I always had the impression that the majority of dedicated gamers' first time playing a game (at least from what I've seen in boards) was only with the current-year ones, and that any older games they played throughout that year were already games they'd beaten or played in the past.

Nice to be proven wrong!

I'm serious! Why was Tales of the Rays so ignored after its release when it was the only extremely hyped and advertized game in the franchise (AND considering it was a crossover of many protagonists)?!

Was it cancelled or something?

That just sounds to me like you've played the easy ones.

Nope. That isn't a valid argument in this case.

Believe me, I've played nearly all of the Classicvanias (the ones pre-SotN), and the difficulty doesn't make it "scarier" or anything. In fact, it only makes it more frustrating/annoying if it goes off the charts, just like any other game.

As far as modern ones, I've also played Curse of Darkness on Crazy mode and it's pretty much the same thing (save for the "frustrating" part, since that game's combat system is one of the best implemented in any game ever).

Amazing topic. The amount of divisive points of view really met my expectations.

As for myself (being someone who absolutely hates horror, scary things, gore, grotesque sights, and unsettling stuff), I absolutely love Castlevania as an action-adventure, fantasy game franchise.

The level of artistry achieved by the aesthetics, musicalization, and animations is just beautiful. The way the enemies get destroyed is quite artistic as well. It manages to give you the opposite feeling of fear and uncertainty, since you actually feel like a land-cleansing hero that no monster can stand against. It's outstanding. I'd go as far as to say that it's practically an anti-horror game franchise in the sense that it constantly shows you how good always triumphs over evil.

I mean, we're talking about the same Cloud that lost to freaking Squirtle 5 years prior.

Relatively speaking (in terms of current votals), not even the strongest Link of any era could beat another Draven-like menace of that magnitude.

Look at the history of this poll:

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/poll/8124-why-are-you-visiting-gamefaqs-today

The percentage for I'm just here for the poll has been consistently increasing by big chunks over time, meaning that people (at least poll voters) have been losing interest in everything else.

At the same time, though, people who are into videogames but don't use GameFAQs, they DO fully recognize the site for various reasons, mainly contests, boards, and guides for old games.

Maybe unsurprisingly, I've come across people who weren't actually aware the site still existed and keeps going to this day, but they still have interest in it because they mainly associate the site with retro games (which is ironically the lesser relevant part of the site in terms of traffic compared to newer games, despite being the actual main interest in social boards like this one), so they're actually willing to get back to it.

tl;dr: GameFAQs regulars are probably losing interest due to monotony, but the right publicity could bring people back and gather more interest, therefore injecting liveliness into a small community.

Jin Sakai (Ghost of Tsushima)
Ichiban Kasuga (Yakuza: Like a Dragon)
Zagreus (Hades)
Ryunosuke Naruhodo (The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles)
Omori (Omori)
Steve (Minecraft)
Pyra (Xenoblade Chronicles 2)
Juro Kurabe (13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim)
Doomslayer (Doom)
Sekiro (Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice)
Stella (Spiritfarer)
Jesse Faden (Control)
Yuito Sumeragi (Scarlet Nexus)

Some due to a popular game, some due to the game being popular on Board 8, and some due to Smash Bros.

EDIT: K. Rool has been removed because I forgot he got in the last contest.

There have only been like 2 well-received video game movies (Werewolves Within & Detention) but there have been several more well-received or even critically acclaimed movie-based video games (Goldeneye, Sweet Home, X-Men Origins Wolverine, Spider-Man 2, The Punisher '05, Alien series games). It a question of sheer numbers though as there have been far more movie video games made than vice versa.

I always thought the only pretty-well-received movie was Advent Children. Never heard of the ones mentioned.

When you jump from animation to live action there's just so much that doesn't come across the same. You just can't depict things the exact same way, even if you try it'll come across differently. CG can look pretty bad if its not done right. Is Luffy going to blow up like a balloon? Even something like just punching very fast can look dumb af in live action.

That's a good point, but I still think they can work around some of those details if they're creative enough, like how they made Scott Pilgrim vs. The World an extraordinary live-action adaptation by not taking itself too seriously while simultaneously adding lots of stylish details.

And I'm talking about a MUCH more complex adaptation there. Like Safer said with the RE movie, they have one very simple job by choosing the right cast and respecting the game canons and they can't even do that right.

I actually haven't. Not after the initial backlash regarding the horrible design, which was later (thankfully) redone, Jim Carrey starring as Eggman, and the guy from the movie Hop being his companion. I could be stuck with a false perception, though.

But hey, talking about that, I'm thoroughly convinced the initial design was a planned self-bad-advertisement so it could gather attention once the redesign was done, but surprisingly few people believe that.

What's usually more decent?

Not really counting awesome movies like Wreck-It Ralph or Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, since they are original stories directly contemplated for a film (and the latter is also based on a comic book, anyway). Also not counting awesome games like 007: Nightfire.

I'd go with movie-based videogames. I've played a good chunk that I've enjoyed a lot, like Spider-Man 2 and Harry Potter 1 & 3, and I've yet to see an inverted Goldeneye-esque case (though that's from an outsider's perspective). It also doesn't quite help that the best movie I've seen is Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

Do you consider it feminine?

So purple has been my favorite color since forever, and I've been secretly wanting to find a purple shirt for years to add to my wardrobe.

BUT, my brother recently told an aquaintance that if he saw a guy wearing purple, he would genuinely wonder if that guy was gay, since he considered it a girly color. My mom also somewhat agreed with that statement.

I was naturally shocked, since I've never seen purple "feminine"... ever. Only pink. I'd maybe argue for a few colors, like yellow, or pastel colors like salmon, teal... but that's probably it (and I'm not even sure).

What's your take on the matter?

O...kay...

Let me see if I get it:

-He's the second most important character in the story.
-He's the "leading man".
-He's British Han Solo.
-He's the hottest of the group, despite looking like Billy Idol.
-His dad's superior in every way.
-He is a furry.

Well, it sure sounds confusing, but let's see:

Getting rid of the things that definitely do not apply those being: my dad (they don't know him), having a furry best friend/being a furry, being British, and looking like Billy Idol, we get a leading-man, hopefully-good-looking Han Solo with relative importance to some people's own stories, correct?

According to Star Wars, Han Solo is a cocky bounty hunter that shoots laser guns and is pretty popular among the fanbase. Granted, a guy like that would probably not be so likeable if treated directly, but still admired if seen from afar. He also doesn't care what others say. Hmm... It sounds to me like an I think Halo is a pretty cool guy. he shoots aliens and doesn't afraid of anything kind of situation.

...But if he's the "leading man", does that mean people see him as a role model? Or as the guy who knows da wae?
