Congrats. The loading times are making it look more enticing than it otherwise would be, but a PS5 probably won't even be on my radar until I upgrade to a 4k TV... which likely won't be until my current TV craps out.

A PS5 without a 4k is putting a huge cap on the console's potential, right?

VaatiVidya - the big prerequisite with him is that you need some experience with (or at least interest in) the Souls series, but he's basically the online lore luminary of that community. His Bloodborne videos are some of my favorite on YouTube.

I'm holding airlines as well, though I've only put in like 2.5k, so I wasn't nearly as brave as SephG.

Also, only a chunk of that is nearing the 1-year mark. I bought Delta just a few weeks ago and am already up big! Either way, I don't expect to sell my blue chippers for years.

Sorry, "AoE" in my last post should be "Damage Over Time".

I doubt you have access to most of Melia's most damaging spells right now, but you should have Bolt and Flare. The general play with her is to summon Bolt (which increases your Ether damage) first, which will strengthen the rest of your summoned elements - be it Flare or some other ones later on - thereafter.

Yeah, Melia can get stupid broken but needs to be in the 1 slot (kinda like Shulk but even more definitively so). Her AoE damage can work with the same multipliers (Chain Attacks, back attacks) that physical attacks do, which opens up some crazy plays.

Oh yeah, I wanted to recommend entering the Marsh at midday so you could see the day/night transition organically. It's definitely one of my favorite regions - glad you're enjoying it!

Also, you've probably reached a Nopon camp/merchant near the entrance. He sells intermediate level books for many of Dunban's arts - I recommend buying at least Peerless, Gale Slash, and Worldly Slash.

Yeah, I think the only time I swapped Sharla in last year was when I was farming flying mobs.

She's not disliked as a character, but she's just the least fun in gameplay and the least useful for Chain Attacks. She might give you a better chance in tough battles through sheer attrition, but she'll also lengthen (what should be) quick battles with her pitiful DPS.

Contrast with Dunban, who helps end fights quickly and is a Chain Attack monster.

Initially, I kept Sharla in my lineup for a while because I had grown reliant on healing, but a good Shulk/Reyn/Dunban setup can nuke most enemies before healing becomes an issue.

During grad school, I had a really nerdy-cute coworker, and both she and her husband wanted to explore sexually (since they got married young and had never even kissed other people). She wanted to fool around and the husband okayed it, but only if I could convince another girl to fool around with him.

I asked my most sexually adventurous friend, and to my surprise, she excitedly said yes. So we had a situation where this dude was getting a bj from my friend upstairs while his wife dry-humped me (she was too shy to get naked, she even muffled her orgasm lol) downstairs.

I'm not sure if that qualifies as a cuck story, but it's the closest one I've personally been involved with.

they could still be rooted for even though they were a scumbag.
A lot of people didn't root for them. I sure as hell didn't root for Michael Corleone at the end of Godfather II. But I WAS rooting for him during the first two hours of the original Godfather because he was a sympathetic character - he didn't want anything to do with his family's criminal empire but felt compelled to step in to protect his father. He was also (at that time) battling people who were portrayed as more ruthless and sinister than him, as evidenced by the scene with the crooked police captain reassigning his men so that Michael's dad could get murdered in his hospital bed. Against people like that, you WANTED to root for Michael. And when the story evolved such that Michael's power vilified him beyond sympathy, you stopped rooting for him. And you saw the consequence of his increasingly evil nature, as his family was killed around him and he was left to die old and completely alone.

Marla was not given one ounce of goodness or sympathy in her movie. I mean seriously... name one.

Like Sopranos, Godfather, Nightcrawler, American Psycho, Godfather, Goodfellas, Wolf of Wall Street, Breaking Bad, The Shield, etc. But when it's a woman that'a scumbag in this case, it's now a problem.
Generally speaking, I also didn't like the protagonists of those movies (the ones from your list that I've seen), but at least I recall them being given some positive character traits or at LEAST being paired with worse, more morally reprehensible people to make them look comparatively more sympathetic.

Marla wasn't. She was the most evil character in her movie because she was written that way for the first hour, and she had no redemption to speak of.

She wasn't written like Walter White or Michael Corleone; she was written like the prison warden from The Shawshank Redemption. Pure villain. And if you're gonna make a pure villain your protagonist, you better at least start them off good (so the audience sees why and might sympathize with why she became evil) or give her some kind of humanizing redemption arc.

My gf and I were loving it midway through, but that third act was so awful that we fast-forwarded through the last 15 minutes just to get through it.

Marla was portrayed as a sinister sociopath who gleefully preys on the most vulnerable people in society, and that portrayal was never shifted or softened. She was the most evil person in the movie *throughout the whole movie*. She even admitted to the Russian mafia boss that she was upset at them because they played by a different set of rules, heavily implying that she would also murder people if she needed to, though she simply didn't need to because she manipulated the legal system to get her way while keeping her hands and image clean. She also admitted that she wanted money so she could use it as a tool.

Her character is pretty one-note, and honestly that's an acceptable way to write your villain, but not your protagonist who the audience is (presumably) supposed to get behind.

The first half of the movie made me think the old lady who was being preyed upon would outsmart Marla - the manipulative villain would get her comeuppance. Instead, the old lady plotline was unceremoniously dumped an hour into the movie, and Marla became some ninja superhero who took out a Russian mob boss and his associates.

Rarely do I feel like ranting against a movie, but this was such messy trash that I couldn't help it.

And no, the last 30 seconds of the movie don't redeem anything. She won.

Is Witcher 3 considered open world? If so, those are probably the only two modern open-world games I've played, and BotW was far better in terms of traversal, controls, combat, and variety of locations. It was also far less glitchy, which I imagine is tough to pull off in an open world game.

This might be an absurd request, but can anyone find a video where a cook actually demonstrates the "rest your steak" theory by cutting into a steak as soon as it's off the grill?

The conventional wisdom is that doing so would ruin the steak, as cutting a steak before it has rested and slightly cooled will result in the juices leaking out. This leaves the steak tough, dry, and undesirable. I subscribe to the theory myself (and so does seemingly everyone who talks about grilling), but I've NEVER seen anyone actually show us the fuck-up on film.

And yeah, I know that this is essentially asking a cook to film themselves ruining their own steak... but people spend tons of money creating their YouTube videos. Ruining a $30 for a video experiment that might not even exist online is a worthy investment imo.

The "named NPC" side quests are generally more interesting and assist you in building the Affinity Chart (if you're into that sort of thing). However, these are also the ones that don't auto-complete, meaning you'll need to return to that NPC after satisfying their condition(s) in order to complete the quest.

The "unnamed NPC" side quests are more generic and consist of defeating X number of monsters or obtaining X items. These can be ignored, as they do almost nothing to flesh out the game world, but they are also the quests that DO auto-complete, so they won't really be wasting your time (many will naturally complete themselves for you as you explore and battle).

IMO, you can probably ignore everything apart from the quest shine mentioned and the ones that require you to battle unique monsters, and you'd still get a great experience. Even if you ignore every single side quest, this is still a content-rich 50+ hour RPG with tons of beautiful locations, a memorable and cohesive party, and a fantastic soundtrack.

(it's good)
