| Advokaiser 08/07/21 1:10:47 AM #483 | Well, the Pokmon games for each Gen get all crammed up into one, despite there being a vast difference in reception between R/S vs. Emerald, D/P vs. Platinum, etc., with the latter being considered vast improvements. That's why HG/SS came to be so powerful on their own. Having every iteration of SFII as separate entities would be pretty chaotic, since the first 3 or 4 original games weren't the only ones released there's a 10th Anniversary Edition, a Remix (with changed modern aesthetics but same gameplay), Hyper Turbo (with Evil Ryu and Violent Ken)... You could argue having Super Turbo (probably the best possible version in a contest setting) would make it a guaranteed win, but it's an extremely specific version that would probably cause abstentionism. Having it just as "Street Fighter II" seems like the best bet to draw the votes for the people who played the rest of the versions. I mean, I bet Street Fighter IV would certainly have an overall stronger performance in another contest than 11 years ago, simply because condensing it as "Street Fighter IV" would probably draw votes for the 7 or so upgraded versions released throughout the years. --- azuarc - Good friend, VGM lover, Guru Champion. Also, Mario Party fans are very divided regarding which one's the best, so I could see the weight of them being distributed pretty evenly among the 12 (or so) titles that have been released. I mean, it could win by representative name alone, but if we put Pokmon Stadium in here instead, Stadium wins by a large margin. -Super Mario RPG may actually be a Top 6 SNES game (CT > ALttP > FFVI > SMW > Super Metroid > SMRPG), and that's not a small thing. -Link's Awakening could definitely beat a handful of midcarders, but no way it reaches FFVI's strength. -Ooph!... Tough one, but I think FFVIII's strength has dropped enough to give Goldeneye the edge here. (Speaking of which, I know there's some hierarchy regarding FF titles, but I wouldn't rule out IX actually surpassing VIII in a 1v1 match nowadays. Ironically, I don't see FFIX winning against Goldeneye, but I could be wrong.) -Sonic 3&K > Sonic 2 > FFV >= Sonic 1 > Sonic Adventure would be my guess. -Both Crash 2 and 3 could take on any classic Tomb Raider. If it was Crash 1, it could be a little more debatable, though I'd still give the edge to Crash. I can only see Tomb Raider (1 or 2) beating Spyro 2 and 3, but not 1. -Parasite Eve may be pretty weak (and nobody cared about The 3rd Birthday), but classic PS1 Square game vs. tecnically-not-the-strongest sports game on the site, sounds more in favor of the former. -Panzer Dragoon wins by a mile. I'd even take SaGa Frontier to beat Madden 98. I don't remember when Tecmo Super Bowl got released, but that would be a somewhat better match. (If we really need a sports game in, though, it would be awesome to see International Superstar Soccer Deluxe in there.) -Silent Hill may not be Resident Evil kind of strong (though Silent Hill 2 vs. RE1 would be an interesting match), but it's still iconic enough to beat Gran Turismo 1 or 2. Lastly, around half of them are individual, while the other half is comprised by teams of 2, 3, 4, sometimes 6, a few of them 7/8, and lastly a few big teams of around 11. Ooph... My family and I used to joke a lot about that exact same thing TV coverage is usually so poor that they just show beach volleyball whenever there aren't huge events taking place live (Swimming, Athletics, Gimnastics, Diving, etc.). And the worst thing is that they are often plain replays. Maybe it's just a fairly attractive sport that doesn't cost as much money as other events, idk. It hasn't been an issue anymore for us, though, since we've all been watching multiple disciplines live through a YouTube channel called Marca Claro. It has covered pretty much every event live (except for Skeet and Shooting... but oh well). This partially comes down to them being the least preoccupied on the matter (mainly by being sold to the idea that Covid only really affects the elderly), and that places like nightclubs have been open for some months now and without any kind of restrictions. They're also the ones who travel most to the beach, etc. In fact, ever since the first panic state of "brace yourselves... the deadly coronavirus from China is coming" was over, people gradually started doing their normal activities like nothing happened, and the population's confidence has only gone higher by being vaccinated. The only thing I see is everyone's still using facemasks, but that's about it. LinkMarioSamus posted... 2009 was the year where 16-bit and earlier era games kind of sucked in general. I don't deny that Super Metroid wasn't that strong in 2009, but that honestly might have been Metroid's contest nadir as a franchise. In less than two years Metroid Prime went from losing to a GTA game to giving Fallout 3 fits and has never looked back since. I would totally take Metroid Prime over any Bethesda game in a contest now. I'd say Metroid Prime's most impressive showing is either against 2010 Half-Life 2, or against 2015 Skyrim.
