I dunno if I can rightly call her mine, but I've been feeding and hanging out with a stray that hangs around the diner where I work. She was awfully skinny and ravenously hungry. Not sure what I'm gonna do when winter hits since she's still really skittish and uncomfortable around people. This is her hungry face.

I don't think that's normal. Cooks probably would make $13-$17/hr anywhere, but I don't know about $25/hr equivalent with tips for wait staff. It's pretty standard across the board for wait staff to get paid $4/hr because their employers KNOW they get by with their tip money.

$25/hr+ is including tips. I was thinking about this a while ago (envy is an ugly thing) and came up with rough estimates of average shift length, average customers/day, and average tips/customer for the current restaurant I work in and it worked out to about $28-$29/hour, with some give or take here and there depending on who has the better shifts. I don't mean to imply that my experience is universal, but I really began to question my life choices after busting my ass for 5+ years in the industry and watching some rando 20-year-old come in and make 50+% more than me despite having no earthly idea what she was doing. My experience both irl and on reddit is that there are a lot of people in similar positions who feel the same way.

That's not how it works at all. Head Chefs are making the most out of everyone in the building and Wait Staff are making like $4 an hour with tips. And sometimes the Cooks take a cut of the tip money.

It's how it works where I've worked, and I've heard similar stories of other local restaurants. Of course I've never worked in a place with tip pooling, so I can't comment on that. Just commenting on my own experience in the restaurant industry.

It's pretty demoralizing working your ass off in a kitchen making like $13/hour while the servers take in $25+ for easier work.

Whatever you do, do not get post #61 in this topic.

It's kind of a long story. Here's a summary to catch you up on CE lore.
-sktgamer's girlfriend passes away unexpectedly a while before the following incidents, and he makes a couple topics discussing his shock and sorrow
-someone posts news story of a gay man who was murdered by a college football player after pretending to be a woman on tinder
-initially it wasn't fully clear he was a gay man and not a trans woman misgendered by the article, and gunplagirl introduces the topic of trans bigotry and victimization
-sktgamer posts some reddit comment from some random purporting to have heard of the victim, claiming that he made a habit of luring underage men
-gunplagirl and sktgamer get into it, and sktgamer tosses some fuel on the fire by saying some transphobic things
-gunplagirl makes a post to the effect that since he'd recently lost someone, sktgamer should understand how she feels about trans victims
-he blows up and starts attacking her for what he perceives as a jab at his girlfriend and iirc even makes a veiled death threat before being suspended, she deletes the post to try to sweep it under the rug but gets suspended as well anyway
-much fierce debate about the incident over the next couple days, cyricz and a few others defend her while a few on the other side attack them
-sktgamer eventually comes back from suspension and starts lashing out some more at gunplagirl and the people defending her (prominently including cyricz), who after a couple weeks of it retaliates by telling him that his girlfriend would be ashamed of him
-cyricz gets warned and makes a pseudo-apology to the world at large about how he regrets stooping down to sktgamer's level
-people eventually get sick of ranting about it after a while

now if the admins don't like your new name you get banned instead

I work in a restaurant, and over the covid close-down they sent me some weird-ass non-disclosure agreement thing that I couldn't share anything I learned there. So weird, I just ignored it and it hasn't been brought up since.

I did some work for a musician named Nolan Neal, he got through on one season of The Voice and Adam was his coach. He told me he worked with him like 10 to 20 minutes a week, was always preoccupied, said stuff like to call him for anything and he tried twice and it rang once and went to voicemail.

He said the guy was very absent and uninterested in all of it and he regretted being on his team, felt like he could have done better with someone else.

He was the winner in my favorite puzzle giveaway topic. He said he could solve it if he had time, so I challenged him to a bet where if he didn't he would owe me money instead. He took the bet and I'll be damned if he didn't beat me and figure it out. Didn't really pay any attention to (or have any interest in) the other topics he's apparently known for, but I'll always remember him fondly for that. Hope he's well.
