes uncompromising support of C-Sec as the "Paragon" choice looks pretty bad a decade later lol

This hijacker trophy is about to drive me batty. I must have done it back in 2012 but I can't remember how. I'm rocking a sniper (on a freakin Vanguard) specifically to make this trophy easier to get. I'm purposely killing my squadmates so they don't damage the Atlas's armor... nothing. Maybe a sniper rifle is a bad idea?

Id argue that ten safe stocks is more risky than two. Its five times the chances of one of them crashing.
I hate to open with this, but I teach a managerial finance class (granted, we rarely go over the stock market and never touch day trading, so there are regulars here far more knowledgeable than me about those specific topics), and I don't think you'd find a single reputable thinker/resource in the financial world who'd agree with you. Diversification is a major goal of proper investing - all things generally being equal, it's better to distribute the same money across ten stocks versus two.

I don't have any moral issues with leverage as an investment strategy, but greater leverage (ie: debt) theoretically opens the investor up to greater risk. My problem is when life *does* present these hedge funds a shit sandwich, they take a couple bites, realize they don't like the taste, then call the CEO of Robin Hood and pressure him to shut the app down. In a fairer world, they should eat the whole sandwich.

This Omega DLC is loooong. It's making me appreciate the traditional gameplay structure of Mass Effect, where individual missions are broken up with casual spells aboard the Normandy or Citadel. Omega, in contrast, just drags, and it probably doesn't help that you're dealing with Aria (whose boss bitch act gets tiresome) the whole time.

True, great point. I haven't actually noticed much of that in ME3 (probably because I'm still in the early game as far as main missions go), but I definitely noticed a lack of that in ME2. I laughed at how they tried to cover it up in certain scenes by only showing Miranda, Jacob, and sometimes Mordin.

Still, ME2 definitely strikes me as superior not only in humor, but in general dialogue (again, so far). Shepard in particular seems bland in ME3.

Alright, back in the game. I just finished Leviathan *real* early (the last main mission I did was recruiting Garrus on Palaven) and feel like jumping immediately into Omega. Hope doing the DLCs this early doesn't make the rest of the game seem weird.

Btw, is it just me or does ME3 seem, uhhh, bereft of life compared to ME2? I know that the developers obviously needed to focus the narrative on the Reaper invasion (it's the last game) and the mood isn't supposed to be upbeat, but the complete lack of humor/witty dialogue I'm seeing so far is a bummer after the last game hit a home run on those points.

I've heard that the Citadel DLC may address those issues - here's hoping!

A 2022 release is somewhat reasonable if you factor in a 12-month death of efficiency due to COVID. If it bleeds into 2023, that's when we start wondering if this will be another cross-console Zelda launch title.

I'm still not buying the Switch Pro rumors. The Switch is setting sales records and has been on the market 4+ years. The longest Nintendo has ever gone between major console releases was 6 - they may as well ride out vanilla Switch into the next console.

As for the games, BotW2 looks awesome (it seems heavily influenced by TP and SS - just give us a massive ocean and we have our trifecta), but the fact that they're "hoping" for a 2022 release suggests Holiday 2022 is our best case scenario. That's 1.5 years away and 5.5 years after BotW. It's clear Covid delayed major game development by a solid year across the industry.

I wonder what would happen now if we had a Depression-level event in the market. I feel like people are too savvy to ever let that happen because anyone with cash would be buying the dip before it could totally crater.
Yeah, I feel like even if Millinnials and GenZ have very little wealth tied up in traditional assets (land, real estate, retirement funds), they still have some disposable income and comparatively little expenses, so they'd be able to buy all the dips even if older investors grow fearful and pull their money out.

Do you guys regard the four majors as equally important to legacy? Growing up, I'd understood the general sentiment that Wimbledon was the most prestigious, with the US/French in the 2 and 3 spot, and the Aussie in a somewhat distant fourth.

So would a Wimbledon title mean more than an Aussie, or is that just antiquated thinking?

This is really the only reason why I'm investing now. Once I can own my home, I really don't think I'm going to play with stocks (as I'd likely sell them off) and, at most, I'll just throw money into my pension and Roth IRA and call it a day.
That's the Boomer Wealth Special, and there's nothing wrong with it. And in 30 years if you feel like scaling down, you can sell that home for a massive tax-free gain and enjoy a pretty awesome retirement, or you can leave it for your kids, who will probably turn into entitled NIMBY shits when they realize its true value (the dream!). Like you said, the tough part for young people these days is actually getting started, as the barrier to entry for home ownership - even traditionally modest starter homes - is so much higher than it was a generation ago.

I do think it's still worth it, though. I've been earning a pittance working part-time for two years, and I can afford to do it on the back of my condo's exploding equity (I was lucky enough to buy in 2015). Buying that place is easily the best financial decision I've ever made - much better than any stock I've profited from, and much better than buying Crypto in 2017.

I also think Landlords in general are leeches so I'll be doing everything I can to avoid ever having to do that.
Generally speaking, agreed. I think we should be doing more to incentivize first-time home ownership, and even more to disincentivize multiple property ownership, and that doing so would be a huge net benefit to society. One home for everyone, ten homes for no one.

Maybe trying to set up a rental property now in this insane real estate market isn't worth the hassle, but landlording is usually an excellent long-term investment with returns that rival the stock market, different but arguably superior tangible benefits (if times get tough, you can always live in your rental home/apartment/room yourself), and more favorable legal/tax protections (bankruptcy, tax-free gains on sales of a principal residence even if you've used it as a rental property).

There's a reason that land and real property are like the most valuable assets throughout all of human history, and that even in the worst of times, fulltime landlords will do everything in their power to continue earning rental income versus entering the job market and earning a wage - because it beats the shit out of actually working.

I began ME3 last night (played only a few minutes, not even reaching the first enemy encounter). Is it just me, or does this intro make the game seem less polished than ME2? Dialogue/scene transitions, camera angles, and the menu systems all strike me as more boilerplate and less refined here than in the middle game.

Also, Anderson's sprint animation cracked me up more than anything in ME2 - it's almost reminiscent of ME1 jank.

I think just about everything is a seller's market right now. I recently sold my old car within two hours of placing the ad on Craigslist, and I got like 30% more than I expected.

Games are definitely in the same boat - I know the GameCube market blew up since the pandemic, so it's no surprise to learn the Dreamcast did as well. Now that I think about it, I should probably calculate a rough evaluation of my overall game collection - it's gotta be in the thousands (and mine is nothing special compared to a lot of guys here - we're sittin on gold!).

Sports media is far more dependant on the star power of athletes than the athletes are dependant on them, but it's gotta be awful tough for them to admit that on air.

Like XIII pointed out, there are legitimate functions of sports media and advantages to having them around, but their industry (which has already been shrinking) would shrivel to the size of a raisin if they focused solely on investigative journalism and in-depth analysis. They need to ask LeBron the same question 50 times so that he might get mad and give them something to cover for 48 hours.

I can appreciate Naomi's position, but the right move for her would have been to stay out of the competition until she was mentally ready to return. She's a professional player, and that comes with certain commitments including press interviews.
She played one round (of a tournament that takes seven rounds to win) and peaced once it became clear that the tournament organizers decided to intimidate her rather than work with her. So that's basically what she did.
