And since about 50% of them don't need more than a high school degree, it's completely possible and even preferable to not settle for some crappy ass job for the rest of your life. |

You just have to follow a few basic steps. 1. Reduce your costs. If there's something you're paying for that you can live without, or can find a cheaper version of, then don't pay it. It wasn't that long ago when nobody had smart phones, internet, Hulu, or cable, but now no one seems to want to live without them. 2. Get a better job. The less money you make, the more your income can increase if you look for opportunities long enough. 3. Reduce your withholding. You can do this on your W-4 by calculating the amount that you overpay to the IRS each year on your federal income tax (or state income tax if you wish), which is your money that the government holds interest free for over a year. 4. Save 10% of your income, preferably in a high interest savings account. Whatever money you make, try to figure out how you would survive with only 90% of that much. There are online banks that give you 1.5% compounding interest with no fees. Your employer may allow you to add a second bank to direct deposit an amount of money so you never have to worry about it. This is just a start. Being poor is a tale as old as civilization but the way out is always the same. |
